The palate is rich and powerful at 63%, mixing that dirty tar-and-rubber core with pepper, herbal notes and a citrus-menthol finish that goes on forever. A continentally-aged HTR that a few felt could be even dirtier, but nobody argued it wasn't good.

This one was a nice surprise, at least for me. A more heavy one than the others and also much better in all regards. The nose is typical Caroni, intense with all the tar, rubber and polish with a tad of menthol. In the back i find banana and cinnamon. The palate can really deliver on the nose. Again tar and rubber are there mixed with menthol. Fruitier than the nose with herbal and grassy notes. Nice and warm with pepper. The finish is forever with citrus, menthol enveloped by smoky wood.

Cross-tasting 1997 Caronis from continental storage: Nice HTR profile, deep aromatic, nice profile - very pleasant, round, downright quaffable. I like it quite a bit.

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing rum at the height of its fame, which was added in a ratio of 1:10 to naval blends. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000 the distillery ended production and was closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die." I recommend it, Caroni is really a unique rum.

This thing is really something! You rarely find a continental matured Caroni as puristic and intense as this. I've had it in the house bar for a while now and I'm glad that I still have a bottle or two in the cellar. I find it similar in taste to the Velier 12y, just with a real bang %.

First Caroni. Nose: OK, that's typical Trinidad. Lot of mint & menthol. Tar, resin, rubber, baked apples, tobacco, leather, cinnamon, mace, cigars. Some of pencil shaving. Wished more chemical maybe, but it's still amazing. Taste. Rich & powerful. Maybe, need some water. Baked apples, resin, tar, menthol, polish, leather, mint tobacco, again this pencil carbon. Maybes ome roots. Salty, mint, cardamon. Aftertaste: long, dirty, saty, minty. Baked apple, leather, tobacco, cardamon, rubber & hint of back tea. Conclusion: great, ballanced & very interesting. Typical to Trinidad, but I wish more dirty aromas, because legends about Caroni, be ahead of this rum )) Tasteful !

Nose: slightly rancid meat, very alcoholic all the same, but fades relatively quickly once opened. smoky. Palate: a little alcoholic bite, still strong, alcohol integration not excellent. On the other hand, nice ripe fruit. Light citrus. Length: very nice, nice persistence and very long chew on the Caronian notes we like, this rum is sublime, the fruit comes back afterwards at the very end. very good
