#6843 25.05.2026 Running a few samples after a 10 km walk with my wife. Listening to some nice Trance on Spotify while my wife fell asleep during her stretching exercises. Pretty decent PM with an OK price tag in my mind. Intense with nice roasted wood, chocolate, fruits, leather, caramel and light tannins.

BOTTLE KILL OF THE WEEKEND: Elizabeth Yard Port Mourant 2011 – 49.8% Elizabeth who? Elizabeth Yard is the young rum range from the Scottish distillery Holyrood. A name that refers to the old historic depot where the British Royal Navy stored its precious supply... of rum! Today, it's the Elizabeth Yard casks that find their place there. The range comes in 4 styles: 🥃 Without finish – the rum as it comes out of the original producer's cask 🍷 Ex-Sherry – Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso, Palo Cortado... 🍷 Ex-Red Wine 🪵 Ungrogged – a naval term referring to a new American oak cask And this Port Mourant then? We're talking here about a Port Mourant distilled in Guyana in 2011, in the legendary double pot still of Port Mourant. A 10-year-old rum, with 5 years of tropical aging, bottled in only 222 copies at 49.8%. And to finish: 75 days of finishing in a Palo Cortado Sherry cask. On the nose and palate, we find a rather intense profile with wood, chocolate, caramel, and fruits, accompanied by light tannins. The finish is well present but remains controlled and never completely takes over. To be honest, I prefer the heavier, fattier, more "traditional" PMs, with that typical power and depth I expect from a Port Mourant. This one is more accessible and more marked by its cask finish. Verdict: a perfectly decent Port Mourant, with an interesting quality/price ratio around €90 for 10 years of age. Not a favorite for me, but a bottle that clearly deserves its place in a tasting!

10/10/2025: S9T1 (special casks tasting) @ TasTToe. This is a Port Mourant aged for 10 years (5y tropical) with a finish of Palo Cortado sherry casks. The finish is noticeable but not overwhelming. A good rum, but I prefer an older, darker, heavier PM.

Very good Sherry cask integration with the spirit - like Whisky, a good example of a finish or maturation is where you can taste both the cask influence alongside the distillate and its DNA and this is a good example of that 8/10
