The Foursquare that doesn't taste like a Foursquare — that's the running theme here. The nose is the highlight: fruity and pastry-like, apricot, mandarin and vanilla, with a medicinal, almost cough-syrup edge that surprises people. The palate turns dry and woody, spicy and a touch salty, and most tasters find it thins out and falls a little flat. At 47.6% it drinks easy, but the finish stays short.

Overall not a typical Foursquare in my opinion with its funkiness and medicinal tastes. The nose is fruity and medicinal with notes of wood, vanilla and apricot. At the palate it’s funky, medicinal, fruity and spicy with notes of rubber, vanilla and salt.

The nose is classic for a Foursquare. Coconut, mandarin and apricot, as well as a honey sweetness. The palate is however too light and the aromas do not come out clearly, the finish is short and unspectacular! I like the nose best! A very good entry-level rum for Foursquare

Love the online tasting with Angus and the other RumX participants. This is a very easy drinkable Barbados rum. Very smooth, almost silky on the palate with some fruit and spices. The empty glass is really nice and reveals some chocolate and raisin. Love the funny label they chose 😊

A rum with an atypical profile. The nose is surprisingly medicinal, especially for a Foursquare. Then the pastry and sweet notes take over, followed by fruits (coconut, apricot, dried fruits), mild spices, chocolate, and nuts (walnut, hazelnut). The nose is slightly shy but differs from the distillery's classic profile. On the palate, the attack is quite bland and unbalanced. The bitterness and dilution do not allow the flavors to express themselves. While the medicinal note is still there, there is also a slightly disturbing alcoholic touch on the palate. The fruits, chocolate, and a hint of saltiness save this bottling. The finish is short, slightly harsh and astringent, lacking character and longevity. Cocoa, coffee, spices, woodiness, and roasted notes become more dominant, still with a medicinal form and some scattered fruits. A profile that stood out but whose potential unfortunately faded during the tasting.

A rum tasted online with Angus MacRaild. A fairly light color. A very fruity and pastry-like nose, rather sweet. With a bit of varnished wood. On the palate, the attack is on relative sweetness and balanced flavors. A rum with great drinkability. The finish is on spices and fine wood. The empty glass has very pastry-like sides. A very nice experience.

Great combination of fruity and herbal associations. Almost a bit medicinal. The typical Foursquare coconut note is rather discreet in the background. Quite dry and spicy on the palate. Very pleasant drinking strength.After 30 minutes in the air, a great complexity unfolds.

Phew... Foursquare is often criticized as not very complex and too consistent. Also by me often. Now here is one that is different. Hmm... but somehow it wasn't really my thing. Quite exhausting. Would never have guessed Barbados blind and checked twice during the tasting if I hadn't accidentally got the Clarendon in the glass 😂 Interesting yes, also very good, but for me not a feel good rum.

Very relaxed Foursquare with notes of citrus fruits! Everything else is there too: Fruitiness, spice, wood and notes of dark chocolate. I like it very much!

Good rum overall, but nothing more. The nose is really nice, very pastry-like. And it's a little different from the classic foursquare profile. On the palate, unfortunately, it's a little more disappointing. I found it less complex, not very long on the palate.

Weak Foursquare. Unfortunately a bit medicinal and flat. The coconut notes could be more intense. Slightly watered down. I've had better. Overall unfortunately unharmonious. So no drinking recommendation from me.

Wow, super tasty Foursquare nose with very high fruit content such as apple and apricot. Chocolaty, spicy, roasty on the palate, with a relatively sharp sensation despite <50%. A dominant vanilla note remains. Never had such an old Foursquare in my glass! Delicious and well-rounded rum!

Rum Sponge - RumX live tasting, and on my birthday, nice 😊 Nose: despite only 47% it's nicely intense, fruity, sweet lemon with mandarin and unobtrusive coconut. Now a slight medicinal note comes in. Light marzipan and then cream toffee and caramel. Clearly smoky at the end. I like it. 8.5 Palate: Unlike the nose, hardly any fruit, clearly woody, bitter and salty-peppery. Only then come marzipan and lemon peel. Feels slightly bacon-y, medicinal with a hint of cardamom. Unfortunately a bit thin at the start, but towards the end the high age and deep maturity benefit it with a nice aroma stability. 8.1

A nice old Foursquare that gives a very fruity nose. I like it here super much at first. On the palate, a bit too thin for me but still a drop you could pour yourself anytime without hesitation 😋

Despite a very sexy datasheet, this rum is a bit too flat. Alcohol integration is quite poor on the palate. A pitty for such round profile. Rum Sponge is used to release much better bottlings.

Tasted as part of the April Lottery Tasting: After the first sniff, I had to smell the bottle again to make sure I really had the right rum in the glass 😁 I couldn't detect the typical FS coconut note at all, but rather a medicinal touch. For me, a very untypical Foursquare that unfortunately doesn't suit my taste.

Quite surprising for a Foursquare, corresponds only partially to the usual profile. Despite the long aging still with an amazingly fresh profile, fruits dominate on the nose, medical notes and subtle wood hints. On the palate, the age is more noticeable, slightly bitter cask influences join delicate sweetness and again a clear fruity freshness that almost comes across a bit bold. Overall very pleasant to drink and a very exciting addition to the spectrum of many Foursquares – definitely a somewhat more independent profile of the distillery.

Tried during the April Lottery RumX Tasting with Angus from Rum Sponge: Nice fruity-sweet nose that reminds me more of Belize than Barbados. On the palate, drier than expected, with plenty of wood but not too dominant and probably appropriate or even surprisingly little for 22 years in the cask. It stays long in the mouth and lingers, somewhat reminiscent of dried fruits. I would almost say Easy Sipper due to the comparatively low ABV. A nice and light start to the tasting!

Great impression on this FS. To the usual markers is added a woodiness which, mixed with fruits and vanilla, gives a superb impression. A good example for me that it's not necessary to be at 60° to have things to say.

Easy sipping FS, very fruity profile that lacks some of the more typical coconut notes. Well intefrated wood, wouldn’t have guessed the age. Great starting dram for the evening!

At first i had an impression of a Guyanese rum, with heavy herbs and some wood notes. After a while in the nose I get red fruit. On palette it's quite spicy at first, then it calms down and gets more herbal and salty. Overall profile not my favorite.
