South Pacific Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 33 FSDP 2009
More than one taster reaches for Hampden when this first hits the nose — glue, varnish and overripe banana, but the Fiji version, brighter and more citrus-driven. Lime peel, tropical fruit and young oak sit over an oily, workshop-like base, with smoke building as it sits. At 60.4% the alcohol is mostly well integrated, though a few drops of water tame the heat and let the fruit through.
The community says- Bright citrus fruit

Review by TheRhumhoe
Spirit of Rum has selected a Fijian rum that's ready for a fight. The nose is complete, with phenolic aromas (esters, glue, varnish), lots of fruit (very ripe pineapple and banana), some pastry notes, spices and a light woodiness. The surprise comes from the notes of freshness, accompanied by citrus (lime), which contrast with the roasted, smoky notes that develop after aeration. Perhaps not the deepest nose, but a fine profile that broadens the aromatic spectrum. The attack on the palate is lively, mixing fruity flavors (exotic fruit, citrus), spices (vanilla, pepper, chili), young oak, medicinal notes (esters, glue, polish) and more herbaceous, vegetal aromas. A strange paradox emerges: while the profile has a certain sweetness on the palate, the alcohol is particularly strong and biting, spoiling the pleasure in fine. The profile loses its superbness and becomes blander. The finish is of good quality, with spicy, smoky notes lingering on the palate, along with some vegetal, earthy and mineral elements. The profile is warm, bitter, medicinal but still fruity over the length. A rum with potential, but a little lacking in depth of flavor and unbalanced with too much persistent alcohol, a shame.

I really like the spicy ester, at the beginning it feels like to open a Hampden. A good dried fruit taste comes in front accompanied by a spicy cacao and vanilla, caramel note. The high alcohol % is amazingly hidden in the full aroma, definetly love it in cask strength but I can recommend to use some drops of water to smooth out the taste and discover a second face of this rum. In the mouth you discover the spiceness that stays a bit and transforms it self in a woody caramelized, slightly fruity experience with a strong ending of a tonca bean. I have to admit my first fiji I kept in mind

Unfortunately not my cup of tea. I know much better Fiji bottlings. Too tart and bitter for me. However, the alcohol is very well integrated... After another cross tasting with the TRC 15yo and LMDW Fiji, this Fiji is in third place. It tastes too spicy to me and unfortunately doesn't have the good dirty Fiji notes

First impression at the HanseSpirit:Fulfills exactly the expectations I had and whose fulfillment I had hoped.Fruity, oily, pleasant workshop aromas...Nachtasting follows. So, and now again in peace at home:Nose: totally pleasant, spicy-fruity, with this special oily texture, which together with pencil shavings and some varnish or glue reminiscent of the fumes from a precision engineering workshop. Interesting also an intense yogurt note that underscores the subtle fruity sweetness. In fruit here gooseberry with lime together with canola honey. The over 60% is very well integrated here. 86Palate: initially that oily, artificial attack again, slightly salty-bitter, with pencil mien. Slightly resinous and something like polish to it. The fruit is again reminiscent of gooseberry, this time with lime zest. Also, the yogurt note comes through clearly again. I really like it. 84Must correct the rating from yesterday significantly upwards. Now 85 instead of 80. Very nice Fiji profile!

Only tasted at the fair, so to be enjoyed with caution. Fiji is not necessarily my preferred profile, but tasty I find him definitely. As expected, a nice fruitiness with a candied sweetness. Acidity is also felt throughout here, in the mouth spicy notes also come through more strongly, as well as something almost peaty.Good Fiji representative, but I think to have had better in the glass. For a really fair assessment, I would have to taste him but again in peace at home. To take a bottle but he would have to inspire me even more.

Cedar wood on the nose, alcohol and spices. A slightly lean nose. On the palate, it's all the same. The cedar not only dominates, but also dries out the mouth. The finish is rather short, dominated by wood. A rum that gives an impression of dryness and lacks amplitude.

Nose: when first perceived spontaneously came to mind "Hampden essence", after longer breathing it became a little more relaxed and aromas of tobacco and freshness joinedAt the palate it spreads creamy and intense. Acidic fruit, wood, resinous spice and something artificial I perceive! Very tasty. In the finish this flavor continues in a lighter form!A good Fiji

#4111 This was a very nice surprise and I think that the price to quality is very good. Fresh and fruity with some esters and glue notes. There is a lovely smoky note on the nose once it's been rested for a good while. The palate is dry and warm with nice fruits and medicinal notes. The empty glass reveals some iodine and dried fruit.

On the nose quite ester-heavy, next to citrus, candied. On the palate spicy, decent acidity. Solid, like other Fiji from 2009, but he can not really inspire me somehow, just one holds against how much more Fiji is capable of (such as with the IdR 2001).

Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Personally, a little too bitter and smoky burnt and in the finish strangely herbal and vinegary lastig... I'm not quite warm with but still a solid fiji. Alcohol well integrated but that's it... overall, I've had much better fijis...
