Here's the surprise: the Oloroso barely shows up. This is a young DOK Hampden, so expect the full ester assault — nail polish, solvent, fermented pineapple and banana — with the sherry adding just a faint vermouth-and-honey edge and a touch more acidity. Several tasters call it the weakest of the four-cask 2020 series, mostly because the alcohol still reads raw and unintegrated.

8,5:On the nose, esters, solvents, nail polish, some rubber, fermented tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, citrus fruits with lemon, strong barrel impact, briny olive, flowery molasses, roasted, smoky wood with chocolate, spicy with baking spices, intense, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, dairy notes are out, red and dried fruits like raisins, marmelade like, soap, cream toffee, caramelized, leather. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is intense with medicinal notes like esters, solvents, fermented tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, red fruits with strawberry, sour cherry, citrus fruits, slightly astringent, syrupy, dried fruits, later papaya, lemon and orange, roasted wood notes with caramel, pastry, burnt sugar, caramelized, some bacon, spicy with allspice, as the molasses is dark with licorice, vegetal with briny olive, grassy.Oloroso barrel is obvious, but goes nicely with rum. 8,2:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, with notes from the palate lingering on. Compared to the other releases in the series, it seems somewhat duller, more restrained and even a little "mustier" due to the Oloroso influence. Interesting experiment, even here the alcohol is still clearly marked, the swing into the heavy fruit aroma offers an exciting taste experiment - even if it doesn't completely convince me.

And the last one from the S.B.S 2020 DOK series. These ester bombs are exactly my thing. Here, of course, esters, esters and more esters. Plus tropical fruits and pineapple. Simply great.

And now the third DOK, now in oloroso barrel... Nose: of course, again intense esters. Can not be otherwise. Here lemon is still before pineapple. And it goes more in the direction of solvent than glue. There is slightly more sweetness than with a Virgin Oak. But everything is perfectly in balance. 8,0 Palate: very close to port. Intense, esters without end, astringent at the start, sweet and sour pineapple, bacony texture. And some honey underscores the sweet impression. Pairs well together. 8,2 I've noticed it before: a DOK can "put away" a wide variety of finishes very well. While the sherry finishes in particular bother me more with other rums, it actually works quite well here.

Significantly sweeter with even more acidity than the virgin oak. Overall also a little more bacony, more syrupy and much fruitier. Nevertheless, the oloroso sherry doesn't stand up to the DOK here, so I don't really understand the point behind such a cask experiment.

Experimental Cask Series - Sample #1: Very intense Hampden, with esters dominating everything. Alongside this are tropical fruits, especially pineapple and solvents. The alcohol is clearly noticeable, with only a marginal influence from the cask. As with most experiments with different casks, the whole thing should be given more storage time, especially with a DOK. The base product is very good and saves the rating.

On the nose: Mild esters, solvents, fruity notes and baking spice notes create the nose profile. There is some citrus notes like lemon in there too. Taste: Esters, pineapples and light syrupy mouthfeel at first. Then it starts to feel alcoholic, sour and acidic with citrus and dried fruit notes. Finish: Acidic with esters, tropical fruits and some spice note. Not bad, but this one should have stayed in the barrel for longer and the integration of alcohol should have also been better

I have to say I'm positively surprised by the little guy, nice fruity ester notes with great funk. Light marzipan honey notes. The Oloroso cask has more acidity than PX and nicely rounds off the Doc, alcohol is also well integrated

I am such a DOK fan and like everything that tastes a bit perverse, so the rating is accordingly. Of course you can taste that he is still very young and untamed, however, the Oloroso barrel already git with such a wormwood note in the finish again and there he is very mild. On the nose it reminds me a bit of speculoos and on the palate it has nice DOK esters

Online Tasting with Joshua Singh: A very nice variation of hampden a bit sweeter, still nicely rounded and typical hampden. Sweeter on the 👅 but also very spicy which sets this apart from the others.
