La Favorite Millésime 2014 BDF

Reviewers keep marveling at the same thing: eight years in ex-bourbon casks, and it still drinks like a great rhum blanc. Fresh sugarcane, lime zest and that peppery Martinique bite lead, with vanilla, dates and candied fruit filling in behind. Oily and round on the palate, the 47.1% barely shows. One taster found the earthy, zesty side a touch much.

Sweet and caramel nose with some citrus, wood, roasted hazelnuts and vegetal. The palate is full-bodied with noble wood, vanilla, caramel/pastry cream, some sweet fruit (dates), some bourbon notes, light spice (pepper) and some savoriness, all extremely rounded. The finish is delicate if lingering; it seems to have 40°. In the empty glass fermented and cane. The rating fluctuates between 9 and 9.1

Un bon rhum agricole, moins à mon goût. Nez sur le fruit confit / fruit sec. Très herbacé, petites notes de fût. Belle finale.

A great 2014 vintage! Incredible aromatic richness and intensity, a sweetness of dried fruit on the palate, spices and pastry notes! Superbly balanced, a real treat!

Avg Rating 8.1/10 over 220 Rums

La Favorite is the last working distillery inside Martinique's capital, Fort-de-France, and the island's longest continuously family-run house. Five generations of the Dormoy family have made rhum here on a 1906 steam engine that still turns the mill. It is agricole at its most unvarnished, and the community treasures its old La Flibuste vintages as some of the finest aged Martinique rum there is.
