Swell de Spirits Arcade (V&B Exclusive Series 01)

Sip it neat and the 75% hides better than it should — soft, round, a little mineral, with overripe banana and light solvent underneath. Several tasters flag the surprise: for such a high-proof unaged Jamaican, the esters take a back seat, so it reads more subtle than wild. A few found it a touch flat neat and much livelier in a daiquiri.

The community says
  • Alcohol well integrated
  • Ripe banana fruit
  • Keep in mind: Muted esters

How does Swell de Spirits Arcade (V&B Exclusive Series 01) taste?

From community reviews · summarized with AI

Fruity high-proof Jamaican, softer than expected Well-integrated alcohol for 75% and pleasantly fruity, but the esters are lighter than the proof suggests — some love the restraint, others wanted more funk and found it a bit tame neat.

A well-made blend with surprisingly pleasantly integrated alcohol! The fruity notes prevail with the expected ester flavors! It can be enjoyed neat with zest and as a mixer. A successful bottling

#4158 If you're expecting an ester bomb you're going to be disappointed. The esters are there just kind of taking the rear seat on this one. Very fruity with nice floral notes. The palate is warm and medium dry and the finish is long. Nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has some medicinal notes (maybe iodine) to it.

A rather refined blend despite the 75°. Of course, you can tell it's not reduced to 45°. No doubt about the origin, but it's not an ester bomb. It's more subtle and very fragrant.

A blend of Jamaican rums that is subtle and discreet for its alcohol content. The nose is rather timid, despite the phenolic and fruity notes typical of Jamaica. On the palate, the rum is surprisingly discreet. The whole is very well controlled, with no hint of the 75%. The profile is deliberately low in esters, which makes it far less aromatic than you'd expect. The finish remains in the same vein. There's no explosiveness or artifice here: this is a product that is more refined and elegant than extreme, and this is what can unfortunately make it a little dull if left pure in the glass. Far from being a bad juice, this is a rum that seeks balance rather than exuberance, and will shine in mixology. It would have been interesting to blend all the higher marks to obtain a truly extreme profile.

Very nice blend! Rather on the fruity side, not so many esters. Alcohol surprisingly well integrated!

Very unbalanced blend, mainly alcoholic and medicinal. Okay in a daiquiri, but I was hoping for much more here ... I'm particularly bothered by this bitter iodine note. Hardly any fruit, hardly any esters... A bitter disappointment for me.

Kicking 2024! Lots of fruit, very ripe banana, slightly light esters, well-integrated alcohol, we enjoyed it! Floral notes on the finish, not to be missed.

Unripe Jamaican with massive ester content and clear funk note. On the nose, explosive aromas of solvent, fermented pineapple and banana, accompanied by some citrus and olives. On the palate raw, powerful and alcoholic, with intense fruit, salty spice, and a slightly metallic touch. The finish is long, sharp, and dry. An uncompromising high-ester rum, wild and demanding, more for purists than for lovers of mild profiles.

On the nose, what sweetness! You wouldn't guess there's a 75% juice in the glass. Slight solvents mingle with the round/sweet side. A very pleasant mineral note is also present. On the palate, however, the alcohol level is felt with a nice immediate warmth. Despite that, you keep this impression of roundness and minerality. You can taste the sugar. Blind, I could have mistaken its origin and taken it for a pure Guadeloupean rum. The solvents are present at the bottom of the glass but it's really the sweetness that predominates.

May contain traces of alcohol: we are clearly in Jamaica. Fermented fruit, funk. Relatively easy to drink despite the high alcohol content. However, there should be no illusions: the high alcohol content kills many aromas. Diluted with water and given time to breathe, more Jamaican flavors emerge. A nice rum, but more interesting for nerds.

Impressive alcohol integration, wonderfully creamy mouthfeel. Overall, however, rather reserved, no taste explosion, therefore not at the top level.
