Typical solid Mhoba, but on the palate just too young and unruly and a bit too sharp for me. Does a one-year-old rum, even if wonderfully designed and from a single cask, really have to cost more than 100 EUR nowadays? 🙄

Oh dear god - no, no, no This literally tastes like what others have said…. Tasted like plastic and rubber have melted and mingled in the hot sun with some melted grass for good measure Plus I’m now recognizing the taste of raw esters that I’ve sampled from unaged rums - this hasn’t been matured so much as it’s had a brief “gap-year from university” in a French oak cask then bottled immediately afterward It’s a nope from me

My first MHOBA. First, I have to note how well the 65% is integrated, especially on the nose. Solvent with esters. On the palate pleasantly sweet and surprisingly much spiciness from the wood for only one year.

So, as I already wrote on the WR10, I'm not that experienced with Mhoba yet and it doesn't seem to be my cup of tea. It's sometimes too tiring for me. Lots of esters and solvents, which is great of course, but it's quite complex. Slight sweetness, some wood with a fruit basket. I found the cherry bottling better in direct comparison.

#7215 25.08.2026 Enjoying some fresh samples I just got from my friend while listening to some new Psy Trance tracks on Spotify Thanks Henrik for the samples! Also a pretty good Mhoba with and OK price tag in my mind. Medium intense profile with smoke, ester, roasted wood, fruits, spice, caramel, honey, rubber, pastries, tannins and a dry palate.

No. 5: Yes, this rum is not bad. Quite woody on the nose and also very strong. The woody taste continues on the palate. I also find that it tastes slightly fruity. Overall score 8.4 :)

Just poured, I wanted to throw it in the sink, burnouts like that can't be smelled, burnt tire... let's wait and see if it improves: the start says Already everything.... It thins out and struggles to release some aromas, but only alcohol mixed with corn, paint, really unpleasant........... only Acrylic.... In the mouth, luckily it recovers And leaves no trace of nauseating notes.... Mouth a bit sweet... Nose 7.00 Mouth 8.2

A typical Mhoba, the alcohol is very well integrated and with a super good and long finish. In the nose a hint of ester and solvent. On the palate the ester is particularly clear.

Mhoba French Cask 2022 – 65% Small batch 100% pot still based on fresh cane juice, aged one year in French oak barrels that contained red wine from the Cape. Young, a bit spirited, but already complex: between woody and fruity, full of promise!

Jamaica-style nose, like all the Mhoba range, with alcohol and esters. The palate is very spirituous, leaning towards whisky or bourbon, with no rum and a peaty finish!
