Sherry fans looking for a young cask-strength pour are the audience here — a 4-year Dutch pot-still finished in Pedro Ximénez casks. The nose leans smoky-sweet with raisin and dried apricot; the palate turns woody and peppery, with licorice and a touch of leather. Impressive oak for its age, but several tasters found the alcohol not fully integrated and the whole thing a bit forgettable.

As expected, the weakest of the three current windmills, for me without recognition value. Maybe what for a high-quality cocktail? In the nose soft wood (here he gets 76 points from me). On the palate, the rum is rather tart for my liking, I notice nothing of the sweetness of any PX cask (68 points).

#6127 25.12.2025 Finishing of a nice day relaxing with a spread of nice rums. Here we go for the Dutch Windmills that I have had samples of for a while. Nose Light wood, light roasted, dried fruit, spice, light sherry, faint caramel, faint coffee. Palate Wood, light roasted, raisin, peppery, spice, light anise, light sherry, faint leather, light chocolate, faint caramel. Finish Medium long, wood, raisin, peppery, light anise, dried fruit, light leather. Empty glass Light chocolate, anise, light leather, raisin, light sherry.

The third Windmühle, highest ABV, but at 4 years also the youngest and then probably reflexively filled into a Pedro barrel, so that as many aromas as possible can be found?! Nose: already a clear sherry influence, smoky-sweet with dried apricot and raisin, plus subtle red wine. Woody-spicy with lots of vanilla. But not much more than that. Relatively generic. 6.9 Palate: the sweet sherry clearly dominates here. Again smoky-sweet, slight licorice and vanilla, also a bit peppery at the start. At the back it gets a bit meaty. Again the typical dried apricot. If you like sherry, you'll get your money's worth here. I don't need that. 6.7 Like it least of the three.

On the nose it is quite fruity and sherry-focused. Spicy and woody on the palate and the sherry is no longer so present. In a blind tasting, one might guess a Cognac finish. Compared to the extremely brilliant 8yr, this one is much spicier with strong peppery accents, which is also due to the less well integrated alcohol. The finish is short to medium length and offers, besides fruity sherry and wood, some licorice.

In a direct comparison of the three Zuidam FRC releases, the most complex and at the same time most mature profile. For me, therefore, also with the nose in front in the overall evaluation, because the aromatic complexity is most pronounced for me here.
