Review by Jack M
Cork split on opening! Saved by decanting through a cheese cloth. Very dark in colour- old oak. Nose - mostly a strong caramel/ crème brûlée profile, though some wood and possibly leather. Palate - watery at first, followed by sweetness - caramel. Some Barbadian spicy notes in there too. Can’t say I’m detecting any Jamaican funk. Finish - slightly burnt caramel. Overall - interesting to try as a historical reference point of 80’s navy rum (funny to think it has been in the decanter longer than I’ve been on the planet). The low ABV and (I suspect) addition of caramel ensure the rum it self is fairly average.
