02.10.2016 - 03.10.2016 A great extended weekend with rum friends. This was a nice event and lots of space between the tables. Only problem was the level of English at some of the exhibitors. Here are the rums we tasted at the event itself, nothing truly unique but we had fun. This is the second half of the tastings. Notes Transparent in colour. Nose Fresh, Agricole, grass, floral, sugarcane, light citrus. Palate Fresh, round, pineapple, citrus, light floral, vanilla, light caramel, grass, medium dry. Finish Medium long, fresh, fruity, light caramel, medium dry.

A quite smooth Agricole Blanc with the saltiness, from the sea where the cane grows, is very present in a nice way. Got a sample of it as a birthday gift from my children together with some other bottles.

Well, it's not easy being a rum drinker. First great esters from Jamaica, then great dark rums from Guyana and then suddenly an unpeated Agricole :) But it's also ok, very herbal, fresh and grassy. Typical unpeated Agricole.

A white agricultural rum with an original profile, driven by floral, earthy, iodized and spicy notes, followed by a touch of tropical fruit and citrus. On the palate, the spices and pepper bring a certain dryness, which is offset by a slightly fatty, gourmet texture. The finish continues in the same vein, with iodine, vegetal, minty and salty notes. An inexpensive rum that stands out from the crowd.

Possibly my favorite low proof, entry level agricole so far. It’s surprisingly complex; briny, medicinal, and slightly floral upfront, followed by more traditional bright, grassy flavors, and finishing out with stonefruit and a little bit of spice. It has a nice texture as well, by no means thin despite being only 42%. With sugar and lime it makes a respectable Ti’ punch, although I find it better served in other, heftier cocktails—it makes a very pleasant, balanced daiquiri.

On tasting, it's the sweetness of the cane that still dominates; with only 42°, it's a light white rum that lets its iodized flavors express themselves. The saline side is subtle and only underlines the balance of this rum. The finish is rather long for a white rum, and you feel like you're at Anse Trabaub, coming out of a sea bath with the cane scents sweeping the beach.
