Another rum from my new favorite distillery Grays. And this rum does not disappoint at all, the opposite is the case: he inspires (me)! Just look at the color of the rum in the bottle! 😍 Wonderfully dark, hard to believe in a rum from the year 2009. (Was there but helped?) Anyway, a very, very pleasant-balanced rum, deep, spicy, fruity, the for me identity-creating currant note may not be missing. Round thing, alcohol well integrated, acceptable PLV - recommendation especially for all who like to walk off the beaten path.

This Grays is not my cup of tea, the nose is quite restrained and on the palate a strong bitter licorice hit is too dominant for me.

Rum Mauritius is still flying under the radar, but this one has already been "drunk up". Unfortunately, because it's very good! Wonderfully drinkable with a decent but pleasant woodiness, sweet fruit and cherry en masse. The mouthfeel is oily and creamy. A super rum!

In a cross-tasting with other Grays, it ended up somewhere in the middle. The nose has a slightly different profile than usual, as I don't detect apricot/peach or mint, but rather floral notes and spices. On the palate, spices are joined by peach and mint again. I like it very much, but for me it doesn't stand out from the crowd like, for example, the LMDW 2009 #395. Edit: I liked it a little better when I tried it again. Slight Savanna vibes due to the berry notes.

8,8:On the nose, roasted wood notes with cocoa, spicy allspice, tons of Port/armagnac fruits like black berry, berries, cherries, grapes, currants, raisins, citrus fruits and banana, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, prunes, dried apricots, mandarine and grapefruit are out, molasses is dark with licorice, black tea, flowery, leather, roasted nuts and caramelized burnt sugar join. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is sweet, syrupy, thick with fresh, minty, herbaceous molasses, dark with licorice and black tea, fruits like blackcurrant, raisins, cherry, berries, dried apricots, raisins and prunes, some grapefruit, as the wood is roasted with dark chocolate, pastry, nuts, leather, spicy with allspice.Barrrel impact is strong. 8,7:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with strong barrel impact and notes from palate lingering on. In my mouth I have the association of a cherry lollipop from my childhood. Very pleasant to drink. Alcohol hardly noticeable or not noticeable at all. Just find it super pleasant. Various rums from Mauritius were tested, which were split into a larger set. Thank you very much for this amazing split Gunnar.

The intense influence of the barrel blends harmoniously and is perfectly balanced with the fine distillate. Oak with spice and depth meets fruity aromas of sour cherries, black currants, and peaches. I particularly love the development in the mouth with the accompanying cola nut note. Added to this is a natural, not exaggerated basic sweetness of raisins and a subtle mint freshness. I like it very much!

Great Mauritius rum with exciting notes, lots of earthy-plant notes, but also leathery licorice notes. Very exciting with fantastic complexity, with very well integrated 53.7% alcohol. Yum!

#4020 This was a nice surprise. A very dark rum with nice fruits and wood. I like the light minty note in the profile and the empty glass reveals sweet notes of the moscatel cask.

I really like this Mauritius because it brings so many berries and red fruits. On the nose I get dried fruits, wood, cherry, blackberry, vanilla and cocoa. Great spices and licorice are followed by currant, raisins and red grape. On the palate it comes very soft and pleasant thanks to the well-integrated 53.7%. At first wood, black currant, raisins, cherries and again pleasant spices with vanilla. Then cola, dark chocolate, licorice and allspice followed by herbs. The medium to long finish is characterized by wood, barrel influence again licorice and spices. Then come raisins, dried fruits, berries and even some honey. In the end remain cola herb, tannins, herbs and black tea. The aroma is very pleasant and drinks buttery smooth. I can only recommend it. Thanks for the good sample :D

New Grove. I love New Grove. Let's see what the Moscatel cask finish did. In the nose it's heavy on red fruits. Fortified wine/port. Cherry coke. But also the typical NG freshness; menthol and eucalyptus. Some French oak-armagnac flavours. Good! Lets dive in. More licorice/bay leaf in taste. Still fruity but different. More spices. Madeira wine. Bitter and woody/oaky in the aftertaste. Interesting. It might be a bit unbalanced but the fresh nature of the NG spirit keeps it up. I'm a NG fan so they can't really do much wrong. You have to like wood/tannins a lot for this one.

An impressive one, very complex and fruity with lots of different types of wood used for aging. It has a classic Grays flavour profile with intensive dark fruits, wood and even some slightly minty notes in the finish. The only problem is that there were only 305 bottles made. 🙈

Dessert, alcohol content around 40%, but the taste is full. It seems to me as if I have drunk it before, but I cannot place it.

Delicious drop. Sweetness and dried fruit on the nose (prunes, raisins), leather, licorice and cherry on the nose. On the palate spice, licorice, leather, wood, raisins, cherry and dark chocolate. A long finish of spice, dark chocolate, licorice, prunes, wood and black tea. Great combination of rich flavours. A big hitter for the very reasonable price.

very interesting rum, the profile on the nose could be Jamaika, lots of fruits and a hint of polish, but with the cherry notes completely different and subtle. Regrettably it losses a bit on the palate and provides a long finish of wood and cherry. Nice

This brought me back to a place in Slovakia I used to live. Especially to berries I used to pick :) Currants, wild strawberries. If you told me this is the one and only drink I had to drink throughout my life, I would be pleased. Drunk but pleased.

Similarity to the two CdI on the nose, some wood stain and sweetness. Then wood, sweetness and cherry on the palate, some freshness. The freshness is less pronounced than in the two CdI, but more cherry and sweetness. Not particularly complex for my taste. For the money, I would rather go for the two CdI.

At first glance, I thought it would be Zacapa, but I can smell a lot of fruit, such as blackcurrant, and taste bon pari forest fruit candies — blackcurrant complemented by the woodiness of the barrel... The color is very dark. The rum has a balanced taste, with the alcohol very well integrated into the flavor and a longer finish.

Wow. What a surprise. Dark mahogany color, beautiful legs, and slowly runs down the glass. Heavy wood and sherry aroma, but no strong scent. Very pleasant wood and sherry flavor. Very good rum!
