High Spirits Collection Diamond (Port Mourant) Demerara Rum 2001
Wet wood, varnish, black tea and roasted coffee — this is Port Mourant showing its classic markers, with green apple and pear fruit and a briny, herbal edge underneath. At 47.7% it drinks softer than most PM, which several tasters found dangerously easy but a touch thin for 20 years. A few even caught a whisky-like malty side. Balanced over deep, not a complexity bomb.

How does High Spirits Collection Diamond (Port Mourant) Demerara Rum 2001 taste?
Aggregated from 30 community reviews.
Classic Port Mourant, softer and easy-drinking Well-liked as a textbook, balanced Port Mourant — wood, herbs, coffee and fruit all present. The recurring gripe: the lower ABV makes it a little thin and easy rather than powerful.

PM banger! Exactly what you'd expect from PM: Woody, rusty aromas meet herbs that were somehow too close to the chemical factory! While there is a lot of menthol on the nose, the palate reveals a chemical saltiness that almost has a Fiji flair with a certain fruitiness. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that this is Demerara, and indeed Port Mourant, in the glass! Only the rather low ABV is a slight drawback, otherwise this would be an absolute winner!

A great full-bodied (though low) excellently balanced rum. On the nose fruity, balsamic (resins, conifers), woody and a light note of citrus. On the palate initially the balsamic and fruity part is felt to later leave the scene to a balanced roastiness and coffee that accompanies us to the finish with woody and lychee notes. An interesting rum for those who love the balance of aromas. The low alcohol content in this case is not very noticeable a sign of a well managed abv.At the price of 150 euros it seems to me a good deal. By looking it is still possible to find very good rums without the shadow of speculation, as unfortunately happens on many Velier bottlings (also of dubious quality) that when they come out are already sold out or at inadequate prices because they are sold in parallel to a host of collectors (see Papalin arrived in not even a week at twice the price).

All in all, a very exciting bottling. It has everything you would expect. The typical markers of a PM are clear to smell and taste. I was a little skeptical at first because of the low ABV that it tastes very thin, but that makes it very drinkable. It's not a complexity bomb, but for me personally it's still very successful.

04-05.11.2022 Den Danske Rom & Whiskyfestival 2022. Another return to this big event where many people go to get drunk. Once again we had a special event for a select set of people. Notes. A very nice Port Mourant. Well balanced and fruity with some varnish and menthol notes. The palate is oily and the finish long with a light smoky note.

Nice and typical profile of Port Mourant. Lower abv is very suitable because continental aged PM with high abv could be very pungent. This is not the case so good job. Anyway it lacks deep complexity and its hard to believe it has 20y

Very interesting sweet-fruity nose with an association to light, non-smoky whisky, also Williams pear. The alcohol is barely perceptible. On the palate again an association with mild whisky. Well balanced spice and barrel notes, not very fruity. The finish seems to me to be less nuanced, mainly spice and cask. Good rum and very suitable for getting to know the style of Port Mourant.

This one tastes almost like a typical Highland Whisky, maybe with a short rum finish. There is barley, vanilla, some pears and wood in the nose and on the palate. The finish adds some herbal notes with hints of honey after a while.

An der Nase grüne Früchte (Apfel, Birne), Oliven, kräutrige Noten. Am Gaumen zunächst sehr mild, wegen des niedrigen ABV, dann kommen würzige Noten, Fass, Salzlake und Schwarztee. Alles was ein PM braucht, gefällt mir richtig gut!

Famózní PM vůně. Dřevo, mýdlo, ovoce a whisky. Chuťově taky vynikající. Poměrně dost ovocné, plno technických tónů. Hřejivý závěr. Vynikající přístupná a dobře vyzrálá Guyana. Jediný nedostatek je, že toho nemám celou láhev.

Nice PM, fruity, some wood, lots of roasted substances and coffee notes (especially in the finish). Appears elegant and solidly matured, quite low ABV does not disturb, nice and thick and creamy in the mouth, no youthful disturbing fires -

Nice PM with the classic notes!
