If you want to meet Hampden without the full ester assault, this is that door. The OWH mark keeps things low-ester: ripe banana, pineapple and mango up front, then young, dry oak, a little vanilla and light glue. The nose charms most people; on the palate the 59.7% heat isn't perfectly tucked in, so a few drops of water help a lot.

I've had much better OWH in my glass... while the nose is still very harmonious with fruit, burnt sugar and a certain soft lightness, it loses its way on the palate. After a brief sweet intermezzo at the beginning, only wood, spice and roastiness dominate, with virtually no fruit at all. This is a little too one-sided for me

The nose starts very fruity, after a while the cask also comes into its own. Way down on the Hampden scale, but again amazingly intense! On the palate, unfortunately with a strong alcoholic spiciness but balanced between fruit and cask. Very good entry-level Hampden at cask strength.

It's a Hampden with 10 years and low ester, but I rather have the impression of a young Guyana. The alcohol is a bit present on the nose and palate. Sweet tropical fruits (banana, mango). Spicy. Slightly woody.

A light Hampden distilled in column still for a more subtle profile. The nose is dominated by ripe tropical fruits (banana, pineapple, and mango) but reveals a fairly fine veil of esters, accompanied by a woodiness that has slightly marked the rum. A delicate nose but lacking a bit of tonicity. The subtlety continues on the palate. The exotic fruits take precedence before a slight woodiness and a touch of vanilla make their entrance. The acidic notes of citrus and tannins are also present. A fairly classic combination with a rather calm temperament despite the stated strength. The finish leans more towards phenolic and medicinal notes. The fruits and wood follow in the background. It’s a bit drier but still accessible. A Hampden clearly made to vary from high ester profiles. It’s not badly made but something is missing to be truly top level.

Compared today, the Velier OWH 2018 RX17319 and the OWH from Rum Runner RX15797. In smell, Velier has the nose ahead for me. Much more intense than Rum Runner. In taste, Velier is also ahead for me. In conclusion, both are good, but there are better ones.

👃 quite a lot of fruit at the start, tropical fruits without the esters and fermentation. Then, more young wood than fruit. A buttery side and light glue. Caramel and sweetness from March fairs. It's relatively fresh but lacks a wow effect. Clean, precise and light (for a Hampden). 😋 A bit more intensity on the palate than on the nose, but quite alcoholic. I find the young wood like a diamond continental. Tropical fruits, some citrus, soft esters, more spices, dry tannins, quite lively acidity. ⛳ Relatively short for a Hampden, on tropical fruits, young and dry wood, a bit of glue, cough syrup, light vanilla. 💡 A very low ester Hampden that doesn't reach the levels of other mark OWH like Habitation Velier or Swell Pop's. Where it should be very fruity (at least that without the typicality brought by esters), I find instead predominant spices, woodiness and roasting. Good to discover the Hampden distillery from another angle than the ester bombs.

In direct comparison with RX10598. Slightly shallower and rounder. But overall the poorly integrated alcohol and the fizzy mouthfeel at the back. However, not expensive and perhaps a mediocre introduction to Hampden.

A rather light, fresh nose with a slight buttery side. The palate is the opposite: very intense, it cannot hide its origins. Tropical fruits are present, esters too. There is also a slight woody and roasted side. Unlike others, I find this Hampden not too aggressive. With a smoky woody side, the length on the palate could be better. For those who like these profiles, it's a good value for money!
