Here's the twist: this New Yarmouth 1994 got a sherry finish, and even the sherry-skeptics came around. Expect caramel, coconut and vanilla meeting dark red fruit and milk chocolate, with a whiff of glue underneath. Several tasters call it surprisingly sweet and "quite accessible" for the marque. The 67% hides remarkably well — a few drops of water opens it further.

Super Nase! Definitiv geiles NY94–Profil, aber Alkohol für mich zu präsent, vor allem, da er nochmal im Sherry lag! Update 23.06.24: Nachdem ich diesen Rum initial zu später Stunde am GRF 2023 verkostet habe, muss ich meine Meinung knapp ein Jahr später etwas korrigieren: Schöne Abfüllung eines 94er NY, der wohl durch das Sherry-Finish überraschend süß für dieses Marque daherkommt. Obwohl ich Sherry-Finishes meist verschmähe, ist dieses hier zurückhaltend, gut eingebunden und damit ausnahmsweise eine angenehme Verbesserung des Rums, der wohl vorher nicht zu den stärksten des Jahrgabgs gezählt hat.

Beautiful fair bottling, which is an all-round successful rum. I have a lot of caramel on the nose, but also musty wood tones, like old Armagnacs from damp cellars. In the mouth, there are parallels to the Rum Nation Clarendon 1991 (RX 1012). The sherry cask comes through very discreetly, but is still noticeable. Otherwise, the usual oak/vanilla tones with some red fruits. Great drinkable, almost light overall impression despite the high %%. Lots of barrel influence without being too bitter due to the high storage. Nice and long finish that encourages salivation. All in all, I'm still missing an aha moment with this rum. It's very well made and well selected, but nothing I'll remember in a week's time. Justified PLV with a great bottle design.

I tried it again and added a few drops of water after a while. It develops again and becomes even rounder than it already is. Edit: Now that I've tested five New Yarmouth bottlings against each other and it "only" took 3rd place, I'm adjusting it downwards by 0.1 points.

Ein kleines Cross-Tasting mit den beiden Fine Drams und dem FRC Village. Alle drei benötigen zunächst viel Zeit im Glas, bis sie sich öffnen. Alle drei sind sehr gute 94er NY, stoßen aber nicht in die Spitze hinein. Benchmark bleibt für mich hier der RA! Der Fine Dram mit 68,5% ist hier der Gewinner. Trotz des hohen Alkoholgehaltes kommt er sehr angenehm cremig daher. Die Nase ist recht verhalten, aber am Gaumen zeigt er sein Potenzial, da dominiert er (auch wenn das Fass deutlich spürbar ist). Für mich am heutigen Abend der stimmigste NY. Als zweites folgt der FRC. Die Süße des Sheery-Finishs ist deutlich wahrnehmbar, aber passt noch so eben. Der Dritte ist der Fine Dram mit 68%. Er ist sehr brachial und nicht ganz so ausgewogen. Zusammengefasst sind es durchwegs sehr gute Abfüllungen

Wow ! Einfach nur Krass - Seit dem Swell the Spirits Yarmouth bin ich stark auf diese Destillerie fixiert. Anfangs hatte ich nach dem Feedback hier schon Angst, dass er mir nicht schmecken würde und evtl hätte ihm ein anderes Fassfinish besser getan, allerdings finde ich, dass der Sherryeinfluss den Rum nur ein wenig verschließt, was man mit ein paar Tropfen Wasser wieder rückgängog machen kann. Ansonsten ist dieser Rum hier für mich eine extrem weiche und runde Aromenbombe ohne gleichen - dunkle rote Früchte, Tabak, Leder, Propolis, ein worklich sehr langer Abgang - mit diesem Rum hoer kann man wirklich viel spaß haben.

Das hat was - die knalligen Vanille-, Kokos- und Karamellnoten des New Yarmouth Jahrgangs 1994 treffen auf schwere PX Sherry-Aromen. Ja, hier trifft süss auf süss - aber die Ergänzung ist in meinen Augen durchaus noch stimmig. Zwar wird die Süsse naturgemäss sehr dominant, aber die schweren Fruchtnoten bieten eine spannende Ergänzung zur Gebäcksüsse des ursprünglichen NY94-Profils. Hat was von Croissant mit Marmelade, ist aber deutlich raffinierter. Mir gefällts.

Un mélange hétéroclite de parfums épars, chocolat au lait, épices. L’influence du Sherry est nettement perceptible. La douceur du nez disparaît en bouche et des notes sombres, terreuses et boisées remplissent presque tout l’espace. Un léger menthol apparaît avec le temps. Les arômes disparaissent en douceur. Certainement délicieux mais il souffre beaucoup de la comparaison directe avec d’autres NY 1994.

Toller 94er New Yarmouth. Das Sherryfinish überlagert in keinster Weise sondern rundet das Profil sehr schön ab. Darüber hinaus hält es die leicht vorherrschende Bitterkeit im Zaum. Der Alkohol ist mit über 67% perfekt eingebunden. Die Zugabe von Wasser kann obligatorisch erfolgen, es verändert das Profil nicht, sondern mildert lediglich die acetonische Schärfe.

Not necessarily a huge fan of sherry finishes in rum. With the 94 NY this works quite well, however. The rum‘s DNA is still clearly noticeable. Sips very nice overall. Trying this side by side to non finished 94 NYs, the verdict remains the same. The finish is well done and adds a nice variation to the profile while preserving the inherent character.

Not the typical NY 1994 ... as with all 1994s, this one is not really directly associated with THE typical Jamaica rum. Alcohol is well integrated. Very drinkable, I personally don't find the Oloroso finish too extreme or very disturbing ... I can also still clearly taste the typical NY genes. I like it ✌️

Sehr guter Rum, der meinen Geschmack voll trifft. Gut eingebundener Alkohol, der beim genießen nicht störend ist. Fruchtig, durch den Sherryeinfluss, aber nicht im Vordergrund steht. Eine, meiner Meinung nach, gelungene Abfüllung! Schade, dass ich hier nur ein Sample ergattern konnte (die sind immer so schnell weg)

An der Nase der schwächste Rum der heute im Cross-Tasting verkosteten NY 1994. Aber am Gaumen spielt der Rum (vermutlich aufgrund des Sherry Finishes) seine Stärke, sprich Rundheit und angenehme Muffigkeit, aus. Wirklich gelungene Abfüllung mit epischem Design (auch wenn das nicht in meine Bewertung einfließt).

Sherry sweetness & milk chocolate on the nose. Palate rather dry with a slight bitterness. Wet soil after a heavy rain. Overall the sherry & rum dont blend very well, result feels disconnected. //update: same result after retasting. Not really bad, but the end result still does not convince me :(

Blind einem Foursquare sehr ähnlich. Alkohol ist sehr geschmeidig eingebunden. Tee, Gewürze, sirupartig, Kokosnuss, Schokolade, Vanille, Karamell. Nicht der typische NY. Aroma breitet sich schön im Mund aus. Mir gefällt der Finish irgendwie sehr gut. Süffige Geschichte und sehr lecker.

Löste beim Probieren auf der Whiskymesse einen sofortigen Kaufreflex aus. Wunderschön tropisch gereifte Noten mit vollen Aromen und einem ausgeprägten Mundgefühl. Die gut 67% spürt man nicht! Laaang im Abgang. Wahnsinnig gut (trinkbar) und der große gereiftere Bruder vom Flensburg 94er.

I like this 1994 NYE expression a lot. Sherry cask works very well with this rum and the alcohol is extremely well incorporated. Not your typical Jamaican and in this case I’m totally fine with it. Already looking forward to the moment that I pour the rest of the sample.

Tohle je skutecne muj salek kavy:) pri cene 100€ je to skvost, ktery se vyplati mit v zasobe. Je to typicky TDL v chuti i ve vuni. Je tam krasny naznak maty a cerne cokolady ve vuni a v chuti je citit prijemne stari. Nikdy bych nehadal, ze to ma vic jak 60%

Was. Eine. Rakete. Bebender Funk und richtig Bums auf der Zunge! Ein Invest. Aber der Spaß, den man auf der Zunge und am Gaumen hat ist es allemal wert. Das Sherry Finish merkt man ihm kaum an, scheint das Profil also eher zu unterstützen. Phantastisch!

82 points. The sherry finish does this rum no good at all making this the only 94 NY that I did not find very good. I always take finishes like this one with a grain of salt and often wonder if the finish is there to hide a bad rum.
