HSE Single Cask (MEB 2022) 2006
Dried apricots, dark chocolate and toasted almonds lead here, with cinnamon, vanilla and a well-melted oak backbone underneath. This 2006 Simon-distilled agricole spent nearly 16 years in cask and drinks velvety, with the alcohol tucked in neatly. Several tasters call it their best HSE, though a couple wished for a few more percent to push it further.

Tasted at RhumFest, so not the best conditions. However, although compared to the Bally bdf 2004, I found it top-notch. To be tried again as soon as possible! Decidedly, I'm not very agricultural, but HSE often makes me think I should explore this terrain more :) Edit: another quiet test and the first impression is confirmed. Superb bottle

#4059 A pretty nice single cask from HSE. The wood plays first violin followed by fruits and spices. Pretty fresh profile in my mind but would have loved a higher ABV. The empty glass is really nice and I can pick up some nuts that weren't there on the initial nose and perfume/flowery notes.

The second release from the 2006 Single Cask, this HSE lives up to expectations. The nose is extremely aromatic, deep and elegant, with tropical fruit (pineapple), dried fruit (dried apricots), tobacco, roasted almonds, toasted bread, spices (cinnamon, vanilla, pepper), mellow oak, dark chocolate, caramel and candied cane. An olfactory blend that works to perfection. On the palate, the attack is lively and intense, but just as tasty. The profile is very spicy and delicate, with dark, woody and tannic notes, followed by a powerful empyreumatic perfume of toasted and roasted notes (notably almond). Exotic fruits and raisins, sugar cane and chocolate are also present. A multi-faceted profile, perfectly mastered and wildly round. The finish, slightly longer than the first batch, eclipses the fruit in favor of warm, sweet spices, wood, chocolate, coffee and almonds, with a hint of candied cane caramel. A noble rum from the world of agriculture.

Thanks to the HSE stand for letting me taste this new release. The previous one had really won me over, which is what I love about Agricole, a model of gourmandise and balance at an affordable price (and what's more, it's not rare, but unfortunately the bottles aren't black and collectors' items and there are no animals on the labels😆). It's hard to compare this one with the 2021 because I tasted it quickly at a trade show, but it seemed just as good to me. So for me, very high marks like its little brother.

A very nice H.S.E, so far probably my best in the cupboard. Dark chocolate meets roasted notes. The alcohol is also well integrated. Not a daily sipper for every day, rather an occasional sipper for suitable days.

Very strong start with a wonderful balance of roasted aromas, fruits, oak wood and spices like vanilla and cinnamon. Also caramel and the vegetal agricole touch must not be missing. On the mouth and finish similar with a tendency to oak wood. Very solid rum with a high balance and importantly: very velvety delicious.

I didn’t take any notes at the Rhum Fest so a more detailed review will follow as soon as I get the chance to sample this rum again in a better context.

Small Herzogenaurach tasting in Flo's cellar: This is a very nice bottling from HSE. The nose is beautifully fruity and spicy. A little wood and dark notes are added on the palate. The Agricole character is always unmistakable. A few more percent would do it good.

Nose: dried plums, apricots, dates, almonds, Brazil nuts, chocolate truffle Palate: dates, sweet cherry, cinnamon, vanilla, a bit of walnut, a bit of wood, alcohol well integrated, very nice to drink

Pretty tasty. It reminds me of the high-quality grappas from Berta made from Nebbiolo grapes. Dried apricots, vanilla, chocolate, tobacco, simply wonderful

Meb octobre 2022: very fine, as is often the case with the Simon distillery, but almost too fine in the end ... The nose is sublime, the palate pretty, but I lacked the length to play in the big league! It's still very well made
Review by GuybrushThreepwood
Dried fruit nose. On the palate initially wood (in a positive way) and only then dried fruits. Nice balance, I like it very much.

Farming at its best!

Vintage 2022, bottled from a single cask. I rate it 8.5 out of 10, an excellent rum that ranks high even among my more than 1,300 ratings.

Bottled October 2022. A high-flying agricole rum! The nose is really magnificent, opening on aromas of ripe tropical fruits, spices/cinnamon, blond tobacco, slight bitter almond, very gourmand and very expressive. The mouth is really smooth, quite rich, the pepper has been superbly tamed by time, beautiful woodiness, apricot jam, very spicy. Cigar box, coffee/cocoa, vanilla. Less complex than the nose but very good. The finish is quite long on notes of tobacco box, cocoa, light pepper/spices, oak barrel. Empty glass: tobacco box, old oak barrel, forest mushrooms.

What a pleasure! A present woodiness that doesn't saturate! The length is there, the HSE markers and Cyril's work as well.
