Most tasters were pleasantly surprised a column-still Philippine rum could taste this good, though a couple found it a bit plain. The bourbon barrel brings vanilla, caramel and a nutty, chocolatey edge, with coconut and tropical fruit underneath. One member likened it to a Bounty bar; another called it a "wilder cousin from Jamaica." Cask strength, so there's real heat.

The nose is really promising. A pleasant sweetness, caramel, spices, vanilla, roasted nuts, chocolate. Blind I would probably have guessed FS. On the palate everything announced by the nose is found again. Probably by far the best I've had from the Philippines in the glass :D

#4966 30.08.2024-01.09.2024 Had a great time both before and after the event. Friday was opening party on a boat with Dirk and Saturday and Sunday meeting up with new and old friends Nose Light wood, sweet, fruits, light nutts, light caramel, faint chocolate, faint coffee. Palate Light wood, sweet, faint roasted, fruits, faint pineapple, medium spicy, light dry, faint caramel, faint coffee. Finish Medium long, light wood, light coffee, faint citrus, light chocolate, faint caramel, sweet.

A sample from the 13th GRF, tried on the ICE somewhere between Berlin and Hamburg, must be! Nose: intense and powerful, thanks to the cask strength. Spicy, woody and fruity with sweet and sour gooseberry and lemon as well as papaya and coconut. Fragrant cherry wood with plenty of tobacco and leather. Clear bourbon influence. Matching vanilla, caramel and a little nutmeg. It also has a slightly chocolaty note. Very pleasing, full and pleasant. Quite good. 8.5 Palate: warm and creamy, spicy and fruity with a slight caramel sweetness. Has something of brioche. Also tropical fruit with coconut, bacon-nutty with tonka bean. Intense bourbon and tobacco with a vanilla aroma. Really tasty here too. Something good from the Philippines 😉. 8,3

Rum from the Philippines. I repeat: RUM! It's nice to see that other distilleries there can also produce decent rums. The taste is somewhere between Belize and Barbados, nicely caramelized, slightly sweet and fruity, but also with plenty of power. The alcohol could be a little better integrated, but otherwise a nice drop!

Correct but not crazy. It reminds me of a Bounty (the chocolate and coconut bar). So theoretically very indulgent and accessible aromas. It would have been interesting to see if a bit diluted or refined would make it really easy.

Nose: caramel, woody, vanilla, apricot-peachy Palate: slightly sharp, slightly alcoholic, consistent with the nose - caramel, vanilla, slightly cinnamon Finish: medium length, pleasant, woody, caramel, slightly alcoholic Filipino Luisita after bourbon is very decent. The profile reminds me of a mix between Foursquare and Port Mourant. Nose and palate are impeccable, the finish falls a bit short due to the prominent alcohol but despite that, it's a pretty good rum.

Even better than the PX, the bourbon barrel complements the funky & fruity distillate. Wouldn’t have expected this from the Philippines, feels like a wilder cousin from Jamaica. Keen to see this with some additional aging and better casks!
