Beenleigh Flensburg Rum Company Quokka Edition (Australian Small Batch Rum)

"Nice depth and fruitiness to it," one member sums up — and that's the honest read. This 7-year Beenleigh leans hard into its sherry casks: raisin, fig, dried fruit and a sweetness that surprises people by being less than expected. There's a glue/acetone note and roasty wood too. A few say the sherry buries the usual Australian profile; herbal, minty edges show up on the finish.

The community says
  • Rich sherry fruit

How does Beenleigh Flensburg Rum Company Quokka Edition (Australian Small Batch Rum) taste?

Aggregated from 60 community reviews.

Sherry-soaked Australian, raisin and herbs Most enjoy it as a fruity, sherry-forward sipper with raisin and herbal notes. The catch: heavy sherry masks the Beenleigh character, and a couple find the acetone and short finish limiting.

Fans of sherry-cask spirits and dried-fruit profiles

Admittedly: 50% of the purchase decision here was the label. I stand by it. Love it.The other 50% were curiosity. Australians are known to me so far as quite edgy - so I was interested in how the barrels affect here.In the nose comes from which also directly very much through. Raisins, fig, sherry and fruitiness full. Quite juicy fruit schnapps, glue.On the palate, a refreshingly different picture emerges. Less sweet than expected, but thicker than expected. While in the first half briefly toasty approaches, a touch of chocolate and wood sloshing up the whole changes quite quickly to broad fruitiness, light raisin and fig and juicy fruit. After that it moves towards pear brandy, more sherry and a hint of floral notes.Somewhere around here the finish sets in which definitely has spiciness but a really pleasant mouthfeel. Less alcohol, more approaches of menthol. For me a hit, I like it. Who stands on sherry stories can strike here without hesitation.

I was actually really looking forward to this bottling as an easy sipping Australian.... But the sherry finish and the overall very short maturation time are unfortunately rather disappointing. Wood, incense, toasty wood and lots of dried fruit and pear/raisin from the clearly too dominant sherry finish. Could also be much rounder.... I had hoped for more.

To mě baví. Bohužel tomu chybí vyzrálost a chtělo by to vyšší abv.

#4575 26-27.01.2024 Hanse Spirit This rum has a good price to quality. A nice Australian rum with a funny history Notes Light wood, faint smoke, fruit, light glue, marzipan. Palate Light wood, faint smoke, sweet, light glue, herbs, mint, faint marzipan. Finish Medium long, wood, dried fruit, light mint, marzipan.

On the nose, you can still recognize a bit of the Beenleigh profile. On the palate then much overlaid by the Oloroso and PX Cask Finish. But then very fruity and sweet, although less sweet than feared. Who likes it. There are clearly worse in the price segment.

The sherry finish definitely arrives on both the nose and the palate. However, it suits the Beenleigh very well, even if it pushes the usual flavors of the distillery into the background or takes them away completely

Aged rum

Avg Rating 8.0/10 over 16,000 Rums

Aged rum is where the spirit earns its complexity. In a tropical warehouse a barrel loses 6 to 10 percent of its contents to evaporation every year, which is why an 8-year Caribbean rum can taste deeper than a 20-year Scotch. This page gathers every rum on RumX that has spent real time in wood, with community ratings to separate the genuinely mature from the merely dark.
