Sensational TDL, exactly to my taste. Mint and peach paired with many other notes. Additional dirtiness like you know from Caronis. The previous 2001 TDL RA bottling of course doesn't reach this level. The extra %ABV brings a lot of complexity.

Have this also again in peace and individually nachverkostet. Actually, I wanted to get me a bottle of it. But somehow he just does not pick me up at all. So in retrospect, I find the RA bottlings unfortunately all on a descending branch.

Great mint schwartzee note. Creamy and intense. Reminds by the intensity and rubber note almost a bit of the 2000 Caronis. A highlight of the 12th German Rum Festival.

Very nice nose with mint and some fruits. Compared to other 2001 releases, this one goes a step further however. More intense herbal notes ie black tea and resin/spruce notes from a forrest in the morning. On the palate a bit to wood forwards to make it to the top of 2001 TDLs for me.

Great deep nose. Unfortunately, my opinion at the fair is confirmed on the palate. The rum has been in the barrel for one or two years too long. Especially in comparison to the powerful other 2001 TDLs (also from RA). There is some mint in the background. But not much. Nor do I have the alleged Caroni associations of the younger brothers here. The bitters give the rum a much more mature note, which will certainly have its fans. The finish has roasted aromas, bitters and very light workshop notes. Reasonable PLV at the present time. End of the bottle: nicely infused again, I like it much better today.

Tasted as part of the RA online tasting for the RumX lottery 06/2023. With this bottling Rum Artesanal is back in the game after a perceived dry spell. Mint and tea galore. Superb. Can keep up with the best T.D.Ls between 2001 and 2003. I hope the level can be maintained.

RumX Community Tasting with Rum Artesanal to the Tasting Lottery June 2023: Absolute aroma bomb. Fresh mint, wood, slightly meaty-leathery, some subtle sweetness...wow. Impressive intensity. For me, one of the absolute top rums from the early 2000s TDL vintages and already a highlight of the 20023 releases.

Very heavy, very oily, fresh and intense. Bitter, strong black tea, some mint and lychee but also a lot of wood and tannins, very astringent on the finish. Doesn't quite deliver what it promises on the nose. Hence the point deduction for me as the wood is a little too dominant and bitter. Nevertheless, a nice TDL Vintage! The other 2001 from RA was clearly better...

Multi-layered and with power. Typical of a 2001 vintage. For me, however, not the preferred vintage of the TDLs. Compared to the others, the sweet tobacco note stands out. All 01 vintages need a little water for me, otherwise too dominant imo.

On aeration, the wood is roasted with confectionery, caramel, pineapple arises, some tea. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is dry, industrial with tar and rubber, the wood is roasted with confectionery, caramel, spicy, salty and smoky, as the fruits are citrus and tropical with passion fruit.The molassesis minty, herbaceous, later even grassy, earthy.On oxidation, tannins arise. 8,7:The finish is long, dry&tannic, the molasses is minty, dark with black tea, the wood is roasted with nuts, caramel, confectionery, spicy and smoky, as the fruits are tropical with passion fruit, mango and litchi.Some medicinal notes might be recognized.

There are 2001 vintages that are a bit heavier, but this one is a great representative. The long maturation makes it a little woodier in the finish, which suits this "dirty" Caroni note very well 👍 I would like to express my gratitude to Rum Artesanal for the flavor sets 🙏🏻

Tasted at the 12th GRF: Strong 2001 TDL, very close to the near-legend "No-Caroni." A bit more steam, but a touch less mint, overall just barely behind the sister cask. Still a nice bottling again.

RumX Lottery June 23, RA online tasting. The sister barrel from 2 years ago had made quite a few waves. I only say "hidden Caroni"! So this one was allowed to age another 2 years continental (I mean, 17 years tropical). From my point of view this did him very well. On the 12th GRF the nose was in any case the reason to buy him immediately ☺️. Nose: beautiful, sweet fresh mint. Intense but still round. Behind that some vinegar ,which makes it seem slightly dirty in combination. Spicy-herbal and slightly caramel-sweet. Great blend. 9.1 Palate: very intense and initially astringent and dry. Fresh mint totally! This transitions into menthol, mirroring the slightly "dirty" character of the nose. The high alcohol makes it bacony, with umami flavors that also transition into sweetness, have tonka bean associations here. I like it very much. 8.9 This one lasts a long time. Who likes mint, is exactly right with this rum.

#4181 I'd consider this a light TDL, but still it performs pretty well. Lots of wood without it being too dominant. Lots of fruits and I love the minty note that sneaks up on you.

First RumX community meeting at Acht. The first nose is very minty, then notes of a mechanical workshop with bicycle tire and a little tar. Could there be some Caroni in there? The palate is a strange mix between the mechanical workshop (rubber and tar) of Caroni and the mentholated fruit of TDL. Surprising and tasty! The finish is long, of course, and the machine shop notes take over more and more.

Wow, intense nose, very vegetal, floral and fruity, complemented by some honey. The alcohol is well integrated. Remarkable is the extremely long finish of lychee! Probably not the most complex rum, but an exceptional and very good one all the same.

Quite a beast that presses the aromas with a lot of force on the receptors due to the high proof, but still doesn't develop alcoholic sharpness. It's a bit too resinous for my personal T.D.L top class, but still a very fine rum with lots of mint, fruits, lacquered oak as well as subtle hints of rubber and tar cream, which bring an exciting dirty facet into play.

"Nothing to say, what a blast TDL! Here I had to add a few drops of water because it was a bit too strong for me neat. It is nicely complex, herbal, woody, dry and a bit bitter. Price (100 euros) to performance is okay here.

Classic 2001 TDL nose with a bit more fresh mint than usual. Smells like the mojito is already ready. Not very complex but what is there is nice and intense. On the palate the alcohol is noticeable according to the 67%. Along with the mint, a bit of roasted black tea mixes in. For me, it is less complex than, for example, the Asta Morris but I like the profile and the fresh mint note is amazing.

Continuing the tasting of the T.D.L with one of the few 2001s existing to date. 👃 Obviously herbal side; eucalyptus, dried mint leaf, black tea, a bit of cannabis leaf. Quite a typical 2001 aroma of forest fruits; black berries (blackcurrant of course, blueberry and blackberry in the background), light redcurrants. Note of caramelized fruit sugar at the bottom of the pot, jammy. Some "dirty" appearances, old garage, silicone grease, engine oil. I also have animal notes, old leather, manufactured products. Excellent nose where the alcohol does not seem so high. 😋 Alcohol kick, very herbal and fresh, menthol, eucalyptus, mint, green tea, tobacco, tannins and bitterness. Lots of wood too, spicy, toasted barrel, almost charred. In retro-olfaction, an acid-bitter presence of passion fruit, lychees and redcurrants, not yet ripe enough and less obvious than on the nose. Very good nose, dry, powerful and concentrated on freshness. ⛳ Very long, spicy, herbal, bitter, astringent, medicinal, drying. The fruits are largely in the background. In my opinion, it is the characteristics of the finish that block the score. 💡 A very good TDL, herbal, woody and dirty but quite far from the caroni-like complexity and fruitiness of the best representatives of the mythical 2001 vintage such as Rasta Morris, Casksus, Flag.

From the RumX RA tastingset. Ah TDL. Lots of berries immidiately in the nose. Some freshness. Nice. Great start. The nose translated 1:1 to taste..lots of cassis! Freshness. Sweet licorice. Bay leaf. Bitter spicy wood. Not as heavy as expected at 67%. Not very surprising either. I hoped to get more tarry/ashy/Caroni notes, but this is a straighforward red fruit bomb. Very chewy.

Beautiful full nose of mint tones, complemented by technical scents, tobacco and tea. Complex taste, creamy smooth full of fresh mint, which transitions into dirty hints. Perfect alcohol integration. Medium finish, offering a light acidity that tightens the tongue.

Mint, black tea, herbs, leather, and wood practically jump into the nose here. Very promising, not very alcoholic on the nose, but fresh. On the palate creamy, and then it gets completely wild. The nerds here will know this, for me it's totally crazy new territory. Woody and herbal, mint that slowly intensifies and finally turns into super intense mint oil. Alongside old wood, hints of umami, a good portion of smoke in the black tea note. On the finish menthol and feels like forever. Dark and dirty, it stays very long. A cautious 0.5 point deduction from me due to 'impresses me heavily', I don't want to aim too high here. Doesn't quite hold the nose's level, then becomes very dry.

A very great TDL with lots of cask influence. Maybe a bit too much!? I find it creates a great interplay of wood, mint, herbs and fruit. The whole thing feels slightly musty. Very intense. Needs only a few cl to entertain for a long time.

Initiated private Trinidad tasting through RumX premium sample (RX 1073) with RX15401, RX 23888 (Planteray Trinidad 2003). ABV higher than Bristol (RX 2073), thus more powerful, while the alcohol is very well integrated. More body and intense, but not as refined subtle nose and taste as RX1073. Peaty ethereal note refreshing and long-lasting. Just right after a hard working day! Also enough for the normal “sample dosing puddle” :-) I like it very much. I know it shouldn't be, but I can do more with this rum, which tastes very much like Caroni, than with the real Caroni (whether sample bottles and whole freshly opened bottle make the difference, I cannot judge).

Beautiful matte bottle under 100€. You can taste the alcohol, but very drinkable. I recommend it even to beginner rum lovers to discover new flavors. Mint from TDL is an unmistakable taste that you will never get tired of.

Tasted three TDLs with barrel aging from 14 to 22 years side by side. This rum and also RX26279 and RX22457. All three bottlings show a nice dark amber color, with this RA bottling clearly the darkest and with 22 years also the longest in the barrel. Very intense aromatic nose. Spicy wood, plus menthol. The hefty 67.1% ABV is well integrated on the nose. Also slight caramel and dried fruits. On the palate a bit hot. Strong barrel notes and wood spices, plus rubber and some roasted aromas. Mint comes only after that. Rich aromatics on the dark side combined with the freshness of menthol and a slightly cheeky bitterness at the end of the long finish. This is not a fresh-fruity TDL representative but a real powerhouse with a slight workshop affinity that grows stronger over time in the glass. I like it very much and it wins in comparison of the three bottlings, but certainly not everybody's darling.

Nose: gourmand, pastry-like, caramel / burnt brown sugar / crème brûlée with tropical fruits (passion fruit) and candied peach. Some citrus (orange / grapefruit), acidic side like tomato sauce wtf. All wrapped in spicy squid style chili / pepper. A hint of menthol. I have a heavy / rubber side that gradually arrives at the expense of freshness. Everything is well balanced, it’s a beautiful nose. Palate: it starts on full rubber then an explosion of spices with a background of candied fruits (passion fruit / peach), hydrocarbons and a bit of acidity. Long and pleasant finish on rubber, acidic (and my tomato sauce comes back).

Incredible menthol power in this rum, perhaps the one with the most menthol I've ever drunk. Tropical fruit and leather follow. Magnificent. The palate is also sublime, like the nose. Menthol, lychee, grass, tea, tobacco. A bomb!
