Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Classic HTR profile, with sweet vanilla, caramel and dried fruit notes on the nose. On the palate, the sweetness is once again quite present, with typical Caroni HTR flavors and a fairly present bitterness on the finish. The alcohol is also not fully integrated. A great rum, but still only in the lower mid-range of the Velier Caronis.

A sample offered at GRF 24. A rather discreet nose with lots of yellow fruits, apple and pear. Also a vegetal side, dry herbs. Quite discreet mechanical workshop notes, mostly rubber. The mouth is full with lots of rubber, tar, barrel and pear. But not much else. And the aromas fade quite quickly. The finish is nevertheless long, on rubber, wood and pear. Quite monolithic. The empty glass however is surprisingly complex and rich. Maybe it needs a lot of oxidation to express itself. Retasted and it seems better, more assertive with oxidation.

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing rum at the height of its fame, which was added in a ratio of 1:10 to naval blends. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000 the distillery ended production and was closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die." I recommend it, Caroni is really a unique rum.
