Overripe banana, glue and buttery caramel, with an earthy, almost mushroom-like edge and a whiff of sugarcane. This cask-strength MHOBA leans funky and fruity with creamy fudge and chocolate underneath. And finally a delicious Mhoba. Overripe fruits on the nose, especially banana, as well as some vanilla. On the palate, the overripe fruits remain, ester is also noticeable, plus vanilla and caramel.

Fruit meets buttery caramel. Pleasant, still youthful-fresh rum, but by no means lacking in expressiveness. A bit more maturity as a counterpoint to heavy aromas from the cask could be exciting, but even so the overall package is quite appealing.

A young rum bottled in partnership with the 1802 bar. The nose reveals the typical notes of Mhoba, the earthy side with mushrooms on the verge of decomposition, vegetal notes, ripe banana, sugar cane typical of the terroir, without forgetting the woody, vanilla and spicy notes that bring balance to these very divisive flavors.On the palate, we find a controlled attack despite the degrees on the meter, with rubbery notes, a medicinal side with esters, a beautiful basket of ripe fruits and woody and spicy notes. The whole is dry but very approachable. The finish is of medium length and reminiscent of tropical fruits, esters, spices and wood, with a hint of leather to complement.A rum that looks good for its relatively low age count. Even if it is rather linear and lacks depth, aging and complexity, it remains an appreciable rum to discover new horizons. The quality / price ratio is nevertheless questionable.

First of all, the Mhoba that is always so highly praised or well rated, I didn't find so good. Strangely enough, I like this bottling more. In my opinion, it is too undervalued or I just have a strange taste ;-)

#4619 17.02.2024 Relaxing with a few rums after training on my bike after a longer break. Thanks to Roberto for the samples. Nose Intense, fruity, vegetal, light roasted wood, light sugarcane, faint smoke. Palate Intense, light roasted wood, fruity, ester, light caramel, sugarcane, light vegetal, faint rubber. Finish Intense, long and warm, banana, roasted wood, ester. A really nice rum at a good price tag. Draws really nice curtains in the glass. The empty glass has some medicinal and faint leather notes.

Mhoba enjoyment with a wonderful Alpine panorama. Nose: unmistakable, its own Mhoba style. Esters with lots of fermented fruit, spicy and vegetal. Banana, papaya, and some sour cherry, plus a nice honey sweetness. The brandy cask is unmistakable but also leans towards sweet wine, like Madeira. Also, I find herbs, saffron, chamomile, and fennel. Very pleasant nose. 8.5 Palate: a lot going on here too. Esters and fermented notes. Slightly bitter with orange peel, but again banana and papaya with honey sweetness. Now many more herbs and vegetables come forward. Chamomile, hay, saffron, and some mint. Great Mhoba! 8.5

Small "Mhoba" cross-tasting 2025: Less expressive and intense on the nose than the Ingwe. But stronger and more intense on the palate. Unlike the Ingwe, but in my opinion not worse. For me, quite underrated.

Really earthy nose, with mushrooms in the spotlight, some fruitiness from the cask and the usual combo of glue and vanilla/caramel plus some young wood and alcool. Interesting but not great, and this is confirmed drinking: the brandy cask is noticeable but it did not mitigate the sharpness of alcool despite the smoothness.

Interesting variant of the Mhoba profile, the fruits and esters are not quite as pronounced, but there is a gasoline note that gives the whole a twist. Not optimal alcohol integration and a somewhat uninspired finish count negatively, but overall still a nice rum.

Ochre yellow to brown Smell: At first immediately funky and sweet, fruity with lots of esters. Tons of overripe fermented fruit, slightly sour. Also aromas of sugarcane. I find this very tasty. Taste: Sweet and fruity in the mouth, slightly sour. When swallowing intense and strong, fruity and spicy-alcoholic. Creamy with fudge, toffee and milk chocolate. Finish: Medium length Spicy toffee, still fruity. Conclusion: For my taste a first-class powerful rum, especially due to the unusual combination of high ester with creaminess and chocolate.
