Sweet, woody Botucal side-step A solid stepping stone for fans of sweet Venezuelan styles who want a bit more strength. RumX members mention vanilla, caramel, chocolate and plenty of oak, with some synthetic notes and a slightly harsh finish for some palates.
Those who enjoy sweet Venezuelan rums like standard Botucal and want a slightly stronger, more wood-driven option without jumping into funky or super-complex territory.
Drinkers who dislike sweetness, expect big complexity at this price, or are sensitive to a bit of alcohol bite and synthetic notes in the finish.

Store visit Rum Paradise Hamburg April 2025. The next Botucal, but no real difference to the previous one. Vanilla, caramel and wood on the nose. A hint of chocolate is added on the palate.
Review by Johannes
Phew, really nasty finish. Hardly drinkable.

Ok no.2 here we go. Nose is a bit weird mostly wood/oak. Little bit of fruit, sort of dried figs and rest is weird synthetic smell kind of acidic. Taste again completely different than smell. Typical venezuelan rum with mostly vanilla, caramel (sweet) notes which are underlined by oak or barrel taste. Finish is medium to long one which is nice. Mostly woody harrelson in the finish. :P Same rating as no.1 for me. Retasting and pulling 1 point 👇

Chutnáme společně celý triplet. Významně zajímavější rozuměj uchopitelnější vůně než u jedničky. Tady celkem jntenzivní tropické ovoce a sud. V chuti je to opět kotrmelec oproti vůni. Pořád pijeme rum z venezuely, tedy velmi sladký profil, vanilka karamel a tentokrat i náznak závěru.

Definitely on the sweet side. Quite nice for a cozy evening.

In April 2022, I attended a Botucal rum tasting with my friend Enrico at Cigarren Baydar & Sahin GmbH in Essen. Brand Ambassador Peter S. did a great job guiding us through the evening. Good cigars and a very tasty buffet rounded off a great evening. Since then, I have really appreciated the stuff from BOTUCAL.

"These reviews might seem a little predictable to some. Some may think I am just trying to bring Diplomatico down. If you are in any doubt then fork out for one. You'll find that you can get very similar rum for a 1/3 of the price. Pick up their own..."Read full review →

"In my understanding this should showcase the ingredients in the Botucal Blend, but then why show of what is in part the reason you need to blend it so heavily. This really feels like a filler, think of grain whisky."
