Aroma visualization from community tastings
Zuidam FRC Dutch Windmill Collection (De Gekroonde Poelenburg)
Sipped neat, this is a clean, woody pot-still rum: toasted oak, vanilla and coconut up front, with licorice, dried fruit and a faint glue note underneath. The cask-strength alcohol sits well-integrated, never hot. Several tasters compare it to core Foursquare and even guess Barbados. The recurring gripe: it's nicely made but a bit short on depth and "uncompelling" character.
- Well-integrated alcohol
- Oak and vanilla
- Clean coconut note

Clean woody pot-still, light on depth Well-made and easy to enjoy — oak, vanilla and coconut, with smartly tamed alcohol. The catch most tasters name: it lacks depth and a real wow moment.

Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
Not bad, but not stunning either. Remains somewhat behind the concise 8-year-old caramel bomb in the Oloroso cask. Nose: vanilla, solid, seems older (83 points); Palate: vanilla again, some coconut, long and warm persistence (81 points). Is this a rum from Barbados? The question of origin unfortunately leaves one perplexed with all three bottlings - why on earth don't the wind millers state that?

The Zuidam distillery not only impresses with its Millstone whiskies, its rums are also very promising. This 10-year-old bottling is reminiscent of Barbados and Belize due to its slightly fruity aroma, which is otherwise characterized by toasted wood with a slight glue vapor as well as vanilla and coconut. A little more depth would be nice, but otherwise I like it a lot.

The second windmill... Nose: very fruity-spicy-sweet. Coconut with cream toffee and butterscotch, sugar syrup and cherry, apricot and sweet and sour redcurrant predominate. The new wooden barrel provides plenty of vanilla and your very light smoky note. Again, too much sweet toffee for me, but quite delicate. 7,7 Palate: woody and spicy with liquorice and vanilla. Grape, peach and orange peel, slightly bitter and a little sour. The peach dominates here. Quite ok, but lacks some depth. 7,7

Goes in the direction of Foursquare with nice barrel notes and some coconut.

Somehow this manages to be completely uncompelling. Don't get me wrong, clearly people know how to distillate here. But in the end it falls too short on havijgbmuchbof a character for me to really praise it. It is in the range of core OB Foursquare
