Glue, rubber, nail polish and overripe pineapple — this young Savanna Grand Arôme smells like a spilled-beer fermentation tank and tastes even wilder. Several tasters got meaty, "compost" and rubber-glove notes they couldn't get past; the fans call it super estery, funky and layered. Only three years old, so it's short and hot where an older GA would stretch out. Cask strength at 59.1%.

Great Savanna, like it a lot, very similar to the unaged 57% HERR. Ester is recognizable here, but also lots of other things like brine, overripe fruit, olive, rubber, glue, and solvents.

This rum is really interesting, but I'm not sure how to rate it yet, never had such a flavor in the glass. It is a mixture of initially pure nail polish remover (ester galore), but without a fruity component, and then later wet wood, the Virgin Oak has done a great job. A crass stuff, it seems somehow "sick" to me, in the sense of absolutely wacky, extreme. Anyone who blindly tastes a Savanna out here can only be congratulated. Let's see what the others say, who get these days samples from me. 😉 Update 2023-08-04: At the 2nd tasting, unfortunately, completely failed. The co-tasting whisky drinker (advanced) just said "manure!" - and I have to agree with him now, unfortunately. 😳 Too bad, with this experimental rum I could not pull him from the whisky to the rum side. But I'm still waiting for the reviews of those who got a sample (at a fortunately bearable price) of this (failed?) experiment. I'm curious!

The first impression was unfortunately better than the retasting - I really liked this mix of woodiness and esters at first, now every time I take a sip I have the unpleasant taste of rubber gloves with lots of fruit and vanilla in my mouth, unfortunately not my cup of tea.

You rarely see such widely differing ratings. After 45 minutes of breathing, I could already smell the typical Grand Arôme markers and taste them on the palate as well. Although the ester, pineapple, and strawberry aromas, alongside a bit of nail polish, are quite alone, I don't consider it that bad.

For me, a mixture of Grand Arome and Herr. Lots of gummy bears, esters, strawberry, a little wood, perhaps a little snappy, a little plastic.

Tasted from the picture, really very intense on the nose with lots of esters and fruit. On the palate it is strongly spicy and intense with a hint of sweetness. This comes through lightly in the long finish. Otherwise rather dry.

I‘m sitting like the meme of John Travolta and looking for the Savanna GA flavours… Double Checking the label doesn‘t help🫣 The nose is OK, but what‘s going on the palate is just disgusting. The finish last long with a bitter taste of sour cherries 🤣Some extra points, because I like sour cherries 😁 BTW My GF ask, what‘s smells like compost in here 🤦🏻♂️

Ok, this is rum that is in "love it or hate it" category. You have to have a open mind for this and interest for different flavours. On the nose: I get that mainly overripe/ester without any fruits. Nail polish. Woody. Not intense. Taste: Quite a wierd chemical mix of fermentation?, rubbery and glue. Hint of overripe pineapple that brings sweetness to the mix. Not intense. Quite balanced in its own world. Finish: Medium finish. I get yeast, rubber. Quite dry finish Interesting tasting experience. I would say that this rum tastes like fermentation process.

Very interesting profile, a bit meaty on the nose behind the fruit, glue and everything else. I understand why the rum is so controversial, but I would take a bottle of it.

Super estery overripe yeasty fruit in smell. Grand arome AF. As if you spilled beer and you didn't clean it for a day. In taste: super chemically. Rubber/glue. Plastic. Wow. Something else. Very funky but interesting. Fermented fruits. Weird but sort of likable too. This is definitely one for the rum nerds among us.

I can't do anything with it. I have a taste on the palate as if they had added a few dead animals during fermentation . . In addition to rotten and musty, somehow something carrion-like! At the very end, a little strawberry wine gum comes through, but that can't really save the rum.

All the markers of GA savanna are there on the nose: brine, capers, ketchup, slightly rotten fruit and acidity. Short on the palate, the alcohol heats up a little. It's not bad, and for 70 euros it's certainly worth the price now, but it's still a little young...

The nose starts off with a lot of glue, fermented red fruit, vanilla, tobacco, chemical notes, but then more and more repulsive notes such as butcher's meat or offal (rumen) appear. The first impression on the palate is also similar, in the direction of rotten meat. A little better at the end, with vanilla and tobacco, but the unpleasant notes unfortunately remain. I'm glad it was only a sample. How SBS was able to select this cask remains a mystery to me, or was this supposed to be a 'Savanna beast' 🤷♂️

So I'm not sure whether I think it's good or bad. It's definitely something I've never had in a glass before. I feel the same way about Beast#3. But I don't think I'm very enthusiastic about it.

Nothing fits together here. The nosing still gives hope, but then the blow comes. The alcohol is poorly integrated, fizzy, the fruit is completely drowned out...I drink the rest with cola (almost a belediging for the cola)
