Caroni fans wanting a lighter, more approachable version of the mark will find their bottle here. Diesel, rubber, tar and roasted wood are all present, with an unusually creamy sweetness carrying the nose and chocolate and tobacco on the palate. Several tasters call this 1997 rounder and easier than the heavier 2018 — softer dirt, less weight. At 61.5% the alcohol still pushes through for most people.

#7078 24.07.2026 Relaxing with some late evening samples after a semi slow week at work. Live Streaming from Tomorrowland. Pretty decent Caroni with an OK price tag at release. Rounded profile with roasted wood, caramel, spice, diesel, rubber, polish, tar and chocolate.

A little too alcoholic for me, not quite as intense in taste, a little flat.

A deliciously creamy, complex Caroni. The typical notes come through well. The alcohol is a tad too prominent for me, though. Furthermore, you can clearly taste the coffee, chocolate, menthol with ginger, and tobacco. Otherwise, it is full of flavor with a long finish.

A dirty Caroni from 1997, the typical HTR profile is clearly recognizable in this bottling. But having already had several from this vintage in the glass, I must say that unfortunately this one can't keep up in my personal top group.

Nice representative from 1997, but it doesn't quite make it into my top group. All the typical HTR markers are here, but unfortunately the finish is a bit too alcoholic. But that's just nitpicking at a high level.

A basically good Caroni, but personally a bit too alcoholic for me. On the other hand, I really like the ever-present sweetness, which complements the dirty aromas excellently. Fruits are rather in the background.
