A rare rum from the 40s. Actually, nothing is known about the content, origin, or ABV. I took a small sample from the last HanseSpirit. Definitely a blend, maybe some Agricole in it? And it probably has 44%. I'm very curious: Nose: Despite only 44%, sufficiently intense, balanced, and also complex. The blender captures the fine aromas nicely. I find a pleasant, light medicinal note of iodine mixed with intense cherry yogurt. It strongly reminds me of the old Courcelles. Added are honey and salt, which reminds me a bit of Rockley. Behind these upfront aromas, I discover fruit notes towards apple and mandarin, as well as very subtly dusty, old wooden floorboards and somehow something vegetal, herbal. Great for such an old drop! 8.2 Palate: As expected, you have to taste more finely here. The 44% make the rum seem quite thin, but also somehow elegant. At the beginning, sharply salty and slightly woody-herbal. I also find some anise, sesame, and caraway. In the somewhat short finish, it becomes distinctly grassy, which could indicate an Agricole portion. 7.6 Nose very nice, palate unfortunately too thin. Still great to be able to try such rums. 🤗
