Joh. Eggers Sohn & Co. Batavia Arrac Verschnitt
"The best nose of the bunch, then it loses you completely" sums up the split. The nose does the arrack thing — pear, vanilla, green pepper, a whiff of smoke. But this is a Verschnitt (arrack cut with neutral spirit), and the palate shows it: thin, alcoholic, metallic, edging into soap. One taster called the finish powdery, like old perfume.

How does Joh. Eggers Sohn & Co. Batavia Arrac Verschnitt taste?
Aggregated from 14 community reviews.
Nice arrack nose, thin neutral-spirit palate The verdict is harsh and near-unanimous — a promising nose collapses into neutral alcohol on the palate. Even the arrack-curious found little to keep here.

Arra(c)k 2.0 tasting by Artur. A spicy nose with pepper, smoke and tropical fruit, but also a buttery sweetness. The palate is diluted and the alcohol is present. Sour apple, wood, smoke and very few aromas. The finish is short, marked by neutral alcohol. This arrack has the best nose of the first 4, but the palate is very weak, very close to neutral alcohol.

Arrack 2.0 @Artur: Puh, wieder sehr alkoholisch, wenig Geschmack, muffig.

Faint pear on the nose, slightly creamy and buttery. A small hint of smoke lingers as well. Unfortunately, the taste reminds me of a powdery perfume past its prime. A shame, because the ferment notes are there, but long faded.
