Opinion splits on this 28-year Enmore: fans love the fresh, herbal nose with pencil shavings, cocoa and chocolate, plus a light dried-fruit sweetness. But plenty of tasters call it too thin and diluted, wishing they'd bottled it at cask strength. It's a lighter, gentler Versailles-still Guyana rum, far from the usual dark and heavy Enmores.

Cross Tastinge across 12 bottlings of 1990 Versialles destilled Enmores. Looking at the reduced bottlings (Alamein, RN, Moon). On the nose all can hold up predatory good with the higher ABv bottlings. The RN finis is well executed, while somewhat overwhelming the Versailles notes. Still nice. Alambic with a nice basket of continental fruits and Moon delivering all classic notes beautifully. On the palate all three are very approachable with RN‘s finish again being very noticeable and present - for me a bit too intense. Despite the reduction, the Alambic carries some sting while providing intensity. The Moon bottling adds quite some sweetness, yet also noctiable burnt notes in the background.

Thanks first to Alex_Kunath for the split, otherwise I probably would never have dealt with so many 90s Enmores. I'm currently torn whether the first two I tried are really my world.

No.1 of the blind tasting of the 1990 Enmore: I perceive a lot of herbs and spices on the nose. The same goes for the palate, but the ABV is obviously quite low, so the aromas are not very intense. It's definitely too thin for me

Community Tasting Enmore 1990 VSG/MEV as blind tasting. Rum1: On the nose, fig, pine nuts, grape pomace, some almond and citrus peel in addition to lead pencil and wood. Also a little charred on the palate. Community Tasting Enmore 1990. No 1. A very fresh, herbal and floral nose. With pineapple, pear, fig and a gourmand side. Far from the usual dark and heavy Enmores. On the palate, the freshness and finesse of the nose are found again. The fruits develop and then it’s already over. The finish is rather short but fruity, fresh and almond aromas remain long on the palate. The wood is present but light. A very feminine rum, pleasant and fresh.

09.11.2019 Had a nice evening with friends and bottles wrapped in tinfoil ☺️ Notes. Light in colour. Nose: wood, roasted, licorice, caramel, plum, herbs. Palate: fresh, wood, roasted, dried fruit, licorice, chocolate herbs. Finish: medium to long, light, wood, roasted, raisin, chocolate.

RumX Community Tasting - Enmore 1990 (thanks to Alex!) Yes, the profile fits, the obligatory pencil shavings and herbs are there. But it is too thin, too weak, little complex. The bottom of the tasting.

Many thanks to Alex for organizing the community tasting. Very interesting to have the different rums if the same year and profile, and I hope I will not need another 2 months to post about the last one here. Very light in color this first rum had a long time to breathe, and I added some drops of water. I find wood and malt notes dominating, the mouthfeel a bit thin (but, alas, it is not full proof). I get a bit initial sweetness in the beginning, a hint of fruit and a lot of malt towards the finish. The nose is... Very shy. Wood and a bit of sour alcohol fumes. This first one ist not a favorite of the bunch, not bad, but also a bit one dimensional, unfortunately. I believe it lost some of its potential due to the dilution.

Feels very accessible, the reduced drinking strength works very well – the profile shows the typical Enmore/VSG markers. Correspondingly well recognizable minerality, the infamous pencil shavings are very clear. The cask influence is also noticeable, as well as dark spice notes and a pleasant residual sweetness that subtly reminds of dried fruits. Overall a very nice rum for relaxed enjoyment on a high level.

Lots of floral, pencil, herbs on the nose - a bit of dried fruit and then some wood. Taste-wise a soft but nonetheless flavorful Enmore that doesn't impose itself. On the finish, one would wish for more persistence.

Blend from a nearly unknown bottler, this Enmore has more than one trick in its still. The nose is fresh, herbal, woody like pencil lead and sprinkled with shimmering spices on star anise, licorice, vanilla, and pepper. The leather, coffee, and dark chocolate, typically darker, are rather "light" here with a nice fruitiness on dried fruits (apricot). The nose is soft and round. The dilution is slightly noticeable on the palate, but the texture remains round, soft, and pleasant. You find the spices (anise, licorice, chili, vanilla) warming the mouth, dried fruits (raisin), the wood impregnated with dark notes of cocoa, coffee, and leather but also (and especially) the typical herbal aromas of the Versailles still. The whole is pleasantly aromatic for the stated strength. It's a nice gustatory surprise combining fragrance and finesse. The finish is quite long and adorned with woody and herbal notes. It releases a warmth from the spices that contrasts with the freshness of the herbs. The dried fruits (raisin) fade gradually. There is a malty smell that lingers in the mouth and extends a finish that is both soft, light, and fragrant. A nice little rum that would have been great to taste without dilution to know its full potential.

Guyana Tasting 1990 by Alex. All rums were aired for 30 minutes, equal rights for all :-) Number 1 doesn't really suit my taste. The alcohol is very present both on the nose and on the palate. Flavor-wise, it comes across quite flat.

Bottle Guyana forever as they say. So many releases and crazy variety. I've heard about this bottle several times that it's great for its price. But I think this is a classic case where dilution didn't do it any favors. Very light rum and not so powerful. That's part of its charm. Herbal. Fruits. Slight sulfur. Candies. Apples. Honey. Interesting and very surprising, takes time to get to Guyana here.

The Enmore is very impressive with a peculiar character that's hard to describe. The start feels a bit thin and the drinking strength makes the rum seem almost light. But it brings intense aroma and complexity you wouldn't expect at first. Especially since the finish is tasty and long! A bit more alcohol would surely be interesting, but as it is, it's still not uninteresting. Very nice experience.

Nose: Fresh and herbal as well as cocoa, chocolate and wood, pleasing. Palate: A cocoa and chocolate bomb at the beginning, very intense, pleasing. Herbs still present to a lesser extent. Nuts, dried fruit and woody aromas mingle with it. Finish: warm, harmonious and very pleasing Conclusion: appealing due to its intense chocolate and coffee aromas, although these could be more persistent. Diluted a little too much. Above all, the freshness and herbal notes on the nose set it apart from the rest of the comparison group. A top rum.
