Opinion here lands squarely in the middle, and it's the rye that divides people. The finish brings gingerbread spice, pepper and a drier, woodier edge to the usual Ocho caramel and vanilla. Most agree it noses better than it drinks — a few find the rye and the sweet rum never quite click on the palate. At 45% the alcohol sits well integrated, and it holds up nicely in a cuba libre.

Better than expected. The finish is noticeable but not dominant. Much better on the nose than in the mouth. The rum tastes slightly watered down, probably due to the reduction. It definitely cuts a fine figure in a Cuba Libre. Pvl completely ok.

The nose is greeted by an alcoholic rye note. A dry mix of caramel and spices on the palate. The alcohol is well integrated and the price/performance ratio is also reasonable. Better than the standard Bacardi portfolio.

This is an interesting rum. The rye barrel is clearly noticeable in both the nose and the mouth through its spiciness. When I bought it, I thought that this spiciness would provide a good counterbalance to the sweet rum aromas. But somehow it doesn't fit and the result is not well-rounded. Much better on the nose than in the mouth. This rum is interesting, but is it also tasty? - If it were up to me, probably not.

The rye really comes thru when tasting. Recommend if you love both Rye and Rum. Limited production so don’t delay our you’ll miss it. Price is right too!

The Bacardí Reserva Ocho Rye Cask Finish skillfully combines classic, aged rum with spicy whiskey influences. Caramelized sugar, vanilla, and tropical fruits meet gingerbread, maple syrup, pepper, and smoky oak. Velvety and strong on the palate, with pleasant rye spice. The cask finish gives it more depth and dryness than the classic Reserva Ocho – exciting and uncomplicated at the same time. I was surprised what is possible from Bacardi at this price.
