Fermented pineapple, nail polish and buckets of ester come out of the glass first — this is DOK doing what DOK does. The PX cask adds a marzipan-honey sweetness and a faint smoky, dried-fruit edge, though several tasters say the sherry stays quiet and one found it a touch too much. At 57% the alcohol reads well integrated for most. Loud, fruity, and a little young.

8,4:On the nose, esters and nail polish, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, red fruits, gooseberries, like a marmelade, some citrus fruits, roasted wood notes like marzipan, caramel, roasted nuts, smoky, spicy with vanilla, briny olive, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses becomes flowery, herbaceous, sherry notes are stronger with dried fruits, buttery, sweet cream toffee, cookie dough arise. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is intense with esters, nail polish, rubber, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, red fruits and with sherry, dried fruits, like a marmelade, astringent with fermented notes like vinegar, the molasses is flowery, candied, herbaceous, vegetal with briny olive, sweet with honey, as the wood is roasted with butterscotch, pastry, spicy. 8,3:The finish is rather long, dry&tannic, with notes of sherry pairing overripe tropical, red fruits, esters and rubber, buttery, creamy roasted wood notes, spicy, smoky. DOK is really cool... and beautiful... and if a rum can stand any other kind of barrel maturation, then it's DOK. That's why I'm going to keep an open mind... Nose: Ester without end. No question about it. Plus the typical pineapple and banana as well as lemon. Marzipan sweetness is not missing either. The PX lends a pleasant smoky note and transforms the otherwise fine glue and something thicker, towards nail polish. What can I say, it harmonizes. 8,1 Palate: intense esters!!! Initially astringent then grilled pineapple, closely followed by intense sweetness, like from sugar syrup or candied something. Very clearly due to the PX. A little too much sweetness and PX for me. 7,7

Experimental Cask Series - Sample #4: Strong similarities between the pre-filled barrels. In this one, the alcohol is best integrated and the tropical fruits are more pronounced than the esters. Wood is slightly noticeable.

Interesting blend, the sweet-sour aroma of tropical fruit stars and sweet sherry can work much better, as shown by the Pagos releases. Shows very clear alcohol aromas. Seems too young and unbalanced to me.

Very nice Hampden. Right away I get esters and also sugar on the nose. I really love that smell. On the palate it is also very intense and slightly alcoholic. Alcohol well integrated. Delicious.

This is the one from the 1423 2020 DOK series that I expected the most because I like Peter Siemens barrels and the one that disappointed me the most. Sure, the typical awesome DOK profile - fermented pineapple, cookies, even more esters, a bit of wood on the nose. On the palate mainly the DOK esters, and already a very slight hint of sherry cask - but you really have to taste carefully. And the finish is relatively unspectacular. A few more years would probably have made it more exciting - or maybe even a bath in a Nico Kröger sherry cask - you have to be careful with sherry casks how much they bring, since nowadays in Spain a lot of sherry casks are made for the whisky industry, with stuff that is sometimes discarded instead of the spirit aging in something that was really tasty and nice.

I have to say, I'm positively surprised by this little guy, nice fruity ester notes with great funk. Light marzipan honey notes. The PX nicely rounds off the Doc, so absolutely not disturbing. Alcohol is also well integrated.

Online Tasting with Joshua Singh: This is my second most favorite of the set. A bit similar to Virgin Oak but affected by PX casks so a bit more sweet, also it is very full on body, typical hampden taste & aroma with one addition: Marmalade.

I expected a bit more. The PX gets lost. On a similar level as the Olorosso Cask. I found the Port a bit better. The Virgin the best. Despite the criticism, it's a tasty drop
