People after a funky, ester-driven Aussie will find plenty here — one taster swore it was Jamaican until he checked the label. Very estery, with light polish and varnish, stewed ripe fruit and pineapple over well-fused oak. The 57.6% is well integrated, oily in the glass. Where it stumbles is the finish: short, and it drops back into gentle vanilla-and-spice convention.

#4056 A pretty good release from Valinch & Mallet i think. The price is pretty OK and I have ordered a bottle because I like it. Well balanced and the wood isn't dominant and does well with the fruit and light polish/varnish notes. The empty glass is really nice and I can pick up some nougat and salty notes.

Unfortunately, it doesn't quite suit my taste. Very light nose of esters and wood. In my opinion, the palate is predominantly herbal. Apart from that, slight notes of alcohol and spices. It's ok, but I was expecting better.

I didn’t take any notes at the Rhum Fest so a more detailed review will follow as soon as I get the chance to sample this rum again in a better context.

A rum with a very contrasting profile. The nose is rather shy, with greedy, concentrated aromas of spices and chocolate. The woodiness is well blended into the profile. This is followed by fruity notes, a hint of polish and pastry notes. One might expect a linear profile, but the palate is far more surprising: floral notes, aromatic herbs, tea and thyme come as a surprise and overwhelm the palate. Vanilla, caramel, dried fruit and pineapple follow one another in this singular profile. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish, on the other hand, falls back into the timidity of the nose, with a very short length and unexpressive, very conventional aromas (pastry, dried fruit, vanilla wood, sweet spices, leather and nuts). A very ambivalent, almost bipolar rum, a little simplistic and restrained. It lacks a little something to set it apart from the rest.

If I hadn't known it was a Beenleigh, I would have guessed a Jamaican. Very funky and esterified. No acidity. Stewed fruit, very ripe. But indeed something I can't identify makes it different from a Jamaican.

The nose (fruity) promises something different from the palate. This is clearly on the spicy side. The finish follows these aromas and later develops some dried fruit! A good rum, but not to my taste profile

A nice Australian. Very oily in the glass. I also found many deposits in the glass, which I don't really mind. The finish is relatively short. Not really a showstopper, more a sipper for in between. So I made the right choice for an afternoon espresso.
