Tangy hazelnut liqueur with a slightly burning finish. Certainly sweetened, colored and flavored to spice up the neutral alcohol. Let's see how it performs in cola. It performs as expected in cola, although there's not much you can do wrong. Therefore a slight upgrade to 30. Nice and unobtrusive with ginger beer.

A rum which I have known for a long time and super reliable. Nose is spicy and woody but hints at what is to come. The mouth is a bit one dimensional but there is enough interesting going on to keep me intrigued - leather, spice and some burnt butterscotch. Finish is long with spice and nutmeg alongside barrel influence and leather. It’s one of the best in terms of non dosed distilleries in Central America and versatile across cocktails and straight up. Super solid Spanish style rum

6,2:The first nose releases some fairly dry alcoholic aromas. The wood is strongly toasted, releasing notes of well-roasted nuts, chocolate note. A pass of solvent loosens the vanilla from the wood, then reveals a fruity, sweet and tangy character. Caramel and vanilla are accompanied by a very ethereal white floral side. The rum needs time to open, it washes away the alcohol notes and the rum will remain on dry notes of strongly toasted wood and roasted nuts. The dry, vegetal notes evoke walnut blossom, while the woody notes lighten up a little. 7:On the palate, the contrast is quite astonishing, as the rum is now very sweet. Toasted wood and roasted nuts are balanced by this sweetness. Walnuts and hazelnuts are tinged with a burnt, almost tarry touch. The rum is then fluid and light, with hints of tobacco, coconut, red fruit. 6:On the finish, the rum dries out and hooks the taste buds, bringing walnut out and is pretty short. Well, this rum could be easily skipped. 18 is more rounded and sippable.

A nose with quite a bit of caramel and vanilla. Some dried fruits and a nicely roasted coffee side. The first palate is full, pleasant but a bit monolithic. The finish is short, clearly marked by caramel.

The Flor de Cana 12 definitely has to be on the list of rums that everyone should try at least once. Personally, I especially like it in an Old Fashioned. So far, every one of my friends has been thrilled with this rum.

Woody, caramel, vanilla on repeat. The same notes you get on the nose carry to the palate and to the finish. Nothings stands out about this rum, but nothing is bad about this rum. It is a well rounded taste that would make a good base for a cocktail where you just want a basic molasses rum flavor.

Randomly had this classic in the glass. Not bad at all taste-wise with a nice mildness if you look at it kindly or just thin if you see it critically. Vanilla dominates, there's a decent amount of sweetness and some dried fruits also show up. Definitely useful for beginners or people looking for a simpler, aged rum to mix.

Again, not much. Dried fruit and nuts on the nose. Vanilla, wood and spices on the palate. Finishes with nougat and light spices. Tested as a Mule with ginger beer, it's fine, otherwise dry it's of no particular interest.

Nose: Wood, caramel, vanilla & wafts of alcohol primarily. A bit deeper in there's dried fruit (dates, fig), chocolate shavings and bitter skin nuts (hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds). Mouth: The stronger elements of the nose continue onto the palate, alongside some pleasant spice, though it all feels too thin and half-hearted. Finish: Shorter than I'd have wanted. I find an uninspiring bitterness in the aftertaste - that of walnut skin. Impression: As drinkable as it is, perhaps I was expecting more for the price and the presentation. I think I understand why people like it - it's an archetypal Spanish-style sipper - but I find it lacks personality to cement itself as a must-buy for my shelves.

Well. I did expect more, the Initial smell was of solvent and a bit glue, vanilla afterwards. Tastewise not very sweet but I believe still a bit sweetened, a citrus / vanilla note I find a bit artificial, and... Not much more.

Au nez : l'alcool ressort ainsi que le bois et le caramel. En bouche : même ressenti, le bois prend le dessus mais pas de manière "agréable", il efface les "notes" de rhums. Un petit côté grillé également et caramel. Finale : moyenne, tjs ce côté "bois grillé" et l'alcool présent. Légère déception pour ce rhum.

Smells like a fruity honey with vanilla and toffee. Tastes light and sweet and is quite mouthwatering. Not as smooth as some other rums, but not harsh. Obviously not as sweet as sugared rums, but not bitter and no raw wood flavour. On the taste I get warm barrel spices, especially vanilla and nutmeg. The finish is short to medium, not much flavour...a bit nutty, but again quite mouthwatering. It makes me want to sip again rather quickly.

For my taste, this rum has a slightly alcoholic note. Besides that, I get woody notes and hints of bourbon both in the nose and the palate. Flavor-wise, I don't find it very exciting. It's more something to have on the side rather than a flavor explosion.

A good enjoyment rum from the only distillery (to my knowledge) in Nicaragua, which places great emphasis on environmental sustainability. In a golden color, this rum is very pleasant to drink, even though the alcohol could be integrated a bit better. The very first nose initially conveys – though very subtly – a bit of glue, followed by caramel, some leather, and spicy notes, maybe something floral like blossoms or something similar. On the palate, caramel, vanilla, and some chocolate take the lead; wood is present but rather reserved. Overall, a pleasant, not overpowering sweetness. I can well imagine enjoying this on a quiet evening with a good book.

On The Rocks: On the nose slight sweetness with some fruit, floral and spice notes. Taste has initial alcohol hit and lingering burn opening up to stronger fruity and floral notes with underlying sweetness. It is ok as a sipper but nothing fantastic or special. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose slight caramel sweetness. Taste is a very nice caramel sweetness that lasts for awhile and is overall very smooth. Lacks complexity but it is much more enjoyable mixed.

I think this is the best of flor the caña lineup. It is smooth enough but also very citrus, I find lemon or grapefruit in it and find it very refreshing. And the earthy vulcano minerals I find salt in it which is very pleasant for me! A different bourbon cask rum and I like it!

Id say this is an average rum. I get alot if rubber in the nose and palette. I get some spices on the nose in the background. Id buy again because of the price point but not one of my favorites.

The nose is very oak forward. Beyond that there's some leather, vanilla, dried fruits and, if you really look for it, some pear. The palate really hits hard with the oak. Vanilla, caramel and cinnamon soon follow. There is a quite pleasant fig note running through the palate but it's very overshadowed by the oak. A short finish. Not bad though. Re minds me of a coffee with almond syrup. Overall. It's not great. The oak is way too much for my tastes. It's not a drain pour though.

Solid rum with the typical rum aromas of vanilla, caramel, primarily woody. On the palate then woody-spicy, dry. Much better than the rather simple Flor de Cana 7. Update: New version with blue label and 37.5% actually has a relatively different aroma profile, alongside vanilla and caramel a fairly intense coconut note, a bit nutty and oak in the background. Maybe they imported barrels from Barbados? ;-) Slightly milder and less 'edgy' than the old 40% bottling, it might even appeal more to beginners or 'the masses', personally I like the new blend better. Drinks: - Neat: 3.5/5 (new blend: 4/5) - Rum Cola: 3.5/5 - Rum Punch: 3.5/5

Back home we have milk lollies, which I guess are like milk duds. This is reminiscent of those candies as a kid. Vanilla and oak of course (of course!). Light and leathery with a touch of caramel and smoke.

I smell lots of flowers on the nose, but it turns smooth and chocolatey on the tongue. I get a little of the spicy oak notes others have mentioned, but if anything I taste more of like a Mexican coffee flavor. Really good neat, and I'd like to try it in a colada for sure.
