8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get is really nice with typical dark notes like dried fruits with prunes, dates, raisins, dark molasses with black tea, roasted wood notes with burnt sugar, caramel, leather, dark chocolate, spicy vanilla and some orange with varnish flowing hand in hand. On aeration, more citrus is noticed, red fruits, nuts and creamy toffee from wood and brioche. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is very pleasant with dark molasses and dark, roasted wood notes like dark chocolate, caramelized, burnt sugar, coffee, leather and nuts, as the fruits are dried and orange.Very quickly these pleasant balance is demolished with too strong tannins and a petrol note.Luckily a second wave of rounding notes arrive like brioche with honey, nuts, vanilla, dried apricots, prunes and coconut, as the molasses is a bit vegetal, herbaceous, floral. 8,4:The finish is long, a bit imbalanced with dry, tannic wood, luckily dark notes come to help rounding it, new notes to be tasted are cola and marzipan, perhaps dried figs. Edit:22.5.25, an upgrade due to oxidation, 0.1.

Feel weird giving this such a low score, when most others seem to enjoy it. I did not. I thought it was quite awful. Nose was alcoholic. Palate woody and bitter as was the finish. Yuck.

Tasted this limited – Last Casks – Edition at the Sweden Rum Fest 2026. It’s a blend from the Tri-Canada, Port Mourant and the Enmore Stills bottled at cask strength after been aged for 24 years. The nose is fruity, sweet, spicy, nutty, woody, smoky and earthy with scents of raisins, prunes, vanilla, cinnamon and almonds. At the palate it’s elegant, soft, balanced, dry, fruity and sweet with flavors of orange, honey, toffee and dark chocolate. The finish is rather long.

Liquid Paulaner Spezi!😃Very tasty, even if I would never have guessed enmore here, let alone port mourant. Very intense sweet fruity notes almost like a spezi (cola + orange). Keyword cola cacher!

Beautiful, deep color, very oily. Smells very good, somewhat spicier and more tart than the Gold. Warm, strong, very (too) round. I suspect that some sugar has been added here. Let's leave out the "a little"...🎃🎃🎃 Full-bodied and spicy in the mouth. Sweet.🙀 Long finish, slightly tart at the beginning. A very good, too sweet and very drinkable Demerara sipper. PLV 👎, the Rare Collection is simply in a different league.

A rum tasted at Rum Depot in Berlin. A sweet nose of candy sugar, marzipan and tart apple. The palate begins by expressing the acidity sensed on the nose, then the pastry side and a noble bitterness crown this beautiful evolution. The finish is clean, with yellow fruit and noble bitterness, and is quite long. The empty glass is on wood and marzipan.

today the three El Dorado Last Casks in the glass (red, black, gold label). The black one is a 98 PM / Enmore / Tri-Canada blend. Stronger on the nose than its red brother, with more tart fruit, allspice, caramel, and a hint of licorice or brown bread. Barrel, toasty, syrupy sweetness on the palate. Ranking: black, gold, red.

Wonderful heavy rum, still restrained on the nose but then full-bodied and intense on the palate, thick stewed plum jam with caramelized, slightly burnt sugar. Oak and bitter orange in the aftertaste. Very good Guyana rum, the 50% is just right.

#4264 16.09.2023 Whisky N Rum Show 2023. I didn't try that many rums on site, but I did manage to taste the last two ot the Last Casks. I still think they're too expensive compared to what you get. This one is nicely balanced and medium fruity with roasted wood and spices. The palate is oily with an added coffee note. Medium finish with light fruit and caramel. Draws really nice curtains in the glass.

Somewhat more intense than the second 98 Last Cask bottling, because overall rounder and more pleasing. Here, too, there is a lot of Demerara-typical aromas around oak, chocolate and sweet fruit flavors. Overall, however, the dilution is not an advantage here either. Pleasing, quaffable, but not a bottling that could raise the pulse of the Demerara nerd.

The 2nd of the 3 Last. Another wonderful age, 24 years tropical. Nose: very complex and dense, almost a little closed at the beginning. Great dark-sweetish, fruity-woody and spicy aromas. Here again the pleasant sweet glue with polish and maple syrup Tropical, with coconut and papaya, but also dried apricot, dark cherry, blackberry. Slight acidity from dried redcurrant or a dash of red wine. Milk chocolate and plenty of vanilla from the bourbon barrel. Very round. 8.9 Palate: oh, interesting. Dark-roasted and malty-sweet, but when the rum enters the throat, there's a sour, sharp and dull undertone, which is a little irritating, but then dissolves deliciously. What remains is passion fruit and chocolate, orange and fatty pecan. This gives it a slightly bacony taste. Great flavor curve, fun. 8,6 Everything actually fits together here. The alcohol is well integrated for me, the fullness of the aromas is great, the sample is empty before I can decode everything... the acidity is a little annoying, but that doesn't matter. PLV fits.

(Labeling error on the samples so I don't know which 98 I'm tasting, the diamond or the enmore. The enmore is plausible, but so is the diamond 😅) The nose is pleasant: coconut, vanilla, cooked cane sugar, cask, borderline a little minty freshness put very light. . Then it evolves with the arrival of citrus fruit. On the palate, it's good, but not very complex and a little bitter in the end. This is what prevents it from rising to the level of its Sheldon/Albion/CBH brothers, who are clearly above it.

Nose 10/10, first taste 10/10. And you know I am strict. Then a small downgrade, the spirit alcohol takes control, but still - great rum! ... Enmore - a driving distillery, now only a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have flavors of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excite lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very strong and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.

Nose is dominated by wood, leather and roasted notes. The long tropical aging definately showing some (dark) teeth here. On the palate this one is the best one out of the series for me. The darker and herbal notes work pretty good with the strong woody notes. Most complex expression out of the last casks.

For me, this is the best of "The Last Casks". Very round and absolutely delicious on the nose. Super drinking strength, goes down like oil. Super combination of vanilla, heavy dark sweetness, roasted aromas, fruit and chocolate. On the palate, the rum tends a little too much towards bitter herbs and dry wood. The finish could be a little longer, but otherwise bravo!

I really enjoyed discovering this rum, it made me want to explore the very old Guyana rums. On the nose it already expressed itself as well woody and humid but not unpleasant as I've known before. Burnt sugar, roasted. The attack on the palate presents a bitterness due to the humid wood, I think of root, but it stops quite quickly before it becomes annoying. Then comes a strong oily indulgence around dark chocolate, leather, brown sugar caramel, raisins. A beautiful woody chocolate finish. Note the viscosity when you see how it coats the glass!

These last casks are quite impressive, they have a distinctive polish flavor. This one has additionally caramel, wood, vanilla and some dried fruits. The palate shows some bitter orange as well. They can sometimes be found for a good price, I think they're worth it.

Quite heavy on the dark chocolate notes. After a while you get some tropical fruits in the background, so it's worth waiting. on the nose I feel like the alcohol is not perfectly integrated, while also being touch light in taste, possibly due to reduction. Curious to see how it evolves now that the bottle is open.

On the nose, there's a pleasant dark demerara profile. More Enmore than PM. On the palate, there's still no PM, but a warm profile with a fine balance between fruitiness and pastry sweetness. The whole is pleasant but not expressive enough to seduce me.

Let this rum sit in the glass for a good while and then you are starting to get those familiar notes on the nose. On the nose: Woody, roasted notes and caramel dominate. I get hints raisins and other dried fruits here and there. Little bit of vanilla there aswell. For me, its quite mild on the nose. Taste: Roasted woody oak notes. Under that there is roasted coffee, hints of orange and honey. Quite dry. Quite easy and pleasant mouthfell. Round. Finish: Roasted, woody oak notes. Dark chocolate. Higher abv and therefore stronger flavours would have probably increased the score. This sits more on the woody, drier side of the demerera rums i have tasted to far. Not a all night sipper for me, but quite good as session rum.

Heavy in the American Oak in the nose. Literally heavy. After some time the lightness of the PM shines through..but subtle. Taste: not so heavy now. Still oaky and tannins but also an interesting sweet/sour/dry balance- red wine and cherry. Some leather. Tobacco. The sweet and sour really sticks. In the finish like the sourness an espresso can have with a certain bean/preparation.

15/03/25: tasted @ Brussels Rhum Festival. Note: I was experiencing severe palate fatigue. I tasted all three El Dorado Last Casks (black, red and gold) at the same time. Nice dark PM and Enmore blend, but probably I should revisit these again when my palate is in better condition.

Brussels Rhum Festival 15/03/2025 Beautifull stuff! I'm in love. Tasted The Last Cask black, gold and red next to eachother. Best rums of the day for sure. The bitterness in this one is not for everyone though.

Sample from Brussels Rhum Festival, tasted blind… & wow! Crazy rich dark fruit woody + zesty citrus on the nose; a sweet juicy fruit, tropical bonbons, and custard tart on the palate; and a dry, spiced finish with hints of tobacco, vanilla… super balance of age lingering fruit & acidic backbone.. & there’s even a slight weird vegemite & fusel notes that just adds interest, only negative the finish can be really heavy on the wood spice.

Nose: Clearly stronger and more complex than the El Dorado 21. Beautiful barrel spice, oak, and dark fruits are at the forefront. There is also a heavy, dark sweetness, some caramel, and very light esters in the background. The color and nose immediately give the impression of a mature, concentrated Demerara rum. Palate: Very oily and noticeably fuller-bodied than the 21. Spicy oak, dark dried fruits, and a heavy, well-integrated sweetness meet caramel, dark chocolate, and a slight ester touch. The wood is clearly present but not too dominant; the rum remains very well-balanced despite its maturity. Finish: Long, warm, and harmonious. Dark fruits, caramel, oak, spice, and the oily texture linger for a long time. The finish is significantly longer and more intense than the El Dorado 21. Conclusion: A very successful, mature Demerara with more punch, depth, and length than the El Dorado 21. I really like the combination of oily texture, dark fruit, caramel, wood, and well-measured sweetness. Not cheap, but clearly a different league in the glass compared to the regular El Dorado bottlings.

It needs to steam off a bit before drinking. Starts off alcoholic but fades to caramel and a bit of wood and leather. The taste is more in the same direction. I think it's a good and quite easy to drink rum.
