Uitvlugt (Port Mourant) S.B.S Guyana 1999 PM
A 24-year-old Port Mourant that leans more woody and herbal than the dark, syrupy Demerara many expect. The nose pulls people in — licorice, apple, dried fruit, a little sweetness and lots of oak — but several tasters feel the palate can't quite match it: dry, wood-forward, one reviewer calls it "mild, alcohol integrated but no expression." The oily texture and licorice note are the highlights.

How does Uitvlugt (Port Mourant) S.B.S Guyana 1999 PM taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Dry, woody old Port Mourant with a licorice streak Well-liked overall for its mature, whisky-like oak and integrated proof, though more than a few expected deeper complexity — the finish fades fast for a rum this old.

Well... I don't find this bottling really convincing. It clearly lacks complexity. If the nose is still reasonably convincing, it loses out on the palate. Woodiness and bitterness predominate. Fruit and spices are present, but lose out to the wood. Too bad

Not a bad rum in itself, which brings a lot to the first sip. But unfortunately only briefly at the beginning. Then it seems very one-dimensional and thin and disappears very quickly in the finish as if it had never been there. A disappointing bottling for me.

Tempting smell, but the taste can not quite keep up. Although nice oily texture, but also somehow one-dimensional and somewhat biting. For the average, what the rum offers taste, unfortunately too expensive.

Reminds me more of the 97er PM profile. Overall, it’s already got a lot of wood…
Review by Andi
At the nose first quite pleasant, some wood, a bit of fruit, light sweetness, herbs. On the palate it can't quite convince. Light sweetness, dried fruits, vanilla, many wood notes, licorice and again herbs. On re-tasting I decided on 8.0 instead of 8.2.

#4021 This is a rum in the more expensive range and I think the price is slightly off. A nice rum with fruits and wood as well ans nice spices. ABV is well integrated and I like the licorice note in the profile. The empty glass is more intense on the licorice and wood after a while.
Review by Timo Groeger
A good rum, but like most from Gunnar (thanks for that) pretty intense in taste. Not my favorite rums, but still oj, woody on the nose and on the palate and also quite intense, but still tasty. Honestly expected more.

Tasted against the Rum Nation PM 2001, 18 yo rx4912 This one is more vegetal with herbs, apple and licorice and the Rum Nation rather fruity with pear and anise. The maturity level is nicer in the SBS... for me PMs actually can't stay in the barrel long enough.

Almost a New Yarmouth without esters. Very rounded thing. Has many similarities with good whiskies. Built on water, it flattens out extremely and the alcohol comes out. The 94 NY is still a bit rounder, but only in direct comparison.

Somehow, the nose on a first impression is much on the meaty and vegetable side. Nothing what I like of rum. No fruits, no caramel, no wood and leather. In its kind complex still. Palate? Flat, boring, uninspiring. Finish? Finish? Just not there. A rum without a finish. This is not a PM.
Review by DeMaddin
Fresh nose, with fruit, apple and herbs, slightly fermented, on the palate spicy, woody with a fruity sweetness. Too one-dimensional for me, little that grabs me. Short finish, ABV could be better integrated.
