Well-liked but not a rum anyone here calls unforgettable. Twelve years in bourbon casks then Ferrand cognac finishing gives it vanilla, nutmeg, red fruits and a clear cognac note over dry oak. At 46.9% the alcohol sits well integrated and the finish runs long. One taster found it drier on the palate than the sweet nose promises; another liked it "very good" but no more.

Weekend bottlekill: Plantation WIRD 2005 An exclusive from Château de Bonbonnet, found during the Plantation Addict weekend and opened for the Plantation lineup... already two years ago! From the West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD), distilled in 2005 from molasses (pot & column still), this rum experienced: 12 years in bourbon barrels under the Barbados sun 4 years in Ferrand barrels in France 3 months finishing in Ferrand “Sélection des Anges” barrels Bottled at 46.9%, with an estimated sugar content between 5 and 15 g/L. Nose: delicate, with nutmeg, vanilla, grape, citrus, and coconut, evolving towards tobacco and wild berries. Palate: round, mixing pineapple, almond, and hazelnut, before sliding into more pronounced spices like pepper and dried banana. A very smooth rum (thanks to the additives), pleasant but not unforgettable... It won’t be missed much in my bar. Rest in peace.
