I have several Balcones spirits, a very stable brand with good sprites. Definitely recommend to try their rum and whisky. This is a very pleasant rum. It seems a bit colored, but both smell and taste are very pleasant. Aging on bourbon oak is very recognizable alcohol could is a bit prominent, but is acceptable compared to the ABV. Recommend trying this rum.

#4255 16.09.2023 Whisky N Rum Show 2023. A rather whisky like rum. Not bad and the price tag is pretty OK. Fruity with a smoky note and light mint. ABV could have been better integrated. There was a light coffee note in the empty glass.

A very intense and affordable rum from Texas. On the nose I have lots of fruit, spices, some woodiness as well as tobacco and caramel. The bottle has been open for almost two years but has settled little and is therefore still woody and a bit sharp on the palate. Again fruit, vanilla, caramel as well as cappuccino and dark chocolate. Something towards cola and tobacco is also noticeable. The spicy, medium-length finish is characterized by fruit, spices, roasted caramel, cask notes and tannins. After the nose one could also confuse it with Ecuador. All in all really good.

Typical for Balcones, the barrel interaction and play with oak play a big role here. However, the spirit has a spicy chili sharpness that I’m not used to from their pot still rum. Otherwise, the usual fine oak aromas with cocoa, vanilla, and coconut are present and naturally combine with the molasses distillate. From the background, tropical dried fruits like papaya and mango peek through in interplay with cherry and kola nut… Doctor Pepper Cola? Compared to another batch I know, it seems lighter and doesn’t have that exciting, subtly dirty note of a regularly frequented but clean gym floor. A bit too sharp; water can tame it, and if you like or want to get to know the American whisky style of the distillery in rum form, you can definitely try this.

A very interesting rum, alcohol really well integrated, expected it to be worse. Otherwise, this is a very toasty and smoky rum. But also wood and the cask clearly come through.

A gently smoked caramel candy with a slight fruit note - has something distinctive, which is absolutely positive to note. The complexity is still rather manageable, but what remains is a very drinkable rum that arouses curiosity about what to expect from Richland in the future.

A smell of raisin, slightly overripe cantaloupe melon, candied cherry and vanilla sugar. A light whiff of glue. The taste brings chocolate and nuts, but also a spiciness from the wood which is very similar to a rye. More hazelnut in the finish.

USA, the promised land of whisky, can also do rum. Of course I know Privateer, Bayou, but still it's not a very usual destination. The young distillery Balcones is better known for producing whisky, but once a year they decide to take a break and make something proper. Molasses, pot still, oak barrels, cask strength and no added flavors. Balcones Texas Rum, 59.6% Nose: beautifully fragrant wood, then citrus, spices, caramel, vanilla, lightly coconut, nuts, latte, when the rum calms down in the glass, fresh fruit juice shows up, the alcohol strength is not noticeable in the nose at all Empty glass smells cereal-like Taste: alcohol is noticeable and similar to the nose, wood, caramel, sweet spices and I would say whisky notes, but I don't have much experience, but it suggests itself.
