New Yarmouth Flensburg Rum Company The Village (Nürnberg) 1994
Here's the twist: this New Yarmouth 1994 got a sherry finish, and even the sherry-skeptics came around. Expect caramel, coconut and vanilla meeting dark red fruit and milk chocolate, with a whiff of glue underneath. Several tasters call it surprisingly sweet and "quite accessible" for the marque. The 67% hides remarkably well — a few drops of water opens it further.

How does New Yarmouth Flensburg Rum Company The Village (Nürnberg) 1994 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Sherry-finished 94 New Yarmouth, sweet and smooth Widely liked as a well-made 94 NY where the sherry rounds things out without burying the rum. The recurring catch: it's a good one, not the top of the vintage — some miss a wow moment.

Edit after 2 years of opened bottle from Serge not diminished. Insane quality In the glass for blind tasting were the following 94er New Yarmouth The preliminary result 1. RX10164 2. RX12050 3. RX12183 4. RX10531 5. RX16026 6. RX10419 7. RX13113 8. RX10167 9. RX15643 10. RX10204 11. RX12556 12. RX12841 13. RX9617 14. RX1563 15. RX16027 16. RX12161 17. RX13824 18. RX6983 Have to try it again, but it just grabbed me, will report back. Just blown away. Very good... Tried again and after some time added a few drops of water. That develops it further and makes it even rounder than it already is. Edit: After having let five New Yarmouth releases compete against each other and it only placed 3rd, I correct it down by 0.1 points.

Not necessarily a huge fan of sherry finishes in rum. With the 94 NY this works quite well, however. The rum‘s DNA is still clearly noticeable. Sips very nice overall. Trying this side by side to non finished 94 NYs, the verdict remains the same. The finish is well done and adds a nice variation to the profile while preserving the inherent character.

Beautiful fair bottling, which is an all-round successful rum. I have a lot of caramel on the nose, but also musty wood tones, like old Armagnacs from damp cellars. In the mouth, there are parallels to the Rum Nation Clarendon 1991 (RX 1012). The sherry cask comes through very discreetly, but is still noticeable. Otherwise, the usual oak/vanilla tones with some red fruits. Great drinkable, almost light overall impression despite the high %%. Lots of barrel influence without being too bitter due to the high storage. Nice and long finish that encourages salivation. All in all, I'm still missing an aha moment with this rum. It's very well made and well selected, but nothing I'll remember in a week's time. Justified PLV with a great bottle design.

This has something - the bright vanilla, coconut and caramel notes of the New Yarmouth vintage 1994 meet heavy PX sherry aromas. Yes, here sweet meets sweet - but the combination is still quite harmonious in my eyes. Naturally, the sweetness is very dominant, but the heavy fruit notes offer an exciting complement to the pastry sweetness of the original NY94 profile. Reminds me of croissant with jam, but much more refined. I like it.
Review by SaibotZtar
Not the typical NY 1994... like all 1994s this one is also not really directly associated with THE typical Jamaica rum. Alcohol is very well integrated. Very drinkable, I personally don’t find the Oloroso finish too extreme or very disturbing... I also still clearly taste the typical NY genes. I like it ✌️

A little cross-tasting with the two Fine Drams and the FRC Village. All three need a lot of time in the glass before they open up. All three are very good 94er NY, but don't reach the top. Benchmark remains the RA for me here! The Fine Dram with 68.5% is the winner here. Despite the high alcohol content, it comes across very pleasantly creamy. The nose is quite restrained, but on the palate it shows its potential, dominating (even though the barrel is clearly noticeable). For me, the most harmonious NY tonight. Second is the FRC. The sweetness of the sherry finish is clearly noticeable but still just fits. Third is the Fine Dram with 68%. It is very brutal and not quite as balanced. In summary, all are consistently very good bottlings.

At the nose the weakest rum of today's cross-tasting NY 1994. But on the palate the rum (probably due to the sherry finish) shows its strength, meaning roundness and pleasant mustiness. Really successful bottling with epic design (even if that doesn't count in my rating).

Sherry sweetness & milk chocolate on the nose. Palate rather dry with a slight bitterness. Wet soil after a heavy rain. Overall the sherry & rum dont blend very well, result feels disconnected. //update: same result after retasting. Not really bad, but the end result still does not convince me :(

Super nose! Definitely an awesome NY94 profile, but the alcohol is too present for me, especially since it was finished in sherry again! Update 23.06.24: After initially tasting this rum late at night at GRF 2023, I have to slightly revise my opinion about a year later: A nice bottling of a 94 NY, which surprisingly comes off sweet for this marque thanks to the sherry finish. Although I usually avoid sherry finishes, this one is restrained, well integrated, and thus an unusually pleasant improvement of the rum, which probably wasn’t one of the strongest of the vintage before.
Review by Tschusikowsky
Blind very similar to a Foursquare. Alcohol is very smoothly integrated. Tea, spices, syrupy, coconut, chocolate, vanilla, caramel. Not the typical NY. Aroma spreads nicely in the mouth. I somehow really like the finish. Easy drinking and very tasty.
Review by Mentalo
Does the 94er NY need a finish? Certainly not. Does it still fit? Definitely. The sherry finish adds a slight fruity note without overshadowing the 94er profile. Both harmonize very well together.
Review by Serge
I find the sherry finish here successful and fitting. I've had the bottle open for a few weeks now and often snack on it gladly 🤤
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Basically a tasty 94 New Yarmouth but overall the sherry influence is a bit too dominant and the finish a bit too bitter and sharp. But I still prefer the 94s without finish. Still a good bottling!
Review by Adrian Wahl
A tasty NY 1994 and sherry fits quite well with the profile. For me, however, the raw material is simply not an outstanding NY 1994. Curious how it will be in a Mai Tai. The label design is outstandingly cool.
Review by cigares
A heterogeneous mix of scattered scents, milk chocolate, spices. The influence of Sherry is clearly perceptible. The sweetness of the nose disappears in the mouth and dark, earthy, and woody notes fill almost all the space. A slight menthol appears over time. The aromas disappear gently. Certainly delicious but it suffers a lot from direct comparison with other NY 1994s.

82 points. The sherry finish does this rum no good at all making this the only 94 NY that I did not find very good. I always take finishes like this one with a grain of salt and often wonder if the finish is there to hide a bad rum.
Review by Basti
Quite accessible and almost easy-drinking thanks to the sherry finish with parallels to some FS bottlings. Alcohol well integrated. Very similar to the Aficionados bottlings. Needs a direct comparison again.
Review by Jarek
Tasted together with the 1994 New Yarmouth FRC for The Bottle Shop. At the fair, I still had the impression that the sherry finish was too intrusive and rather unnecessary. Now I find it rather pleasant.
Review by Fuwi
What. A. Rocket. Quivering funk and a real bang on the tongue! An investment. But the fun you have on the tongue and palate is definitely worth it. The sherry finish is hardly noticeable, so it seems to support the profile. Fantastic!
Review by Djehey
Not so complex but very indulgent with red fruit. Beautiful mastery of the wood and sherry finish. Very intense. Compared with the NY from Rum Artesanal. The latter brings more complexity and therefore more interest.
Review by Timo Groeger
Great stuff, thanks Fuwi for that. Great nose, caramel and vanilla are noticeable, but also tropical fruits, especially coconut. On the palate, at first dark chocolate, then gradually the other aromas unfold (wood, vanilla, coconut, and red fruits).
Review by Tom Buteneers
I like this 1994 NYE expression a lot. Sherry cask works very well with this rum and the alcohol is extremely well incorporated. Not your typical Jamaican and in this case I’m totally fine with it. Already looking forward to the moment that I pour the rest of the sample.
Review by TheRhumhoe
Perhaps the reference rum for integrating sherry cask finishing. The nose is intense and indulgent, you recognize the archetype of the New Yarmouth of this vintage: tropical fruits, nuts (walnut, coconut), pastries, mild spices, chocolate and glue are present, but the sherry finish elevates it and gives it subtlety and extra complexity, it's very pleasant. The palate is very creamy, the sherry giving a smooth side that softens the palate. There are beautiful sweet notes of toffee, caramel and brioche (like French toast), lots of fruits (berries, coconut, raisins) supported by a woody, toasted and grilled ensemble and a touch of glue. There's a lot of indulgence on chocolate, mocha and nuts. It's an intense, rich yet very fine profile. The alcohol is superbly integrated, as is the sherry finish. Bravo. The finish is extremely long, warm, tannic and slightly sweetened by caramel and toffee. The fruits and nuts are present, caressing the palate with dark chocolate, mocha, wood and spicy toasted notes. A superb rum, perfectly mastered and proving that one parameter can make a big difference.

#5579 22.08.2025 Relaxing with a set of samples while watching Gotham Knights. Nose Fresh, medium intense, wood, light roasted, fruity, spice, light caramel, light cherry, light glue. Palate Oily, wood, light roasted, fruity, naturally sweet, light cherry, light glue, light caramel, light wine. Finish Long and warm, wood, faint smoke, fruits, light citrus, faint floral, spice, light caramel. Empty glass Vanilla, light chocolate, caramel, light cherry, raisin. Needs to rest for a while to really open up properly. ABV integration is very good.

Wow! Simply amazing - since the Swell the Spirits Yarmouth I've been really focused on this distillery. At first, after the feedback here, I was afraid I wouldn't like it and maybe a different cask finish would have suited it better, but I find that the sherry influence just slightly closes the rum, which you can undo with a few drops of water. Otherwise, this rum is for me an extremely soft and round flavor bomb like no other - dark red fruits, tobacco, leather, propolis, a really very long finish - you can really have a lot of fun with this rum.
Review by HenryL
My first 94 New Yarmouth. I definitely understand the hype around it. Nice fruity nose, naturally enhanced here by the sherry finish. In the mouth, the interplay between sherry and rum works surprisingly well.
Review by Felix
Triggered an immediate buy reflex when trying it at the whisky fair. Beautiful tropical aged notes with full aromas and a pronounced mouthfeel. You don't feel the good 67%! Long finish. Insanely good (drinkable) and the big, more aged brother of the Flensburg 94.
Review by Johannes
Because of the sherry finish, I was a bit skeptical. But actually, the finish harmonizes very well and is not disturbing!
Review by Bavarian Rum Lover
Great 94er New Yarmouth. The sherry finish does not overshadow at all but rounds off the profile very nicely. Furthermore, it keeps the slightly prevailing bitterness in check. The alcohol at over 67% is perfectly integrated. Adding water can be done obligatorily, it does not change the profile but only softens the acetone sharpness.
Review by Master P
Finally tried it, quite accessible and almost easy-drinking thanks to the sherry finish with parallels to some FS bottlings. Alcohol well integrated. Nice caramel and fruit notes. Pleasantly sweet and a nice long finish with chocolate and roasted sherry notes.
Review by Martin Spooner
On the nose definitely glue and a hint of red fruits. Maybe with a splash of caramel. On the palate a nice smoothness. The colleagues have quite some power. Nice coconut paired with vanilla. Great.
Review by Buddudharma
Good, not outstanding 1994 representative. However, for me, as with all rums of this batch: the profile is too close to the classic Column Still to justify prices of this magnitude.

The last sip from the bottle and I see I haven't rated it yet. A 1994 New Yarmouth with Sherry Finish. Somehow I want to love it, and it is a good rum. And the design with the comic label is great too. But somehow it always lacked a bit of the wow factor for me, for example compared to the 1994 Rum Artesanal. In conclusion, it remains a good but not top-class 94 NY in my memory. Many thanks again to Jörg who brought it to me from the Village back then.
Review by Tomas Hajlich
This is really my cup of coffee :) at a price of 100€ it is a gem worth having in stock. It is a typical TDL in taste and aroma. There is a beautiful hint of mint and dark chocolate in the nose and the taste shows a pleasant aging. I would never have guessed it has more than 60%.
Review by Jürgen Gigl
Very good rum that fully hits my taste. Well integrated alcohol that is not disturbing while enjoying. Fruity, due to the sherry influence, but not in the foreground. In my opinion, a successful bottling! Too bad I could only get a sample here (they always go so fast).

Mmmm. My first NY 1994! And what an experience 😍The first whiff reminds me of cherry coke laced with a very rich milk chocolate and it totally invites for a further taste. A lot of woodiness comes through during the tasting and the smooth maturation really reveals itself. In the finish I am left with quite some tannins, which bitterness blends nicely with the creamy chocolate notes. Looking forward to trying more NY1994!
Review by Vinsdorf
Despite the sherry finish which is not too present for me I lack a bit of round and deep jamaica notes. It is still good but not as I expected and the years spent in tropics

Vintage 1994. With 8.5 out of 10 it belongs to the better ones that I've had in my glass.
