South Pacific Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 33 FSDP 2009
More than one taster reaches for Hampden when this first hits the nose — glue, varnish and overripe banana, but the Fiji version, brighter and more citrus-driven. Lime peel, tropical fruit and young oak sit over an oily, workshop-like base, with smoke building as it sits. At 60.4% the alcohol is mostly well integrated, though a few drops of water tame the heat and let the fruit through.
The community says- Bright citrus fruit
- Estery workshop nose
- Keep in mind: Hot without water

This is a good daily sipper! Classic Fiji from start to finish. Nose: Fruity, estery, lighz wood Palate: Anise, cocoa Finish: Medium long, vegetally, woody The 60,4% are integrated so well…. Unfortunately, he couldn't fully convince me.

Cedar wood on the nose, alcohol and spices. A slightly lean nose. On the palate, it's all the same. The cedar not only dominates, but also dries out the mouth. The finish is rather short, dominated by wood. A rum that gives an impression of dryness and lacks amplitude.

First impression at the HanseSpirit:Fulfills exactly the expectations I had and whose fulfillment I had hoped.Fruity, oily, pleasant workshop aromas...Nachtasting follows. So, and now again in peace at home:Nose: totally pleasant, spicy-fruity, with this special oily texture, which together with pencil shavings and some varnish or glue reminiscent of the fumes from a precision engineering workshop. Interesting also an intense yogurt note that underscores the subtle fruity sweetness. In fruit here gooseberry with lime together with canola honey. The over 60% is very well integrated here. 86Palate: initially that oily, artificial attack again, slightly salty-bitter, with pencil mien. Slightly resinous and something like polish to it. The fruit is again reminiscent of gooseberry, this time with lime zest. Also, the yogurt note comes through clearly again. I really like it. 84Must correct the rating from yesterday significantly upwards. Now 85 instead of 80. Very nice Fiji profile!

Solid Fiji with tart Hampden notes in the nose.In the mouth then as usual with RC very strong and much %%.In direct comparison to Tast'Toe Fiji 2009 very smoky. Give him thereby one point less in comparison.Good PLV!

Unfortunately not my cup of tea. I know much better Fiji bottlings. Too tart and bitter for me. However, the alcohol is very well integrated... After another cross tasting with the TRC 15yo and LMDW Fiji, this Fiji is in third place. It tastes too spicy to me and unfortunately doesn't have the good dirty Fiji notes
Review by TheRhumhoe
Spirit of Rum has selected a Fijian rum that's ready for a fight. The nose is complete, with phenolic aromas (esters, glue, varnish), lots of fruit (very ripe pineapple and banana), some pastry notes, spices and a light woodiness. The surprise comes from the notes of freshness, accompanied by citrus (lime), which contrast with the roasted, smoky notes that develop after aeration. Perhaps not the deepest nose, but a fine profile that broadens the aromatic spectrum. The attack on the palate is lively, mixing fruity flavors (exotic fruit, citrus), spices (vanilla, pepper, chili), young oak, medicinal notes (esters, glue, polish) and more herbaceous, vegetal aromas. A strange paradox emerges: while the profile has a certain sweetness on the palate, the alcohol is particularly strong and biting, spoiling the pleasure in fine. The profile loses its superbness and becomes blander. The finish is of good quality, with spicy, smoky notes lingering on the palate, along with some vegetal, earthy and mineral elements. The profile is warm, bitter, medicinal but still fruity over the length. A rum with potential, but a little lacking in depth of flavor and unbalanced with too much persistent alcohol, a shame.

Nose: when first perceived spontaneously came to mind "Hampden essence", after longer breathing it became a little more relaxed and aromas of tobacco and freshness joinedAt the palate it spreads creamy and intense. Acidic fruit, wood, resinous spice and something artificial I perceive! Very tasty. In the finish this flavor continues in a lighter form!A good Fiji
Review by mto75
On the nose quite ester-heavy, next to citrus, candied. On the palate spicy, decent acidity. Solid, like other Fiji from 2009, but he can not really inspire me somehow, just one holds against how much more Fiji is capable of (such as with the IdR 2001).

#4111 This was a very nice surprise and I think that the price to quality is very good. Fresh and fruity with some esters and glue notes. There is a lovely smoky note on the nose once it's been rested for a good while. The palate is dry and warm with nice fruits and medicinal notes. The empty glass reveals some iodine and dried fruit.
Review by Johannes
Typical, very good Fiji profile!
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Personally, a little too bitter and smoky burnt and in the finish strangely herbal and vinegary lastig... I'm not quite warm with but still a solid fiji. Alcohol well integrated but that's it... overall, I've had much better fijis...

Fiji tasting with DomM We had quite a few rums from Fiji in the glass that evening. Unfortunately, although this one is not bad at its core, it couldn't quite keep up with the others. The other bottlings we had in the glass convinced me more.

Nice Fiji, definitely pleasing.

Good Fiji .... Alcohol initially a little bitchy .In the nose citrus notes, yogurt and floral notes .On the palate very similar to the nose .... slightly bitter in the finish. Quite soide but no revelation for me personally what rum from Fiji.

Only tasted at the fair, so to be enjoyed with caution. Fiji is not necessarily my preferred profile, but tasty I find him definitely. As expected, a nice fruitiness with a candied sweetness. Acidity is also felt throughout here, in the mouth spicy notes also come through more strongly, as well as something almost peaty.Good Fiji representative, but I think to have had better in the glass. For a really fair assessment, I would have to taste him but again in peace at home. To take a bottle but he would have to inspire me even more.

Pleasant Fiji rum with an exciting profile! Unlike some other bottlings from the island state, less acidity, but still the distinctive artificial-plastic-like profile of fermented fruits. Plus a vegetal note reminiscent of cucumber and for me associations of a delicious vegetarian dish on the sandy beach in Fiji. Somehow Fiji always catches me again and this bottling also brings me joy!
Review by DomM
Very enjoyable. Sweet and fruity. Not enough complexity to push it into the 80ish category, however.
Review by Boletus
Delicious Fiji rum, which in my opinion needs a few drops of water to tame it, then develops a fine creaminess and convinces with a nice mix of citrusy sour fruits, roasted-burnt oak and fresh rubber pieces.
Review by Serge
I like it well. Spicy, fruity & buttery. With elements of Guyana (Pot) and Jamaica. The rum accompanied me over the last days as a sniff test while my post-Covid sense of smell returns. We’re buddies now 😂
Review by Wernie
Another nose rum;-), nice citrus fruits, fresh, young wood, all other aromas slightly in the background - I like it. The palate can't keep up, it's too rough, too unrounded, somehow also too thin for me. The citrus fruits come back but with too much acidity, lots of wood and polish. The finish then quite bitter, with wood, peat and tobacco. Overall, I hoped for more.
Review by Mentalo
Solid representative from Fiji. Relatively high acidity, citrus notes and slight smoky note. Alcohol is well integrated. It’s not bad, but just doesn’t reach the quality of the 2001 vintage.
Review by Christian Rudt
Nose and glue, Fiji is not far off. Very clear here as well, this one is well liked. Nice and round. On the palate spicier and slightly sour. Quite intense. Alcohol initially well integrated but then clearly noticeable sharpness. With a slightly bitter finish. For me on a level with The Duchess Fiji but just a very different profile.

Got it today and I just couldn't wait. Since it's my first Fiji, I unfortunately have no comparison. I find it nicely fruity and oily. In the background, there are subtle workshop notes. However, not unpleasant. For me, it could be a bit rounder. But still a good rum.
Review by Alexander Rasch
A similar progression as with the Long Pond yesterday but more intense and complex. Nose nicely fruity with ester notes and surprisingly dry and spicy on the palate. All very intense. I will do a big Fiji tasting soon and am curious how it compares to my favorites from The Nectar 2009 and Artesanal 2001.

Had to correct me "up", it takes a few "minutes". Very tasty!
Review by Lot-NAS
I don’t really like the nose with its overripe fruits, dry cardboard but not to a „funky“ extend. The Esters seem to be artificial and not integrated very well. Nevertheless on the palate it works pretty good.
Review by SirG
I really like the spicy ester, at the beginning it feels like to open a Hampden. A good dried fruit taste comes in front accompanied by a spicy cacao and vanilla, caramel note. The high alcohol % is amazingly hidden in the full aroma, definetly love it in cask strength but I can recommend to use some drops of water to smooth out the taste and discover a second face of this rum. In the mouth you discover the spiceness that stays a bit and transforms it self in a woody caramelized, slightly fruity experience with a strong ending of a tonca bean. I have to admit my first fiji I kept in mind
Review by Nivius
Today at the tasting, the first thing that jumped straight to my taste buds was this intense Tahiti vanilla flavor, then a minty eucalyptus note joins in, which is also very present in the finish, and something also strongly reminds me of Agricole - this thing is just awesome - I’ve never had a rum in the glass that has so many different faces from dirty to floral and with a bit of water you can even taste wheat beer! The only weak point this rum has for me is that it could be a bit rounder. I’m really blown away by this one :3

Very mild and pleasing. It just lacks the edges and corners to rank higher.
Review by Pavel Ungr, RumRock
Vintage 2009. I rate it 7.6 out of 10, a solid rum that does not disappoint.
Review by Buddudharma
Interesting profile, dry, somewhat smoky, with light fruits. Not a top rum, but nice to drink.
Review by Daniel Kennste Doch
Basically a nice Fiji representative. The alcohol is very well integrated. Compared to the much cheaper Transcontinental Fiji 4 years, a more mature candidate, but rather solid and less exciting or spectacular. Easy to drink, but beyond that? You should at least try it once.
Review by Master P
Smells wonderfully fruity, slightly woody & a bit ester. Very pleasant taste for 60%. Very refreshing.
Review by Thomas Renoud
Fiji at its finest even if it could have been reduced a bit to make it more drinkable, but too alcoholic. Almond, massepain, banana, floral, not as dirty as it can be, it's beautiful and complex
