Glue and solvent hit first, then dark cherry, cocoa, coffee and roasted oak — a Martinique agricole that drinks more like an old cognac or sherried whisky than a grassy young rhum. Aged 17+ years at cask strength, it's intense and very woody. Most tasters are won over; a few find the oak and tannins pushed a touch far.

A rum tasted at the WLP and in Cologne. A warm nose with walnut, Cementit, old hemp rope and, above all, rapeseed flowers. A fairly lively attack on the palate, with leather, glue and wood, followed by fruit, yellow fruit and apple. A long, elegant finish. A fine rum, all elegance except on the attack and the finish, which is a little too bitter.

Edit: Tasted again and the good rating remains. Very fine rum Tasted together in the small spontaneous round of the Franconian Tasting Gang. It really picked me up. Thanks again to Rodolphe who split it back then.

Solid agricole at a high drinking strength. Initially a lot of glue on the nose, then a pleasant blend of spices, chocolate, nougat, wood and subtle vegetal notes. The alcohol remains recognizable on the palate, alongside dried fruit, cherries, lemon, spices, chocolate with a hint of nougat, barrel notes. Nice release, high quality, but it doesn't quite come close to the other Vintage Brut de Fût releases of recent years.

Vieux Bally's nose is marked by tangy red fruits such as redcurrants and blackcurrants, and even raspberry vinegar. These aromas mask the very dark side of this rum. On the palate, the aromas follow on from one another, starting with tart red fruit and gradually increasing in intensity, before turning abruptly to darker flavors: cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts and plenty of spice. The finish is medium to long, with darker aromas. This rum needs a lot of time to open up. A price that seems to me very fair for an agricole of this level and age, given what's being released today...

What a beguiling nose: fruity soft (cherry) with a scent of roses, vanilla and barrel, wonderful . The palate presents itself much more powerful. If it is still creamy on the palate, it increasingly gains wood, allspice and something bitter. Later, a cherry aroma develops again. The finish is initially dominated by wood, tannins and espresso, but again, after some time the cherry flavor. This is a very good Agricole, which , with better integrated alcohol could well have advanced into the 90 range

On aeration, raisins, citrus and coconut arise, flowery sugarcane, vanilla, allspice and hazelnuts. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is intense with solvents, but tasty with fruits like prunes, cherries, later coconut, dried apricots and citrus fruits, roasted wood notes like coffee, nuts and chocolate, confectionery, quite spicy with pepper and vanilla, the sugarcane is flowery and mineral. 8,7:The finish is long, dry and tannic, the cane is flowery, mineral, the wood roasted, dark with various notes like cocoa, coffee and nuts, spicy with cinnamon, vanilla and pepper, the fruits are dried with prunes and raisins. #4033 This is a very well balanced rum and I think the price is more than fair on this bottle. Fruity and kind of soft on the nose despite the ABV. I love the roasted wood notes and also the floral touch to the profile. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has light leather and coffee notes.

Brutally intense, almost dirty agricole. Cassis, prune, sour cherry and dried fruit meets mint, some bitter black tea, vanilla pulp and cassia cinnamon, strong mocha and dark chocolate. Extremely unusual but also almost typical of Bally!😁

A superb brut de fût rum with everything to please. The nose is voluptuous, gourmand with spices, cocoa and coffee, slightly agricultural with sugarcane aromas, elegant with a lovely woodiness and delicate with discreet fruitiness. A harmonious rum on the olfactory level. On the palate, an intense, complex and subtle rum is revealed. Beautiful roasted notes of walnut and coffee join spices, wood and tannins, while floral, agricultural and fruity flavors add freshness and aromatic variety. The alcohol is superbly well integrated. The long finish is darker and drier than the rest of the profile. Prunes and spices provide a warm, gourmand and comforting profile. A well-balanced rum, full of finesse, well-controlled and without the slightest hint of aggressiveness. An excellent reference in the top-range of agricultural rums, at a relatively affordable price.

Beautiful. Not a standard farmhouse. It can't leave you indifferent.chiseled woody, very surprising glue/solvent background, freshly ground coffee.In the mouth, it's powerful but the woody channels the aromas of cherry, coffee, glue.Very very good.

Nice Agricole, a bit different as solvent and glue are clearly recognizable here. But otherwise typical Agricole notes, very spicy and woody, vanilla and a light sweetness are recognizable here.

Tasted this fantastic vintage rum at the Rhum Fest Paris 2026 limited to just 2500 bottles. The nose is spicy, roasted, woody and fruity with scents of vanilla, solvents, glue, oak, stone fruit, plum, peaches, cherry and raisins. At the palate it’s elegant, smooth, tannic, tangy, woody, fruity, nutty, spicy and roasted with flavors of tropical fruits, walnut, leather, coffee, cocoa. The finish is very long.

Great nose with "want to have" effect! A fruity Agricole with strong adhesive notes. On the palate then but much too woody for my taste. Left a little too long in the barrel.... I still have an unopened bottle of the Brut de Fut 2007 and goffe there on the same profile with less wood.

Awesome Treil with a beautiful glue nose with bourbon and agricole. Tastes great to me. Lovely stone fruit/marzipan note on the palate. Tried again today and I could still dive into that glue nose.

Discovered at the Limoges Spirits Festival 2025. 👃 First woody, vanilla and pot glue approach. Then, it's the turn of dried and red fruits to lead the dance, with a beautiful note of eau-de-vie cherries, blackberries and plums. The wood is just behind and structures everything, vanilla, dried nuts, pepper, roasted oak barrel, dark side of the force. We finish with a bit of wildflowers and wood care products. 😋 Woody profile, intense and bitter. Lots of barrel influence, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, leather, black pepper. Dry sweetness on dried (prunes) and red fruits (cherries). An aspect of old grape eau-de-vie, some notes of solvents and flower essences. ⛳ Long, warm, bitter and still dark. Barrel, vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, cocoa, coffee, leather. Agricultural appearance on candied sugar cane. 💡 A Bally offering a dark, complex and evolving profile. I really liked this 2004 vintage which stands out among the distillery's latest bottlings.

This rum is fully present even after a short time in the glass. Glue, nougat and blackcurrant. On the palate it is very woody, a bit too much for me. Also astringent and dry. But it also brings an exciting lemon note. For my taste, it could have come out of the barrel a bit earlier into the bottle. In the finish, however, it turns into a very pleasantly bitter cocoa note. The longer I sip it, the more I like it.

On the nose it is definitely fragrant and intense with notes of leather/toasting, cocoa, enameled wood (which I love), red fruits and apricot jam. On the palate it is fresh and pungent with the same consistent aromas as the nose and an addition of green pepper and a slightly mentholated finish, with a small creamy sweet note. Thanks to Roberto for the sample. It oscillates between 9 and 9.1.

Needs a lot of aeration because otherwise it approaches the classic dark plank juice of Bally's. Very drying on the finish and I prefer the more gourmet profiles found at Saint James.

Update 18/07/2026: rum tasting @ Stijn. Score remains 8.8. 08/11/2025: tasted @ Spirits In The Sky 2025. I love an aged Agricole from time to time, and this was no different. It has matured for 18 years in ex-Cognac barrels. Beautiful dry, warm, dark, spicy rum. Recommended!

During my visit to the Rhum Fest, I was able to taste this J. Bally. It was one of the three rums I tasted during the day. It is as intense on the nose as on the palate: the notes are not discreet. Rather fruity on the nose, it reveals itself much more woody on the palate. A very good rum, I recommend it.

Very good profile. But this is to powerful. Full of varnish/glue. Very dry. I like those j bally with 45% or less. טעימה רוחבית מאוד מעניין אבל פשוט חזק מידיי. מלא דבק. מאוד חזק ויבש. יש תפוז. יש עשב. יש מורכבות מסויימת שוקולד שהופך לפירות בשלים. אבל החיספוס כל כך חזק. בהחלט נגס ב3-4 עשיריות הנקודה.

Wow, highly unusual to me. You get the grassy core of a Agricole, but paired with much darker, woody & roasted aromas. Wet hay and dark chocolate. Well balanced and great alcohol integration. Wonderful!

At first, a slight off-note on the nose that fades over time. On the palate very ripe and intense, you can feel the age. Great agricole, but for me it doesn't reach the top bottlings, e.g. from 2006.

Great nose, very fruity, nice woodiness, mild spices and vanilla, a bit floral. I could spend hours on it. On the palate, it's more austere, very woody, quite a bit of spice that brings a little kick, the alcohol is quite present. The fruits are more in the background. Fairly long finish, quite a bit of bitterness.

Beautiful intensity and richness. An astringent but subtle woodiness, the alcohol carries the aromas throughout the tasting. A finish on spices, cherry eau-de-vie and prunes. Excellent.

This really excells as being almost aged over the top in the tropical climate. Theres is certain type of intensity. That's just tipical of how rum, develops and that kind of climate. That's why you all so get some glue and ester notes, which will not remind everyone of Jamaica but it still there.
