Sipped neat, this drinks soft and sweet — caramel, raisins and a dusting of cinnamon, with cocoa and dry oak on the palate. The nose is balanced, vanilla, cinnamon, dried fruits, a bit of wood, light cognac note and raisins. The taste matches the nose, slightly sweet, raisin, vanilla, cinnamon and a bit of chocolate on the finish. The cognac cask note is present. The rum forms a good symbiosis with the cognac cask. I would recommend this rum to a cognac lover.

Then I had the Louis Santo twice from the Oldenburger Buddel Jungs. Here we have wood and caramel on the nose, as well as a hint of citrus fruits. On the palate, a pleasant sweetness (caramel, chocolate, and vanilla), as well as dried fruits and wood.

A rum with a caramel and woody nose and a hint of citrus. The palate is more bitter than expected, with dried fruit in addition to caramel and wood. The finish, too, is slightly bitter, with hints of brandy.

This Louis Santo is a little bit better than the 7-year-old but still not worth recommending from me. The sweetness runs through from start to finish, with a bit more wood and a light cinnamon note. For beginners, it's probably something nice to discover again, but the artificial sweetness just bothers me.

A sweet, beginner-friendly rum with notes of caramel, raisins, and wood on the nose. On the palate, notes of brandy, raisins, cinnamon, spices, chocolate, and wood. I expected more from this rum as well.
