La Favorite La Flibuste 1995
Prunes, raisins and dark chocolate lead here, wrapped in a syrupy texture that coats the palate — this is a 25-year agricole that drinks nothing like a young grassy Martinique rum. Several tasters catch old tawny port, maple syrup, even a faint cola note over old oak. Rich and mild at 40%, deep rather than lively. The recurring gripe: the age is real, the price is steep.

Another very nice release, though not fully up to par with the older versions. Very fruity from nose to finish with a touch of spices and oak. I love the smoky finish on this particular release. Price is pretty high but a good rum none the less.

Likeable but way too expensive.

Color: Reddish umber Aroma: Sweet of raisins, prunes and cocoa. Not very intense, chocolaty. Taste: Sweet with lots of chocolate. Then spicy with time. Fruity (plum) and mild. Finish: Medium length Dry and woody, herbal and spicy with dark chocolate. 88 points

You can't ask for more from me considering its stratospheric price and rather low strength. Nice balance with oak, licorice, and cherry.

Lacks a bit of pep, I expected something better for the price.

Pleasant nose that immediately suggests its advanced age. A mix of old oak, ultra-ripe and sugar-laden fruits, prunes and raisins. Also notes of fortified wine, old tawny port, and maple syrup. On the palate, these ripe fruit notes and a syrupy texture are found, which stays well in the mouth and coats the palate and tongue. This concentration of sugar mixed with spices like nutmeg and cinnamon even sometimes suggests a slight cola taste. These cola notes linger long in the finish intertwined with sweet notes like maple syrup or homemade brown sugar syrup. It's an excellent rum; I don't give it a higher rating because unfortunately the price is very high, but the age count is significant so it's probably justified, though at this price I expect something even more exceptional for my part.
