Here's the surprise: 30 years in a barrel, and the palate still comes across thin and watery. The nose is the good part — caramel, vanilla, coffee and cocoa, with a little glue and dried orange several tasters loved. Then the sip drops off fast into light chocolate-coffee sweetness. A soft, mild Spanish-style sipper where the aroma clearly outpaces what lands on the tongue.

31.08.2025 Retasting at the German Rum Fest 2025. Fruity with vanilla. -------------- This was the last one in the tasting of today. This is a great 30 year old. Well that said, the youngest rum in this blend is 30 years! A really well balanced and at an OK price tag. If you like Cuban rum you should give this one a try. Getting a bottle may be a challenge as it's extremely limited. The price tag for this bottle is very good compared to what you get.

Awesome nose, weak palate! On the nose, it reminds me of Demerara or Barbados and tempts with a good dose of glue, but also lets a Spanish character peek through. Unfortunately, the palate can't confirm this impression and fails completely here. Way too thin, not to say watered down, there's not much left from 30 years of aging. Only the oily consistency and thick streaks on the glass hint at the age. Probably much more exciting without dilution, too bad!

In direct comparison the loser against the Origenes 18-year-old. Incredibly bland, boring and dull, without any concrete flaws or special features. Also massively overpriced at €300. A shelf warmer all around.

#1 RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Fruity nose (cocconut, green apple), honey, sweet… it reminds me on a Plantation XO. In mouth it‘s very thin, low body with some notes of cocconut, dark chocolate. The finish is sweet too with notes of honey and cocconut. Max. 20-25 years old blend. I fall down, when i saw the price tag for this one. Nose: sweet, toffee, honey, green apple, cocconut, oak (wood), raisins. Mouth: thin, sweet, round, dry, dark chocolate, vanilla, cocconut, honey, toffee. Finish: short/medium oak, roasted, coffee, cocconut, toffee.

RumX-Adventskalender, 1.12. Erster Eindruck: zurückhaltende aber schön würzig-süße Nase, hat ein durchaus angenehmes Aromenspiel und erinnerte mich zuerst an einen El Dorado. Am Gaumen dann aber der krasse Abfall… verwässert, dünn und kaum Aromen; hatte mich an einen Madeira erinnert. Maximal um die 40%. Nase: kramellig süß, entfernt etwas getrocknete Blutorange und etwas Rosine. Leichter Hauch von Vanille und Pfeifentabak mit ein wenig Klebstoff und leicht vinegarem Anklang. Gaumen: sehr dünn. Einzig kommt mir da der Geschmack von grünen Trauben in den Sinn. Im Abgang geht er Richtung Kamille. Die feine Nase rettet ihn gerade noch in die 70er. Sehr schade, was Verdünnung aus einem 30 yo Rum machen kann!

Leichte Kost zum 1. Advent im Rum-Kalender. Der Origenes 30 bringt an Nase und Gaumen Noten von Vanille, Toffee, geröstete Nüsse und Schokolade mit. Extrem mild. Nach einer kurzen Recherche handelt es sich tatsächlich um einen non-solera von 30 Jahren. Ein spanischer Premium-Rum. Respekt! ✊

Haha die Beschreibung bei RumX sagt schon alles. Wirklich ein sehr röstiges Teil, Kaffee und Kakao sindxdeutlich erkennbar. Dann haben wir noch leichte Noten von Toffee. Leicht süßlich, aber ganz ok dieser Rum.

30 years in a barrel gave this Ron a clear wooden profile on the nose, with hints of vanilla, coffee, chocolate and coconut..same profile when sipping it and, given the lob ABV, you should do it slowly, otherwise you’ll finish it too fast, as it is really an “easy going” rum :)

RumX advent calendar, day 1. About 5 years ago I would have probably thought that this was one of the best rums in the world, but times (and tastes) change over time. Very accessible Spanish style rum. Probably not worth it’s price in my current personal preferences.

The rum is quite thin and I also look in vain for fruit notes, but the cocoa-chocolate-coffee mix is very accessible. If I ever feel like cocoa or coffee with a kick, this one would be high on the list. The nose promised much more than the taste delivers.

In direct comparison with the Origenes 18 I have to say, I find this one, which is also easy to drink, brings more wood and more complex notes, but is weaker than the 18 in terms of price-performance ratio... For €340 I definitely wouldn't buy this rum, then rather the 18 version for about €80, if you like Panama. 😜

Zunächst mal zur Stärke des Rums - es gibt an ihm sensorisch absolut nichts auszusetzen. Was hier an der Nase und auf der Zunge stattfindet, ist quasi archetypisch für (lange) gelagerten Rum aus einer Kolonnen-Destille. Ganz viel Holz und Vanille an der Nase und am Gaumen, gepaart mit ein paar extra-reifen Brombeeren. Der Abgang ist dementsprechend samtig weich und ohne größere Überraschungen. Insgesamt lecker, aber vielleicht auch wegen den “nur” 40% auch nicht übermäßig spannend. Hier muss ich dann aber auch schon zum Kritik-Teil überschwenken. Neben all den schönen Aromen ist der Rum auch relativ süß. Schon der 18er Origenes war mit ca. 16 g/l auf der süßen Seite und der 30er steht dem meinem Gaumen nach zu urteilen zumindest in nichts nach. Nun wird Zucker ja in der Regel zugesetzt, um einen Rum gefälliger zu machen und die scharfen Kanten eines Destillats etwas abzumildern. Bei einem 30 Jahre gereiften Rum übernimmt das aber in aller Regel ja schon das Fass, wodurch der Zucker eher kontraproduktiv ist oder zumindest noch vorhandene Aromen des ursprünglichen Brandes unnötig kaschiert. Hier wären sie sogar sehr willkommen gewesen. Noch ein Wort zu besagtem Ursprungs-Destillat. Eigentlich es einem nur leid tun. Aus einer Kolonnen-Destille per se schon mit etwas weniger Ecken und Kanten in die Welt gekommen, musste es seinen Charakter nun gegen 30 Jahre Holzeinfluss, Zuckerzusatz und eine Verdünnung auf 40% Trinkstärke verteidigen. Es hatte nie wirklich eine Chance. Betrachtet man den Preispunkt des Rums dazu - der wohl um die 300 EUR / Flasche liegt - wird die Vorstellung des Rums für mich endgültig absurd. Vielleicht befinden wir uns bei dem Rum aber auch schon in Sphären von Luxusartikeln, wo Wert und Preis zunehmend entkoppelt sind - schließlich gibt es auch in der Whisk(e)y-Welt Flaschen für mehrere hunderte und tausende Euro. Für mich persönlich ist der Origenes 30 aber für diese Preisklasse dann doch zu halbgar umgesetzt.

Unfortunately that is really only a small departure from the 18 year old. A little bit more watery and even less exciting. At first it tastes of cold water. How the fuck do you manage to make your rum taste like water? At the end this falls really flat...
