For me, clearly the strongest of the three current Windmill bottlings. As if you put your nose in a bag of butterscotch candies (86 points) and lick with your tongue at liquid, still warm caramel (82 points). Really extraordinary in its uniqueness, how do you get something like that without additives!?very high recognition value.

Well, not quite my cup of tea with this rum. I find it far too sweet. We have vanilla and caramel on the nose. The same on the palate, but this is where the extreme sweetness comes into play. Not a recommendation.

These sherry or olorosso finishes are definitely not my thing. I find that they always end on a rather unpleasantly bitter note. It's a pity, because the espresso notes on the finish of this rum were enough for the bitterness :) Edit: impression not confirmed on second tasting. It's rather greedy and caramelized. The reason is there but seems less bitter to me. In the end, I rather liked it.

The first of the three Windmills. Already something special, a Dutch rum. Let's see if the Oloroso finish is too much... Nose: at first the alcohol is a bit sharp, but behind that it is spicy-fruity and slightly woody. Besides a distinct vanilla and toffee note, I find dried and slightly sulfured apricot, grape, and sweet-sour passion fruit. The sherry cask brings a slight smoky note, but not too much. A bit too much toffee and vanilla. 7.7 Palate: here the sherry finish is already more noticeable. It feels sweet-spicy-woody, slightly peppery, a bit bitter, and finely smoky. Dried apricot and cherry bring some fruitiness. Towards the end it becomes somewhat sweeter, slightly candied. A bit too sweet with a bit too much sherry, but still okay. 7.5

Beautiful, deliciously sweet nose, which is also convincing on the palate. I really like it. I'm simply a fan of FRC, who often release something that nobody else does. Even if not every bottling is completely convincing, I like the philosophy.

Very very exciting. How is it possible to bring such a phenomenal caramel note into a rum? In terms of aromas, this is the most beautiful Oloroso finish I have ever encountered. Caramel sweets, toffee and very creamy. I am thrilled. Unfortunately, the alcohol is not so well integrated and burns a little on the tongue. Otherwise I would have given it a slightly higher score. Nevertheless, this rum is a must for all fans of Oloroso maturations. A really great experience and the price is perfectly acceptable.

#6126 25.12.2025 Finishing of a nice day relaxing with a spread of nice rums. Here we go for the Dutch Windmills that I have had samples of for a while. Nose Wood, light roasted, round, light caramel, dried fruit, spice, faint nutmeg, light sherry. Palate Sweet, wood, light roasted, light honey, spice, light caramel, dried fruit, light plum, faint smoke. Finish Medium long, sweet, wood, dried, fruit, butterscotch, light caramel, light smoke. Empty glass Caramel, light smoke, vanilla, faint chocolate, raisin.

This month the rum subscription spoiled me with a really fine specialty. From the halls of the Flensburg Rum Company came the “FRC Dutch Windmill Collection Single Cask The Kinderdijk Windmills 8 Years”. Briefly deconstructing this name monster: It is an 8-year-old rum bottled at cask strength (52.2%) from the Netherlands, part of a series of bottlings dedicated to the country's typical windmills. In this case, the Kinderdijk windmill is the namesake of the bottling. Unfortunately, there are some competing statements about how the aging was done, but all agree that the rum matured wholly or partly in Oloroso sherry casks. Promising data, but how does it perform in the glass? Especially the apparently full continental maturation in a maritime environment is unusual and makes you want more... ahem, I mean more ;-) Already on the nose, the rum presents itself mature and harmonious. Primarily the cask influence of vanilla and wood notes is present, but due to the sherry influence, light fruit notes of plums and other ripe stone fruits also mix in here. Of course, the alcohol is present but well integrated and not burning. Really great first impression. On the tongue, this continues: the alcohol is excellently integrated and barely burns even with longer presence on the tongue. This gives enough time to enjoy the aromas gradually. Besides the known wood and vanilla notes, here again for me especially aromas of plums and very ripe apricots can be tasted. The Oloroso influence is clearly noticeable here. A nice change from the PX sherry rums that have become inflationary in recent years. I also like those, but some variety is always welcome in the glass. All in all, the rum is a real highlight for me. An aromatically interesting and really delicious single cask bottling without additives at cask strength for ~65 EUR is a real knockout in the current rum scene.

Easily the best of this trio. This really gets Foursquare in a wine cask vibes. Not great but significantly better than the rest. I don't mind this at all. But alas, it does not really excite. Plus: foursquare those this better ;)
