Fresh citrus and cut hay lead here, with pineapple, honey and a little Jamaican-style ester funk underneath. This is a cask-strength South African pot-still rum, and the 63.6% brings real warmth without turning harsh. Most tasters find the nose brighter than the palate — a roasted, cigar-like note steps in and closes things out. One member says it's better neat than watered down.

#4651 09.03.2024 relaxing at home with some nice samples from Roberto. Nose Fresh, faint wood, fruits, sweet, ester, vegetal. Palate Spicy, sweet, light wood, faint smoke, fruity, ester, vegetal. Finish Long, spicy, citrus, light ester. Draws nice curtains in the glass. The empty glass has some glue, faint floral and light caramel notes.

Quite a contrast between nose and palate. While the glass initially releases a delicate fruit aroma, a very present roasted note hits the palate, reminiscent of burnt tobacco. I would have much preferred a continuation of the pointed fruit profile; unfortunately, much of the complex freshness is lost due to the roasted notes. Those who like smoky notes will probably come to a different verdict than I do; for me, the smoky note just doesn't work enough.

Fruity, light smoky smell that promises a lot, it unfortunately can not implement in the taste. Finish very short and flat. Perhaps more smoke would have improved the overall impression.

MHoba Warehouse #1 S.A.W. Cask Rum is a unique rum from South Africa, characterized by its freshness and complex fruity profile. Ester and citrus notes give it an unmistakable character. Stronger rum from South Africa. You can't really recognize that in the smell, hay and grass dominate. Taste-wise a bit rougher. For me, your rum.

My first Mhoba. Aroma is very fruity, I noticed alcoholic scent. There is little bit of that FUNKY scent, which kind of reminds me rums from Jamaica, but there is a lot of hay/straw and fruity scents (citrusy and some sweet scent honey??). The taste is very similar to aroma. I really liked the straw/hay taste with combination of very pleasant warmth feeling. Taste is one big bang of fruity flavor (citrus). Finish is long and complete with that pleasant warmth feel, spicy and fruity. Definetly not a rum for everyone.
