Great, fruity Beenleigh, characterized by citrus, apple and raisin. An additional main component is found in floral and flowery notes. Ultimately complemented by caramel, chocolate and vanilla. In the mouth and finish, a little more hot spices, citrus and chocolate. A solid and thoroughly complex rum that convinces me.

Rum and chocolate tasting and Australia from Rum Club Switzerland and Australia Artur’s Advent calendar day 13. A nose of tropical fruits (banana, pineapple), citrus, varnished wood, and sweetness (pastries). A floral note completes this beautiful nose. The palate has a fairly soft, spicy attack, with cedar, fruits, and the floral side emerging later. The finish is medium, focused on fruits and marked wood throughout the finish. In the empty glass, fruits and varnished wood in harmony. A beautiful rum, balanced. It lacks a bit of depth, but it is very well made and enjoyable to drink.

The best of the 3 Velier Beenleighs for me, but still not a good rum. The nose hints at yellow fruit or dried fruit. Then the watery, alcoholic base note on the palate. Perhaps the freshly opened bottles are also to blame. Will definitely get a 2nd and 3rd chance.

A powerful and spicy rum where ginger, pomegranate and fig dominate. The aftertaste is long with flavors of cherry, apricot and almond as well as licorice 😋

I like it better on the second tasting. Nice citrus and orange notes on the nose, coupled with vanilla and spice. Alcohol well integrated. The same aromas on the palate. Nice attack, then unfortunately flattens out quickly.

2015 / 2013 / 2006 side-by-side from the freshly opened bottles. While I have to admit, that Australia isn’t my favorite origin, the both younger bottlings really aren’t my cup of tea. Rather sharp and alcohol forwards. Citrus, apples, pear are dominating. Same is true for the 2006. Here the overall balance is much better, however. While the 2006 is enjoyable, I’m no fan of the younger one. That is from the open bottle. As with past experience in this side-by-side, the Bennleighs improve significantly after a couple of weeks in the opened bottle. 2013 and 2006 show much more rich fruits and a more balanced profile with significant less sting. Easily +0.5 points after some oxidation. The 2015 just remains underwhelming. Better than before but still sharp and not really pleasant imho.

Another example of a bottle that needs air to really grow to its fullest potential. Upon opening I did not think much of it, and if scored then it would have barely broken the 7 threshold. Now at 2/3s with about two months of air in it; a very different experience. Fruity, flowery and -above all- dry nose. With top notes of bitter orange, roasted nuts and wet clay it opens dry and mineral. A display of apples and peaches follows up into a malty, caramelised backbone. Geranium flowers i.a. introduce a lovely complexity. In the mouth a more concentrated version of the nose. Fruits and flowers are dialed down a bit in favor of wood, malt and caramel. Less dry than the nose suggested, but way more spicy with peppers and a hint of coriander. The finish is short and sweet, lacking intricacy and thus a little incomplete for my taste.

A pretty Australian rum with many hidden and unsuspected sides. The nose is lined with violets, perfuming the nostrils with their freshness. Citrus (orange) and dried fruit (grape) add a tonic touch, while toasty wood, sweet spices (vanilla), molasses, honey and caramel focus on gluttony and opulence. A very pleasant, fragrant rum. The palate is lively and full-bodied. Flowers are the first to appear on the palate, followed by spices (pepper, vanilla), wood and caramel notes. Fruit follows in a mixture of tropical fruit marmalade, citrus and dried fruit. A hint of dark chocolate adds roundness and finesse. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is very long, with a great aromatic palette and complexity. First comes orange zest, then spices, wood, roasted notes, dark chocolate and camphor take over. Finally, the violet returns with its lovely veil that perfumes the finish. A lovely Beenleigh, delicate, full-bodied and very good value for money.

Palate Fresh, light oily, medium intense, light wood, cinnamon, light banana, orange, light berries. Finish Medium long, light wood, vanilla, light caramel, light cinnamon, light ginger. Empty glass Ginger, berries, caramel, faint leather, light mint.

Tasted first at the urban rum cruise! Very delicious, powerful, fruity but also spicy! You get here a nice impressions of the power of australia! I liked the orange and dark chocolate notes, reminds me on those well known cookies😅😜 You’ll get a lot for you money.

Artur's Australia Advent Calendar 2025 door 14. Again a fairly fruity Beenleigh, also vanilla again, with some wood on the nose. On the palate I find it quite roasted, especially roasted nuts here.

A lovely discovery, made during a sample tasting. The nose is very flattering, sweet with a hint of alcohol and spice. On the palate, there's a certain continuity with yellow fruit. At first I thought green banana, which evolves into peach/pear. A little custard and spicy touches. The alcohol is well integrated.

Poured from a bottle that's been open for ~1.5 years, and is mostly full. This is a fun rum. Very floral Beenleigh, with orchard fruits and oranges playing in the background. Noticable oak presence as well, incorporates everything well enough. Drinks a bit hot and sharp though. Edit: 21/8/2026 - Adjusted score from 8.2 to 8.0

Online tasting with Rum Explorer, Matt Pietrek and Mitch Wilson tonight! Coming back to this Beenleigh after a long time. It's quite as I remembered it, nice but nothing exceptional. It reminds me slightly of the style of some Barbados or even Privateer, but leans more towards the citrus and a honey-like sweetness.

Good drink. Not the best Beenleigh bottled by Velier but still an interesting product. Suitable for both finer palates and those who are getting into more important rums. I really enjoyed the rich nose with hints of orange.

My 2nd Beenleigh and again I associate this with Bourbon. Rather sweet and fruity on the nose, with spice gradually taking over on the palate, first joined by sweetness bit getting drier and woody. A nice drink for certain. Nose: Dominated by orange, after pouring, and after aeriation also by peach and apricot. Then quite new wood, syrup and caramel. Less present are vanilla, and spice (nutmeg), and varnish. Taste: full-bodied and assertive, so I use some water. Spicy and sweet. Ginger, pepper, nutmeg. Syrup, dark sugar, caramel. Cherry, apricot, and quite some wood. Finish: long, now mainly spicy and leas sweet, with the wood picking up. Less on fruit now.

A beautiful Beenleigh which, at 10 years old, has a decent degree of maturity. Of course, there are again many yellow fruits such as quinces and pears as well as honey, but there is also no lack of spices and oak, including a slight eucalyptus-menthol vapor and a thin layer of varnish.

Pleasant raisin and honey nose with a fruity nose. On the palate nicely balanced raisin with vanilla and honey. Nice caramel on the finish. Very nice drop that is pleasant to drink... Delicious. Slightly adjusted upwards in the night tasting.

Cross-tasting of the three Velier bottlings (06, 13, 15) Initially a little restrained on the nose, but then more intense on the palate, with a lot of citrus aroma and floral notes. Generally very fresh, but with a slightly bitter finish. Exciting notes of orange, grapefruit and honey. For me, this evening's bottling was in the middle of the class.

I always love coming back to the "different" fruitiness of Beenleigh. The green apple reminds me directly of those sour apple rings from my childhood. The taste is drier than expected with quite a bit of sharpness.

Good beenleigh. Overall, however, a little too metallic for me. Somewhat one-dimensional and not quite as complex as I am otherwise accustomed to from beenleigh. The remaining velier beenleighs please me much better. Would not be a rum of which I would voluntarily pour me a 2nd sip....

My first Australian rum, the nose is slightly woody, the scents are subtle. On the palate tropical fruit and citrus notes reveal themselves. The 59° are well present. It's a decent rum.

Tasting no. 3 of the advent calendar.. Nice discovery. Pretty profile, beautiful notes of yellow fruits, vanilla, chocolate, soft woodiness, a bit of spices… Honestly, it's well made. Needs a long aeration to fully enjoy the aromas.

A pretty nice Beenleigh. I always get a huge pear/apple/citrus note with Beenleigh, both on the nose as on the palate. Compared to the 2015, this one is very similar but I like the extra age. Curious to compare it to the older 2006 release though.

With the quite diverse reviews, I'm curious. Beautiful bright color, looks good. First nose impression fruity and floral. Citrus note, orange, fresh and floral fragrant. Also some honey sweetness. All very tasty and inviting. On the palate then more spicy notes, wood, but also here the orange note. A bit sharp and slightly burning. The medium-long finish on the woody/spicy side with a hint of bitterness. After some time in the glass - the nose impression becomes even more diverse, now caramel notes come and the orange/lemon comes only afterwards. That's really good. On the palate, the sharpness bothers me, which is still present and also noticeable in the finish. Overall, I find the stuff quite good. Probably not everybody's darling, but nothing that ends up only in a mixer with me.

A solid Beenleigh, with all the markers of post-pombe era, especially the agrumes strong note that in my opinion is the main beenleigh trait. Still its profile gets me bored easily. It's not usual for me to have a second sip of this one.

Sweet on the nose, reminiscent of vanilla crescent cookies. Light fruity and woody notes. Taste-wise rather dry, spicy. Noticeable mint. Nutty. The sweetness is in the background. Alcohol not very well integrated. Blind buy and pleasantly surprised.

Beenleigh 2013 – 59% Heading to Australia with a historic distillery (1884 👀). Double distillation (column + copper still) and 10 years under tropical climate in ex-bourbon. 👉 Profile: fruits, spices, then a nice floral touch 👉 Balance: clean, pleasant, easy to drink 💭 Verdict: a well-built rum, but lacking a bit of complexity to really leave an impression. Nice… but nothing more.

Neck pour, quite restrained, spirity, hot. After an hour in the glass, rich fruity aromas start to appear, and I begin to see the potential🤔🤔…tbcont’d… gonna need some time with this one. With multiple tastings and aniseedy, fresh minty side is very evident and a subtle, green vegetal side, like a slightly bitter cucumber. Upon finishing the bottle a year later I can sum it up as: Ripe pineapple on toast, with a blast of licorice in the mouth, and a woody baking spice finish.

Nice Beenleigh that hits the typical Beenleigh notes of fruits and honey for me. It seems a bit low on the pear and is perhaps not very intense. This could be due to the 10 years of aging which is the oldest Beenleigh I have tasted to date. Not very complex but definitely tasty. It finishes with a wonderful thick honey-like feel.

Light, floral-fruity rum with a distinct aroma of apples, pears, orange blossoms, and dried herbs, with a touch of ripe and candied fruits and fresh honey. On the palate, sharp, alcoholic, with yellow fruits, dried herbs, and orange peel. Medium-long finish, spicy, alcoholic, warming with a fruit-honey sweetness that softens the edges. Light rum, quite interesting, with a tropical or oriental note, unfortunately quite alcoholic and unruly.

A nose dominated by pear, then comes apple, a bit of vanilla and spices, makes you want to try it. On the palate, the attack is rather lively, you can feel the relative youth of the juice. Always that ripe pear, you almost feel the little grainy side of the fruit. The apple, the vanilla are still present, accompanied by chili. Finish is relatively short. I really like this pear side, but the alcohol could be better integrated.

This is so much nicer than the Transcontinental Rum Lines 2013. A very fruity nose, way less alcohol heat, despite the increased abv, and just a much nicer finish. Still enjoy it in the Bourbon trail glass.

Oh man this is a well made rum. Big, bold kicks you in the butt in a good way with the higher ABV and fullness. It’s almost a cross between Spanish and Jamaican. Flavorful but not too big and balanced with the aging. Long pleasant finish.

Could have fooled me as a bourbon on the nose. It hits the palate with impact and a sweet first impression. To me spices are most dominant with fruits like pear and apple playing second fiddle. However no notes stand out particularly to me. And while what you get tastes good, it is not a rum that will allow you to peel off layer after layer.

Caramel and vanilla smell. Maybe some cinnamon. Some other spice notes come in here in taste, maybe thyme, pepper. Potpourri. Pretty complex mouth feel even if the initial smell isn't too impressive. Golden pour. Had as part of flight at Casta's.
