The Whisky Jury T.D.L The Many Faces of Rum 2003
The mint hits first here — several tasters describe getting hit by "a whole forest of mint" before anything else. Give it 15 minutes and dried fruit, orange peel, dirty rubber-and-workshop notes and dark wood roll in. At 62.7% the alcohol is mostly well tucked in, though a few found it hot and herbal to the point of bitter. A creamy, powerful 2003 TDL that rewards patience.

Update: 15.02.2025 Mal wieder mein großes TDL Crosstasting.

Nothing extraordinary, just common TDL rum... Beautiful matte bottle under 100 euros. You can feel the alcohol, but very drinkable. I recommend it even to beginner rum lovers to discover new flavors. TDL's mint is an unmistakable taste that you never get tired of.
Review by DomM
Complex and rich nose. It clearly shows its age with dark and woody notes. Still it has a freshness with fruits and menthol notes (not fresh mint) making for a nice mix overall. Similar performance on the palate: clearly shows its age but retains enough liveliness to deliver an excellent example of the profile. Wood, tea, herbs and some fruits with a long minty finish. Nice!

A 2003 T.D.LDThe often belong to the "dirty" and especially mint monsters...The nose starts relaxed with bourbon, vanilla and barrel. If I smell deeper into the glass, the alcohol jumps out at me and almost obscured also mint and freshness/coolness! It's hard for me to get past the alcohol. Some fruitiness (dried fruit) and spice can be found. Palate: first an unexpected malt note, then a whole bunch of mint and kumquat, quite bitter, barrel and spice again, all within a pleasant framework. Overall quite sharp but that may be due to my extended rum break. The mint and light bitterness linger long and complement each other well. A nice, intense T.D.L with a lot of mint character, which could be quietly more complex.
Review by Leo Krüper
Nice mint TDL. Not on the level of the 2003 CDI.
Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
Wow, it really is a powerhouse! I love mint - and it has really a lot. And only the finish! Laaaang and läääänger! Yes, there is a lot of alcohol involved. Of course, I still have to compare this rum with the new top dog from Asta Morris, but it already leaves a strong impression. I am glad to have bought a bottle.Small drop of bitterness: On the nose, the rum is somewhat unimpressive for my sensation, I would have trouble in a blind tasting to detect a T.D.L.Nevertheless, 89 points, because the palate, especially the finish, just pulls everything out again today.

initially quite on the minty side on the road (but not necessarily the pungent mentholige). After some dwell time then also a portion of dried fruit, bicycle tube and something sweet towards toffee. On the palate, workshop, charred barrel and again subtle sweetness, perhaps more like just boiled down jam...the WJ definitely plays right up there (but I'll have to compare it again with the Rasta Morris directly). Many thanks to Tobias for the sample!

A minty nose with walnuts, orange zest and dried fruit. Cedar wood (cigar box) underpins, with a tangy, vegetal edge. The palate is vigorous, the aromas invade the mouth, led by menthol, then diminish fairly quickly. Less complexity here than on the nose. The remaining aromas last quite long, especially cedar wood, menthol and orange zest. Quite a bit of woody bitterness at the very end.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
A really really beautiful 2003 TDL vintage that brings together distinctive intense mint tea, orange peel and lychee notes alongside nice woody tannins. 2003 simply remains one of the best TDL vintages.
Review by TheRhumhoe
Relatively close to its stork counterpart, this rum nevertheless reveals an identity all its own. The nose is very round, with a very pronounced and pleasant fruity tone of black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), tropical fruit (papaya) and peach. The freshness of menthol and flowers adds depth to the nose, while a hint of spice and caramel adds an extra dose of deliciousness. Although there's a dirty note of tire (in reference to a famous defunct distillery), the bourbon tends to take over on aeration. A profile that is nonetheless elegant, sensual and generous. The attack on the palate is lively, focused on menthol and herbaceousness, but also on spices (pepper) and fruit, as voluptuous as ever. There's a hint of bitterness, with wood and leather giving the palate a boost. The more empyreumatic leanings (dirty, roasted, rubbery) become more present in the background. The alcohol is very well integrated. Compared to the stork, the profile is a little rougher, but remains authentic and complex. The finish is very long, dominated by the freshness of menthol and herbs, but slightly more roasted and tannic. The spicy, toasty oak becomes fuller, while the fruit becomes more discreet (exotic fruit, yellow fruit, dried fruit, blackcurrant). An exuberant, characterful profile, but as charming as ever, both on the nose and on the palate.

#5569 18.08.2025 Enjoying a few samples after a hard day at work. Nose Fresh, balanced, wood, light roasted, faint smoke, mint, light citrus, light leather, fruity, light vanilla. Palate Oily, balanced, complex, fruity, light mango, mint, light citrus, faint anise, light leather, warm. Finish Long and warm, wood, light smoke, light anise, mint, light citrus. Empty glass Light mango, mint, light citrus, light leather, vanilla. Needs to rest for a while to really open up and it has a very nice and strong mint note.

The whiskey jury I have in direct comparison to the Asta Morris in the glass. He is definitely the lighter of the two; should mean that he is more drinkable, softer and rounder!I like that very much, the nose with its fresh mint, the fine vanilla and some citrus is already quite beguiling! The Asta comes along there much more brute! The palate is also with the WJ velvety, creamier and contains more bitters. The Asta is much dirtier there! Both are wonderfully minty fresh in the finish. From the character, the two are already different, but at a high level!Which is better, is a pure tendency question. Although I prefer corners and edges and would therefore give preference to the Asta, but ultimately both are at the same high level and get the same points

Really great TSP. The first impression is confirmed. Mint, plus typical "TDL dirt", wood and a hint of licorice. Alcohol super integrated. But not quite as strong as the 2002 from RomDeLux. The 8.7 remains!

Retasting on 2024-05-17 at Flo's: why did I only rate it 8.2 the first time? Sooo delicious! Minty, fruity, herbal, dirty. I'd love to have a bottle of that. One of the tastiest TDLs so far. Retasting as part of a small TDL tasting with RX13557, RX944, RX15670, RX19670, RX15565, and RX20525. The original good impression is confirmed again. More fruity and softer than the CDI, more complex than the Barracuda.

Very good, typical TDL with a mint note, which is not as brutal as others.

Delicious 2003 TDL ... nice mint with not too much menthol. Great fruit sweetness and creaminess.

Mhm... I must say that I had doubts at the beginning whether this rum will taste me at all, I usually scare off this mint flavor a little. But with this I find him really good. Overall from the taste profile he speaks to me completely.
Review by Mike H.
At first a little harsh, 15 minutes are needed to tame this beast down. Then the classic TDL notes shine through even though the alcohol could be better integrated. Mint, dirt, dried fruit, spices, wood and a nice creaminess, a powerhouse of a TDL and another contender for the poor man’s Caroni list.

Update 2 18/07/2026: rum tasting @ Stijn. Adjusted rating from 9.0 to 9.1. This 2003 vintage is sublime! Update 06/02/2026: Road Rummers S09T03 @ TasTToe. Adjusted rating from 8.7 to 9.0. Next level mint on this TDL. 29/11/2025: private tasting @ Olivier. Compared to the 2009 TDL bottling from The Whisky Jury, this one is more herbal and much less fruity. Still a very nice rum though, but there are beter TDL's available.

First impression: minty (not overpowering) and a bit dirty TDL powerhouse. Takes some time for the fruity notes to come forward. Looooong aftertaste.
Review by Andi
On the nose, orange, orange peel, barrel / wood.On the palate first totally horny fruity, for me orange then mint, wood and dirty notes.
Review by Mentalo
Well balanced and complex T.D.L. Mint, fruits, dirty, spicy, a bit of menthol and wood. Needs some time in the glass. I found the finish a bit too acidic. Still a great 2003 bottling.
Review by Maxime Clr 🇫🇷
A 2003 with a bit less menthol than usual. Profile remains quite dark and roasted, superb. Only the spicy side bothers me a bit.
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
I really like these flowery TDLs, especially after having a heavy Demerara before. This one has a great alcohol integration. Typical notes you can expect, mint is on the very fresh site, with some nice lingering sweetness at the end.
Review by Nivius
Here you are slain by a whole forest of mint and once you have found your way in this forest, it suddenly develops unexpected malt notes. In return, I hardly make out the dirty notes of the 2002 and especially the 2001.I really like it, it hums more than the 2002 Romdeluxe, but a whole lot less than the 2001 Rasta Morris.
Review by Jonas
Alcohol integration not the best. Otherwise, as a 2003, it falls significantly short for me compared to the 2001 (and also 2002).
Review by Rare Akuma
A challenging profile on the nose. Very rough around the edges with consistant bold, aggressive aromas. It starts with pinetree resin, camphor and gardening peat. An interesting combination of old and musty flavours. Then rolls into dried fruits, and red and green rhubarb. The aroma becomes akin to the smell in those typical confectioner shops in Southern France’s Provence, lush with candied fruits. Eventually the spirit evolves into minty herbal tea and bicycle workshop notes. Excellent complexity. In the mouth astoundingly oily, cool and dirty. If you thought the nose was minty, you’re in for a surprise. The fruits become surpressed, and instead we get a rush of Moroccan mint tea, eucalyptus leaf and petrol. One can only imagine how they managed to get this cask so fresh. Gas station notes flood the palate into a very long, dirty finish. For me, and taking into account that this was released at a very fair price point, a reference when it comes to TDL ‘03. If I were to score this on a price/value scale it would most likely be 100/100.
Review by Buddudharma
Toller TDL-Vertreter, der das typische Profil mitbringt, in eleganter und schön ausbalancierter Form. Von den drei verkosteten TDLs an diesem Abend der Beste.
Review by Schnubbii
Very nice T.D.L, great balance of mint and bright fruit. Reminds me of the 2002s from RA and RdL. The mint/vegetable note is perhaps even more pronounced than the RdL 2002. Nose and palate are killer for me, and even on the finish the fruitiness lingers for a moment. Only downer: where can I get another bottle now?
Review by Stijn Zino
Liquid Leuven 2025 Well made. But I guess it comes down to personal taste. This has a really strong herbal finish. You either hate it or love it. For me it was too much. Retasting and slightly higher score. But i like their 2009 more. Retasting it's growing on me. But you have to like menthol.
Review by Alexander Rasch
Mint, mint ubd again mint. Very nice TDL. May be a bit dirtier. Nose actually a bit more restrained than the 2001s from RM and Nobilis. Alcohol noticeable but not disturbing. Glad that I have some to sippen now in stock.
Review by Martin Švojgr
Very successful trinidad, beautiful mint and candy.
Review by Vinsdorf
Weak aroma at first, after a few minutes more mint and woodiness appears, faint dirty notes. Compared to the RM 2001 this is much more smooth, beautifully creamy and more minty. Actually much more drinkable, because the percentages are absolutely not noticeable. Great, but one point behind RM because it is not that funny.
Review by Sebastian.W
