Diamond El Dorado The Last Casks 1998
Here's the surprise: a 24-year tropically-aged Diamond that smells like glue and ripe yellow fruit at once, with furniture polish and orange peel behind it. One member nails the nose as "gluey-fruity with some bitterness." The palate turns drier and woodier than the nose promises, with herbs, spice and a faintly soapy, metallic edge. Several feel the 49.1% leaves it a touch thin.
- Complex fruity nose
- Classic glue note
- 24-Year tropical age

How does Diamond El Dorado The Last Casks 1998 taste?
Aggregated from 55 community reviews.
Glue-and-fruit nose, drier woody palate Loved for its complex glue-and-fruit nose, but most agree the palate doesn't fully follow through — drier, woodier, slightly unbalanced, and a little thin for the age. Strong nose, divisive mouth.

Lovechild from 2010 Moneymusk MBS & 2006 Foursquare! Super mild & relaxed. Lots of honey, light fresh herbs like lemon verbena and some milk chocolate, as well as kumquat jam and toasted coconut chips. Could be a little more powerful but on the whole it is very tasty and elegant!

Sehr guter schwerer Guyana Rum, sehr intensiv, Alkohol kratzt kein bißchen!

8,6:On the nose, pretty darn nice🙂, as we are impressed with yellow fruits, toasted coconut, roasted wood notes with caramel, dark chocolate and some glue. On aeration, we continue with citrus like an orange peel, spices, dried and tropical fruits, a molasses is vegetal, brings tobacco and black tea. There are nuts and a little menthol. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is tasty with yellow, tropical fruits, roasted wood notes like caramel and milk chocolate, toasted coconut, an orange and spices. The wood quickly overtakes the palate with dryness, heavy spice like cardamom, tannins are quite intense with bitterness, acidity, waxy. There are some metallic notes, the molasses is vegetal....Notes like glue, petrol and menthol don't help rounding the rum.Just vanilla does that. 8,5:The finish is round, still a bit dry, less tannic and spicy.Dried fruits mellow our tasting, so do creamy roasted wood notes and some tea...

Third place within the new trio. The three rums are all well distinguishable from each other, each has a peculiarity. This one I felt somehow "off", as if there was something wrong with him or something was added to him. But you could also say, he has an unmistakable, strong character.Unfortunately, I can not say what irritated me so. I must probably taste again.

heute die drei El Dorado Last Casks im Glas (red, black, gold label). Der rote ein 98er Diamond / Tri-Canada blend. An der Nase etwas verhalten, es kommen getrocknete Früchte, Karamell, Früchtebrot, Politur, Lack Am Gaumen irgendwie ähnlich, malzig-karamellig, Milchschokolade. Ranking: schwarz, gold, rot.

Nose is very nice with loads of coconut (akin to Foursquare) and pineapple. Acompanied by some light notes of citrus zests. Despite its long topical aging, this is very lively and vibrant. Much more wood forwards and dry on the palate. Some dried fruits and herbal notes are lingering in the background. Finish is very dry and adstringent yet not overly bitter.

#4265 16.09.2023 Whisky N Rum Show 2023. I didn't try that many rums on site, but I did manage to taste the last two ot the Last Casks. I still think they're too expensive compared to what you get. This one is a bit more fruity but then has more medicinal and glue notes. The palate is light light and fruity with some added herbal notes. The finish is medium long with some roasted wood, citrus and light coffee. I noticed that the empty glass has some nice caramel notes.

Can you imagine anything better than smelling eucalyptus and glue at the same time? No!

The nose is still the best part of this bottling... caramel, minimal fruit, wood and slight alcohol spiciness rise. The palate comes across as very thin and light, then wood, bitterness, spice and herbs spread out, likewise on the finish. Very late, some prune appears on the finish! finish! The whole seems quite unausgegoren

Light and delicate, floral. You don't feel the proof. It's very smooth

Gluey-fruity with some bitterness
Review by Jakob
Interesting profile, the Demerara DNA is well recognizable. However, the whole thing is not really rounded, because on the one hand the dilution and on the other hand a somewhat astringent-bitter note appears on the palate, which is not extremely pronounced, but still noticeable and does not really fit into the overall picture. Therefore, no comparison to the real grandes from Guyana.

Von allem was dabei. Alkohol passt insgesamt gut.

Great fruity glue nose! On the palate, unfortunately, the first good impression does not quite prevail. Somewhat unround, but not uninteresting, slight soapy off-note, overall unfortunately too diluted.
Review by Serge
Nose and finish quite nice but on the palate first a very strange separating sharpness, like the solvents in superglue. Sounds cool, but is here for me strangely unpleasant. Have that by the way with all three of the series. Not very successful for me. After a few seconds, it's then delicious again.

Review by Benoit Mahe

Very mild, yellow fruits, metallic, herbs, wood, solvent, for me somewhat atypical for Guyana.slightly dirty notes, my first association was first in the direction of Trinidad - Caroni.
