#6234 15.01.2026 Relaxing with a few samples after picking up my wife from work. Watching James May's "Oh Cook". Nose Medium intense, light wood, cherry, light chocolate, orange, faint roasted, faint caramel. Palate Round, light wood, berries, light dried fruit, light peppery, light pear, light caramel, light earthy. Finish Medium to long, round, light herbs, light wood, berries, light apricot. Empty glass Raisin, light caramel, cherry, light honey, light apple.

Verdict: a nice and juicy single cask, with prominent cask influence of jammy red fruit, dried fruit, and spice. The spirit still pokes through, especially on the palate and finish. 79 points. Nose: New wood, raisin, berries, jam, apricot, spice. Alcoholic on PX sherry and red wine. Palate: Here the sugar content of the distillate shows, more on cane juice. Then, light glue, quite some jammy red fruit, honey and a hint of dried fruits (mainly raisin) and spice. Finish: long, friendly and jammy, as a continuation of the palate.

Bought Savanna, got a neutral rum. The base was destroyed by the PX cask aging. Savanna is hardly recognizable, neither Traditional/Grand Arome nor Herr. Still a solid rum, not suitable for purists.
