Even as I poured it into the glass.... thought uhhh ?? Foursquare, Bourbon? Barbados? Blindly I would never have assigned it to Chairmans. Nose very chocolaty, woody, vanilla and caramel...gaaaaaanz in the background and after at least 20min in the glass some dried fruits come through. On the palate the same game but with the addition of a great spiciness of roasted nuts and vanilla from the wood. Very heavy and palatable.

4 Chairmans in direct comparison: 1st Chairmans 1802 Very fruity, vanilla, increasingly more spice, balanced, sweeter and sweeter on the palate over time. Lots of bourbon influence. 8.5 pts. 2nd Chairmans Rum&Co Comparatively more fruit, especially cherry. Vanilla and sweet finish. 8.5 pts. 3rd Chairmans 2008, Rhumattitude Completely different, lots of bourbon influence and even more coconut! Resembles a Foursquare or Belize rum. 81 pts. 4th Chairmans Excellencerhum See astringent, lots of herbs, wood, fruit in the finish. 87 pts.

I would have blindly placed it in Barbados. It lacks a lot of the aromas that otherwise make up the St. Lucia profile. Is that a bad thing? Yes and no. In terms of quality and craftsmanship, this is a mature distillate at a top level and undoubtedly pleasant to drink. On the other hand, in terms of complexity, it is rather manageable and correspondingly interchangeable. Just enough to classify it as a very good rum.

A warm nose with overripe pineapple and banana, glue and alcohol that could be a little better integrated. Sweetness (burnt caramel) and freshness also in the background. The aromas, after the development of the alcohol, develop and become more powerful, with toasty, vanilla wood and tropical fruits that are less ripe than on the nose. The palate, with its power, minty freshness and balance, is far more beautiful than expected. Then the aromas diminish, leaving warm, bitter caramel and surprising freshness on the palate. A very fine rum, quite complex, fresh and deep.

Reminds - as already mentioned in several reviews - very strongly of a Foursquare. This makes it quite accessible and without the "dirty" notes familiar from other bottlings. It still suits my taste. Alcohol is very well integrated.

The Saint Lucias have a huge variety of flavors...this Chairman's for me has an ester/solvent flavor throughout, combined with roasted nuts and a slight salty spicy note. And always some vanilla in the background... wonderful

I splits and I can't resist this gourmet smell so I taste! The nose is super gourmand and very foursquare 100% Bourbon. The mouth has its own little touch with a banana arriving on the end which is very pleasant. Verdict: super gourmet killer at a great price, thanks rum attitude! (Nb: it's quite nice to be able to appreciate these different profiles of ste Lucie according to the distillation apparatus!)
