Made for drinkers already hooked on Caroni's mechanic-shop side: tar, petrol and rubber up front, with oak, roasted notes and a whisper of dried fruit underneath. At 58% it carries plenty of alcohol, but the profile stays complex — anise, mint and faint coffee show up through a long, smoky finish. One taster puts it "close to Beast." Not a first Caroni.

#4853 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Round, complex, wood, light roasted, faint floral, spices, faint chocolate, light anise, faint tar, petrol, faint fruits. Palate Round, complex, wood, light roasted, faint smoke, light anise, light mint, petrol, light tar, faint coffee, light chocolate, faint fruits. Finish Long, wood, faint smoke, light mint, fruits, cinnamon, light citrus, faint tar. Also a very good release but again the price tag it way over the quality.

No closed distillery is chased harder than Caroni. The Trinidad distillery shut down around 2002 and not a drop has been made since, but its heavy, oily, almost diesel-like rum became a collector obsession, carried to the world by Velier. Every bottle now comes from a finite, shrinking stock, which is exactly why the prices keep climbing.
